I’m going to get negged like crazy for this but, (based on nba draft game &westbrooks play lately), right now would you really rather have Kidd play with Durant than Westbrook?

Westbrook is better indiidually, and as a team player because of how great he is.

Don’t get me wrong, i voted for Kidd too, but the way westbrook has been playing (if he maintains this), i think he IS better than kidd, meaning he is a top 2-3 ppg ever. Stats arent everyhting, but look at what Wesbrook is doing. I’m old  enopugh to have watched kidd (most people are), and i would rather build a team around this westbrook or have westbrook and durant than kidd and durant anyday.

( i know kidd has maintaiend his greatness longer, but other than this… westbrook is simply better than kidd ever was, right now).

Don’t know what I said wrong… Just asking for his opinion on Curry because he thinks Russ is headed for top 3 all time at the PG position, which is very high praise. Yet Westbrook isn’t even considered the best point guard in the NBA right now. I guess some of you guys are tired of hearing about Curry, but I think its a very relevant question

Westbrook is an elite scoring PG whilst Kidd was one of the greatest creative PGs ever so although they play same position their game is totally different.

Kidd and KD would have been a great combo but would have needed a stretch 4 or a 5 with mid range to help spread the floor.

Well. They are very different players. Kidd was the quintessential pass first pg. His court vision and pure pg skills were as good as any player of his generation and his size and defensive instincts allowed him to defend multiple positions. He also had an uncanny ability to grab defensive boards. He was bigger than Westbrook but not nearly as athletic or as much of a scoring threat.

Westbrook is the more athletic of the two by far. He is more prone to taking ill-advised shots or making the occasional bad turnover but thats what you live with due to the relentless and energy which he plays the game. I don’t think there has ever been a player like him that is capable of doing the things he can do at that size. While Westbrook will never be Jason Kidd, he has gone a long way toward improving his overall playmaking and pg skills in the past few years. You have to remember that the guy never really played pg prior to being in the NBA.

If you asked this question a few years ago I would have went with Kidd in his prime no doubt. I thought the thunder were a team that relief too heavily on isolation and Westbrook was often a major part of the problem. The offense got stagnant at the end of games and too often the best pure scorer in the league (Durant) seemed to just be reduced to a spectator. Westbrook didn’t seem like a player that really elevated his teammates in a way that Kidd would and that was what I thought the thunder needed.

However, if I had to answer the same question now I’m sticking with Westbrook. Sure, some of the same concerns about ball dominance exist, but I can really see him getting the most out of his teammates now in a way he didn’t before. The relentless he plays with is just infectious and I don’t think you could replace him with any other player and come close to duplicating it. While you could argue about who their best player is, I think Westbrook is no doubt the unquestioned leader and heart and soul of this team. While they would still be a very good team with Kidd, I think they wouldn’t have as high of an overall ceiling.

I see Curry right there with wetsbrook line and line. Magic is obviosuly the best simply be leadership.

Then Isiah and Stockton, Curry and Westbrook are all very close. I think it all depends on durability right now, time will tell.

Kidd is my favourite PG of all time, and I’m a Thunder fan so obviously I love Westbrook as well. So the bias is split fairly evenly for me.

That being said, I can’t help but wonder how KD would play alongside a true point like Kidd. It would elevate his game possibly to the point of making Westbrook irrelevant.

But I like option 3 better:
    Kidd @ Point & Westbrook @ SG

    One can dream.
