 Maybe I’m making too big of a deal out of it but just looking at what he’s done to that team and the circus and distractions he created. Injury, a less than stellar post game and terrible free throw shooting for Howard made me lean towards Bynum.

I really don’t feel like ranking most of these since the choices seem to almost be between 1 or two fairly obvious guys.

Call me crazy, but I think Hakeem is the best center ever. He played in an era against all time greats at his position, he put up numbers. He could pass, shoot, score facing up or with his back to the basket, block shots, great man and weakside defense, etc. He was a complete player and spent a lot of years without the talent around him that many of the other great centers had. He played well in big games, he won championships. While Shaq has had some of the most dominant games and seasons I have ever seen (career would have been even more amazing if he focused on being in shape), I have never seen a player flat out oblitherate him like I saw Hakeem do.

I don’t see what’s hard to understand. Garnett is a center right now. No debate about it. These questions are for right now, they have nothing to do with past years when he played PF. He played center for most of last year for the Celtics and will be the starting center this year. Therefore he is certainly eligible for the best leader category in this poll.

 1. Best C right now? Bynum. Howard can’t really play with a hurt back, and Bynum has the better offensive game. He just needs to stop acting like a kid sometimes. 

2. Best C in 5 years? Demarcus Cousins. People don’t like his childish attitude, but the guy really cares and plays hard. Add that to his insane basketball skills, and I don’t see how this guy won’t be great

3. Most underrated? Demarcus Cousins put up 18-11 last year, and all you ever heard about him was how crazy he was!

4. Overrated? Noah/Lopez. People make out like these guys are game changers in the mold of Dwight Howard, when both players are lacking greatly in many things. Both got paid to. 

5. Best Young C (2 yrs or less exp. in league)? Nikola Pekovic. Maybe I’m forgetting something, but he did put up 14/7 last year in his second year. Maybe not the most potential, but clearly he was the most effective young center last year.

6. Best Rookie C? Zeller. He’s just more NBA ready then the other guys. Smart player, so he probably won’t have as much foul trouble as most young centers

7. Most athletic? McGee/Jordan, honestly what’s the difference between the two?  

8. Most skilled? Marc Gasol/Tim Duncan. Duncan would be my man, but he’s getting old. Gasol can play in the post, as well as move outside the block. One of the few centers who can actually play with their back to the basket 

9. Best leader? Kevin Garnett, you can always see him talking and supporting his team from the sidelines.

10. Top two all time? Shaq/Wilt/Kareem. Just pick two of the Lakers big men and you can’t go wrong. All of those guys were unstoppable on offense, rebounded, played good D, and played for many years.

 I’ll give you Demarcus but not the other two. Pek was a beast last year and had a stretch of games that neither Udoh or Tiago will replicate in their entire careers. The only reason I didn’t put Cousins in this spot was because I wanted to bring some light onto Pekovic, and the great season that he had last year in only his second year. Besides the first month of the season were he didn’t play he put up 16.3 ppg 9.7 rpg on 56% shooting from the field, and a month later in February he scored 17.4 ppg while grabbing 8.5 rpg.

You could argue that Tiago was close, his averages aren’t as nice as Pek’s were because he only played 19 minutes per game, but in those 19 he averaged 9 and 5, and per 36 minutes that’s 18 and 10. 

I won’t compare his per 36 stats to Pek’s because Pek’s are scewed, he didn’t get much run until February, but when he did he played really well. I think he’ll keep it up because he’s just so strong, but remember he was supposed to have foot surgery this off-season because he had bone spurs in his right foot, which he played through the last month of the season(same thing Ray Allen had to play through, but Allen also had the surgery in 2007) 

So Pek is better, but Tiago isn’t as far off as it seems, Pek’s PER was 21.4 while Tiago’s was 20.5, not far off. Hopefully he’ll get some more run but with a loaded Spurs frontline that takes pride in sharing the load, but the problem is that ever since Boris Diaw joined the team, his minutes have been limited even more. In the playoffs he averaged only 13 minutes per, and this is with DeJaun Blair getting DNPs and only averaging 7 minutes per game, and Matt Bonner’s minutes dropping from 20 to 12.

Pekovic is no doubt better than Udoh you and probably Splitter, but not better than Cousins.

And I love Pek as well, I believe he’s a really strong inside low post force who could put up 15 and 8, but remember, he’s not your typical 2 year player, he’s 26 and will be 27 in Janruary, he’s not old but he’s not a really young guy that has a really high ceiling.

Tim Duncan (Still is. Know he is seen as a PF classically, but Pop even called him his center for the last 15 years. Historically rate him best PF of All-Time, but he has definitely been a center and is the most skilled. Marc Gasol is probably the next highest up as far as that goes)
