Hey, firts of all I’d like to say I’m not from any English speaking country and that’s why I’m not exaclty sure what word ‘Intangible’ means? The dictionary definition says:

Incapable of being perveived by the senses, especially the sense of touch. 

Pretty understandable I guess, however, the question is how this definition translates to Basketball court?  So being intangible means that the Player is doing all the little things in defence and offence which does not translate to any statistics (like good defence, extra passes, leadership, good court positioning, forcing bad decisions etc.)? 

Please answer me if this is right theory. 

With all that said I’m wondering what’s your examples of best intangible players in today’s NBA, and best intangible Players in NBA history? Here are my Picks:

Current NBA:

Duncan, MKG, Joe Crawder, Paul Milsap, Marc Gasol

NBA History:

Rodman, Duncan, Robert Horry, Bill Russell

I know that almost all of mentioned company are excellent defenders so I kindly ask you to point if my understanding is correct.

This usually means you cause turnovers, dive for loose balls.  Thing like that.  It’s easier to keep track of stats like assists and points, but you can also set good picks, or be in good position, that’s not something easily kept track of, but still contributes to winning.  Good question.

My perception of this would be unsung guys on successful teams who may not do the spectacular things but they do a lot of donkey work for the team and may be noted for their defensive play in particular. Maybe not a totally elite defensive player who is all defence team, year in year out and thus is regarded as a star.

Someone like former NBA player Shane Battier was always mentioned as having great intangibles.

Also a player who when they move on, the team notices a real loss even if they have been replaced by a statistically more successful player.

They are the sort of player a superstar like LBJ would love to have on their roster etc.

 Intangible in a basketball context = unquantifiable/unmeasurable. So whilst all the thinga you’ve said are correct, it can go further – are they a good teammate? What’s their work ethic like? How much do they want to win? How much do they want to improve? How good is their professionalism? And so on

 For me is how much basketball iq, feel and awareness you having and the ability to transelet it into your game in a positive way and in a way of hiding or covering your own weaknesses… Best exemple is draymond green, how he play so intuitive, how he is the first to figure out situation on the court, how he read things on the court, how he have great sense to take adventge on every broken play, his killer instinct to go after players he feel they losing confident defensively or offensively…
