I am not saying Aminu will be a great player, it depends on a lot of different factors, such as team, role, development, training, etc… but I will say he is a better talent than what he showed both seasons at Wake. He disappears a lot, particularly in big games, I think that with the right coaching and development he may be able to overcome that….although that is really more of a killer instinct that some have and some dont. The point I want to make is, Wake was a terrible team considering the talent they had. They were not well coached as evidence of Gaudio being fired just after 2 seasons. Smith was a demon with the ball and a clutch player. McFarland was a good rebounder and defender. Stewart and Harris were very good contributing freshmen and Williams was an excellent defender and a good scorer when needed. The main problem I had with Wake though was the lack of development and usage of Walker and Woods, two 5-star recruits in 2008. These are 2 extremely athletic big men who can block shots and rebound. If it wasnt for Woods, Wake wouldve lost to Texas no doubt about it in the tourney. On this board last year, if I am not mistaken, going into this years draft, Woods was rated as a lottery pick. Also days before signing with Wake, Walker was offered a scholarship to UNC. This doesnt take away the fact that there were some glaring weaknesses in Aminu’s game but he is athletic, can handle, and its a beast on the offensive glass despite not being very big. Had Gaudio been able to use the talent he had, Wake wouldve been a MUCH better team, the fact that they struggled a lot is the main reason that Aminu’s stock is not as high as it was the year before, but in workouts, he could jump right back up to where he probably should be anyway.
