DipoTimeParticipantThe guy is really talented no doubt. But he averaged 16 points on 15 shots and shot 39% from the field, 29% from 3, and 67% from the line. The only guys that can get away with that russel Westbrook who uses his ridiculous speed and explosiveness and rajon rondo who is an amazing passer and defender. I just don’t see that from council. He is a really good all around player and passer but he really needs to be more efficient and consistent all over the floor, not just shooting.
Overall, I think he can make a team but I personally see someone who looks like a really good D-Leaguer and that’s about it

DipoTimeParticipantOh ya and he played almost 39 minutes per game. Great stamina but he was all they really had. You can look at that as a good thing or a bad thing. Would he be more efficient with less time and better players? Or would he just be worse bc he’s just too inconsistent?

F_Si cant believe i knew nothing about this kid.
i will watch some more films, BUT I AM IMPRESSED to say the least.
he’s a 6’2 PG averaging 16-7.5-4 and 1.3 steals (1.7 as a soph), i need to hear good weaknesses because if not, i say this kid has lotto talent, and the only person that can prevent this kid from getting drafted is himself, he has all the tools to it
he looks very fluid with the ball, shot off the dribble and mechanics working good, and he can finish at the rim.
thank you for posting this, i will follow this guy very closely.

NJHooper95ParticipantCouncil is the best pg Providence has had since Shamgod Wells. He has the tools, if Providence can be respectable this year, Council has a shot as early second round guy or late first round if he plays well.

F_Syea, that’s the likely scenario ^.
i tried to read up on him on DX, and he wouldn’t show up…. i cant wait for providencefriars assessment. i need a lil in-depth info on this guy, cuss i think he is one of the most underrated prospects right now.

JoeWolf1I’ve seen him play a few times over the years and I’m not that high on him. He’s got a great handle and that allows him to make some good moves, but is not a great athlete.
In my opinion, he’s a lot where Scott Machado was after his junior year. Playing for the worst team in the Big East isn’t a whole lot different than playing for Iona and there are a lot of similar questions about Machado. He stepped up and improved his shot, but it’s hard for guys like this to get looks in the draft. I certainly don’t see a lottery caliber PG .
One thing I look at when it comes to borderline prospects is how they play against ranked and elite teams. Council is certainly a gamer, but extremely in-efficient. His FG% dropped to 35% against top 25 teams this season and his 3 PT % dropped to 27%. If he’s that inefficient when his competition goes up, then what is that going to be like against NBA guards?
He filled a big role for a bad team, but he’s not an NBA player IMO. Even if he steps up and improves his shooting percentages and efficiency, Machado’s lack of interest in the draft showed how hard it is for guys like this to make it in the modern draft era.

providencefriars1ParticipantIm on the fence with Council right now. There are the times where he dominates the game especially in transition and there are times where he looks too frenetic and out of control. He is an excellent mid range shooter and probably one of the best in the country from 15-17 feet, but he is an atrocious free throw shooter for a guard. He has good size at about 6’2” and has the neccessary strength to be a pro. Council also has an above average bball IQ and is great at penetrating to create offense.
He led the Big East in assists the past two years with very little assitance. Coleman and Brooks played mostly off the dribble and controlled the ball alot and I imagine Ledo will do the same. The Friars have never really had a true low post threat for the past two years so all of his assists come from Bryce Cotton’s jumpers or in transition. This speaks volumes for Council’s abilities as a point guard and I expect him to lead the Big East in assists once again.
I often look for year to year improvement when it comes to prospects and Vincent Council has improved dramatically each year. Last year he was the only ball handler which affected his shooting percentages, but this year the Friars add Ledo and Dunn(2nd semester) who will help Council with the PG load. If Council improves his long range shooting and free throws he is potentially an early second round pick.
Hope this helps

F_Sawsome. if i was a GM, he would be a lock on my list in the second round, i would not skip him.
i was thinking the same thing regarding his passing. 7.5 assist in that team is very good, i bet he is expected to lead the team day in and day out, hence his poor shooting percentages.
im speculating but he reminds me of a lance stephenson mix w tyshawn taylor

Malik-UniversalParticipantive never seen him play but he prob needs a breakout sr. yr ala tyshawn taylor to get more looks
which will enhance his chances of getting drafted

Malik-UniversalParticipanthe doesnt shoot well from the field, isnt very effienct offensively if u look at the shooting %’s aside from his passing and plays for a mediocore team….. unless his jumper really improves

providencefriars1ParticipantPC hasnt had this much talent since 1997 when they made the elite eight. I recommend every one to catch a game or two this year to check out Council, Ledo, Henton, Sidiki, and Dunn when hes back.
