This is the war room for the Boston Celtics for the upcoming nbadraft.net User Mock Draft. Here we can discuss our potential draftees. I’ll start the discussion by talking about our current roster, potential roster moves, and prospects I like and dislike.

Players under contract for 12/13 season:

    PG-Rajon Rondo

    PG/SG-Avery Bradley

    SF-Paul Pierce

    PF-Jajuan Johnson

    C-Greg Stiemsma

As for Boston players that are about to free agents, I think there’s a high possibility Kevin Garnett returns, a decent chance they’ll resign 1 of the two PFs- Brandon Bass and Jeff Green, a decent chance they’ll resign one of the two backup swingmen-Mickael Pietrus and Marquis Daniels, and a small chance Ray Allen re-signs.

So with that being said the Celtics team needs (not taking other free agencts into acount) in my opinion are a sharp shooting 2 guard, a back to the basket PF or C, or an athletic swingman that can take some minutes off of Paul Pierce.

    Guys I like at 21/22

-High upside guys that might fall-Whether it is Terrence Jones or PJ III the Celtics can take a chance on these guys. Let them sit for a year or two, and when it’s time to pass on the torch, hopefully these guys will have matured enough to be ready to play.

-Jared Sullinger-If he falls, I’d like to jump on him. There isn’t a really consistent low post, back to the basket threat even if Kevin Garnett returns (he faces up more these days). Sullinger is very refined offensively and is ready to make an impact at the NBA level immediately.

-Moe Harkless-He would be a nice backup to Paul Pierce, and provide some stability as a backup wing. Harkless is very athletic, a solid defender, and brings a lot of energy on both sides of the ball. Sitting behind Paul Pierce for a few years would be great for his development because he needs more time to refine his offensive skills.

    Guys I don’t like at 21/22

-Fab Melo-He’s academic issues, weight issues, and he doesn’t seem like he’s worth the risk. At best, he’s a good defender and mediocre offensively, which sounds a lot like Greg Stiemsma to me.

-Quincy Miller-If the Celtics are going to draft a high upside backup SF, then I’d much prefer Moe Harkless. Quincy Miller doesn’t have an NBA body or NBA skills. He isn’t very good at one particular area, and I’m not sure if he’ll ever the way develop the way some people think he will.

Guys I’m indifferent about at 21/22

-Jeff Taylor-More NBA ready than Harkless, but has less upside.

-John Jenkins or Doron Lamb-Great shooters, but may be a bit of a reach.

-Andrew Nicholson-I prefer Sully a little more.

At 51, I’d go with BPA.

    What do you guys think?

If I’m Boston I target the 3, 4, or 5 position with their picks.

I feel Nicholson is a great fit with the C’s. He has a well balanced offensive game and has improved every year in college. Quincy Miller and Melo are more of projects but they would adress needs and help them build for the future. Obviously best case scenario is a highly talented forward like Jones(2x) and/or Sullinger falls.

Bottom Line the C’s need talent at the forward positions and they are in  a great position to get some in this draft.

of course it would be great if sullinger falls to them, but with the news about his injury?, or maybe take a gamble and pick sullinger and sign Green and garnett, and playing sullinger limited minutes, around 20mins per game, instant offense off the bench,

Doron lamb would also be great, a knock down shooter ala ray allen,

So say one of PJ III, Terrence Jones, or Jared Sullinger falls to the us at 21. Who should we pick at 22? Doron Lamb if available?

Royce White got a promise from the Celtics at 21. He’s a combo forward so if he’s not picked before then he’ll be our pick at 21. Who do you guys think 22 should be now? I still think if Jared Sullinger is available we should get him because he’s a nice back to he basket center to compliment Kevin Garnett. Or maybe Doron Lamb. Those are probably my top two choices at 22. Thoughts?

I’m leaning towards taking towards Royce White since he’s already been promised according to Cad Ford. Royce White’s a special talent that can play either forward positions and will probably be the best ball handler and facilitator when Rondo’s not in the game. I’m leaning towards Sullinger and Nicholson at 22 since KG might be retiring and even if he does return it will likely be for only a year or two. Who do you guys prefer between Nicholson and Sullinger?

The C’s don’t need Doron Lamb. They have a better player in Avery Bradley. Also, Lamb is a one dimensional player, second round material. If you want a shooter, you’d better take John Jenkins.

Sullinger? I don’t think he will slide that far down the draft board. Anyway, Kris Humphries is an unrestricted free agent…

White and Sullinger would be my top two. A sharp shooter would be great, but go for the best guys available regardless.

If PJ III or Terrence Jones are still there, by all means…
I’m not sure they will be.

    Harkless is probably fine too.

I’d love to see James on the Board at 51. My guess is he gets picked up earlier in this draft than he will next Thursday though.

Like I said earlier I’d like to go BPA available at 51. If there’s a good shooter like Kim English or an NBA ready big like Bernard James or Henry Sims I’d be all over that.

I’d love to see Robbie Hummel picked up at 51.  Reassemble the Baby Boilers.

I’m sold on Royce White.  Perfect organization for him.  I get the feeling he won’t be hanging around at 21 though.
