    1. Best PG right now? Westbrook. I can’t believe I’m saying this but he impresses me more and more.

    2. Best PG in 5 years? Irving.

    3. Most underrated? Conley. Tough one but he’s surprised me since college and I like his game.

    4. Overrated? Jennings. I wanted to say Lin but I cant stand how Jennings. It might be out of necessity but he’s so inefficient.

    5. Best Young PG (2 yrs or less exp. in league)? Irving

    6. Best Rookie PG? Lillard.

    7. Most athletic? Westbrook. Easy one with the Rose injury.

    8. Most skilled? Nash. He’s dropped off but a guy that unathletic shouldnt be able to do what he does.

    9. Best leader? Paul.

    10. Best All Time? Magic Johnson.

    1. Best PG right now? With D Rose hurt, then I am going with Chris Paul (great all-around too).

    2. Best PG in 5 years? Derrick Rose (I think he expands his play making skill set).

    3. Most underrated? Ty Lawson. Mike Conley is second, but he is almost so underrated he is overrated by now.

    4. Overrated? John Wall

    5. Best Young PG (2 yrs or less exp. in league)? Ricky Rubio

    6. Best Rookie PG? Damian Lillard

    7. Most athletic? Derrick Rose (with Russell Westbrook being more explosive)

    8. Most skilled? Steve Nash

    9. Best leader? Rajon Rondo

I put Rose in their twice. I would rather have him as the best pg in 5 years, so I will go with Russell Westbrook as the most athletic point guard.

Westbrook is interesting because he is somewhat overrated as a point guard but underrated as a GUARD. I think he could be a top 5 vote getter for the MVP award next year. But, don’t confuse that with being a great, pure point guard.

If I am building a young team RIGHT NOW who wants to win in 2 or 3 years then I would want Rajon Rondo at point guard. He is a streaky shooter (at best) but he is a category killer in assists, steals, rebounds, defense, gritty play, and gutsy performances. He can really set guys up and run an offense and he can score some when he has to.

If I can add some great shooters and wings around him like Klay Thompson, James Harden, and Kevin Durant with some great young bigs like Kevin Love, Blake Griffin, Anthony Davis, and Andrew Bynum inside then Rondo is my guy to run the team. To offset his lack of shooting I would get a backup point guard who can shoot the ball some.

I also think that Rajon Rondo has to be considered for the 2016 Olympic team if we don’t do that Under 23 thing. I doubt that CP3 and Deron Williams will play. If D Rose wants to play then he is a lock. Then you have to look at Westbrook off the bench as an instant-offense combo guard. I like Kyrie Irving too as a point guard who can shoot. I just think that Rondo would help too. Go with four point guards: the athletic and explosive D Rose as the starter, Westbrook as more of a 2 guard off the bench, with Rajon Rondo as the leader of the second unit. Can you imagine a back court of Rondo and Westbrook off the bench? Explosive, and they will get after it — you just need a great shooter at the 3 spot. Then have Kyrie Irving as the 11th/12th man in the point guard/shooter role.

This would be my 2016 team:

    Starters:

    PG: Derrick Rose
    SG: Klay Thompson
    SF: Kevin Durant
    PF: Kevin Love
    C: Dwight Howard

    Bench:

    PG: Rajon Rondo
    SG: Russell Westbrook
    SF: James Harden
    PF: Anthony Davis
    C: Andrew Bynum

    Reserves:

    PG: Kyrie Irving
    SF: Rudy Gay

Great guard rotation with some great depth up front. Anthony Davis would be perfect off the bench if he can play the 4 spot. I have Rudy Gay as the 12th man since he can play the stretch four. He can get his own shot and finish too. I thought about putting MKG or Kawhi Leonard here but Rudy Gay is a better shooter and he has more size and length. He could also be a part of a quicker, more athletic front line with Rudy and Durant at the forward spots and Anthony Davis at center. Rudy Gay can also defend pretty well when he puts his mind too it. He also gives this team another shot blocking threat.

Can somebody explain to me why John Wall has been voted the most skilled point guard not once but TWICE!? If he had the skill level of nash/paul/williams etc he would arguably be a top 5 point guard of all time. Hes supposedly 6’5-6’6 and a freak of an athlete. Hes a good point guard already and he has a long way to go with his handling(4tpg) and shooting(7% from three yes 7%).

I’m curious as to what’s overrated about Deron Williams. In my opinion he is still in the discussion for best PG in the league, although I’d probably take Paul and Rose over him. I feel like almost everyone who picks Rondo over Deron Williams is a prisoner of the moment and is failing to consider how little Deron has had to work with for much of his time with the Nets.

Personally, although I’m sure many will disagree with me, I find that Rajon Rondo, while still a fantastic player, has become a bit overrated. My issue with him, if you can call it an issue, is that he is on a Team that completely maximizes his talents, while other top point guards (Rose, Paul, Williams) have worked with less than ideal situations. Rondo has played with three other talented scorers, all of whom were effective catch and shoot players and who were able to be effective while still allowing Rondo to dominate the ball. This is not to say that Rondo hasn’t run the Boston offense incredibly, well, I think it is pretty much indisputable that he has. I would simply argue that both Paul and Williams have comperable court vision and awareness and could run that offense equally as effectively, while simaltaneously being able to shoot the ball much better.

An argument that I have frequently heard from those touting Rondo as the best point guard in the league, is that he can dominate the game without scoring. This is entirely true. However, I fully believe that Paul and Williams can both do the same thing. Paul and Williams, when their shots aren’t falling, can still control a game with their passing, making their teammates significantly better. But they are also both consistently able to carry a large scoring load, in a way that I believe Rondo is not. I do not think it’s fare to penalize Williams and Paul because they are capable of doing more than Rondo on the court, when I think they excell equally as much when it comes to setting up their teammates.

Once again, I’d like to reiterate that I think Rondo is a fantastic player and one of the best in the league, but I think people have elevated him to the status of "best in the league," partially because he has had far more to work with than his competitors for the title.

I have left Rose and Westbrook out of this discussion, because I believe they are a whole nother beast entirely and cut from a far different mold than Paul, Williams and Rondo.

My rankings of the top PGs in the league would go somehthing like:

    Rose
    Paul

    Williams

    Rondo

    Parker

    Westbrook
