Woj – Russell Westbrook has agreed to a 5yr/$205 Million extension with OKC.

This has been as great of an offseason as OKC could ask for following KD walking away last summer. With Russ and Adams locked in, Melo likely sticks around for his option year. The question is if they can convince PG this is the team he has the best shot at winning with.

Side question, is Sam Presti the best GM in Basketball? I say he’s definitely top 3 with Myers and Morey.

Huge contract. Presti drafted those guys but he or the OKC ownership were too scared to sign Harden and put the team into luxury tax.  Its like buying a porsche but never driving it off the lot.

Knowing Westbrook, this wasn’t a coincidence at all. Haha

Westbrook savage for signing on Kd’s birhtday. Thunder will be relevant in contention for the next 5 years. Could entice Paul George to stay in OKC if they do well this season. Bad for the Laker fans who thought Westbook and George were coming in free agency.

Great news for both sides – Westbrook MVP gets the sort of mega deal his body of work deserves and the Thunder keep hold of their best player for another 6 potential seasons.

It gives them a chance to potentially keep PG13 and it will sure keep Melo interested if he knows he can play alongside Westbrook for the next two seasons if he wants to.

How they could keep PG13 next season if Melo opted in, I’m not sure. The perfext scenario would be Melo committed for longer but for less allowing some cap space to make an offer to PG13.

How many GM’s have had 30 for 30 specials?  Put Sam Presti down for one no matter how this thing ultimately turns out…

The guy has basically been swinging for the fences for a decade.

Won’t lie, as a Thunder fan I didn’t expect this. I thought he was going to drag it out all season long and give us anxiety that he would leave for nothing like Durant.

But since it happened on Durant’s birthday it all makes sense why he waited this long to announce it. That was 100% intentional and just another subtle jab that Westbrook has mastered.

Unless there’s major chemistry issues I think this significantly helps our chances of resigning PG. Lakers may be on the rise (albeit slowly) but the Thunder are the clear-cut better team of the two, and that was even before Melo joined.

PG may have always been an alpha dog, but he doesn’t seem to have the alpha personality, I think he will have no problem at all deferring to Westbrook & Melo when necessary. He will still get his points just maybe a few less. So the only wildcard is Melo, but honestly at this point in his career I think he’s tired of hearing all the jokes about being a superstar that will never have a chip. I think his dedication to win will help him be able to coexist with Russ & PG.

Time will tell of course, and it will no doubt be a bumpy ride at first as they get used to eachother. But if they can get comfortable by mid season then they are a serious threat that even the Warriors should be having nightmares about.

Love it. Westbrook looks like a hero for staying with the Thunder even though they gave him 200mil+ to stay. The fact that he waited until KDs birthday makes it hilarious. So glad Westbrook committed to the Thunder after they showed him they were committed to winning after bringing in Melo + PG. Feels like a solid chance PG stays there as well if everything goes right.
