Dickie V and Magic Johnson were just absurd with the praise tonight

Dickie V- I’ve seen the same things out of Michael Jordan out of him tonight

Magic- he’d be a top 5 pick in the draft, similar to Jordan and Wade

hey the kid is good but boy oh boy do we over rate prospects to the masses in todays game

Dickie V is a cheerleader, Magic Johnson just agrees with everything since he isn’t much of an analyst.

In Dickie V’s defense I believe right after he said something along the lines of, “Hey now don’t criticize me for calling him Jordan-esqe man, I am not saying he is Jordan ok, he just reminds me of how Jordan played in college baby.” So lets not try and take things out of proportion.

people hear what they want to hear and ignore all the other things said with it. People also get but hurt when a 2 guard is compared to mj or wade.

Dudes averaging 20 ppg on 66% shooting along with, 6.3 boards and 3.5 steals against ranked teams. He is the best defensive wing player in the NCAA. I remember readin that against #1 Michigan he guarded for different players for 40 some possessions and only allowed 4 points. As far as his impact in college basketball I think that is fair.

Oladipo’s defense will be his bread and butter at the next level….People are comparing him to Jordan becuz of his combination of great athleticism, defense, high energy and that he’s a hardworker..But this kid isnt as skilled as Jordan…..In fact his lack of overall skills will be exposed when he goes to the combine…..

And compared to Wade because he operates like a Big inside.

^ Exactly, In the NBA, you got athletes, everywhere. In this watered down college basketball landscape its easy to stand out.

I like what I see from oladipo alot. But yeah magic and Dickie were going overboard all night. Dickie kept bringing up Jordan when talking about victor. Both said he is a top 5 lock. And with Cody zeller magic actually said he has seen a lot of basketball and Cody was the mist complete player he’s seen. I forget exactly how he worded it, but he made it sound like he was talking about ever. God I hope I’m wrong and he just meant this season.

It definitely seemed like he meant ever, and I had the same reaction. After thinking, though, “most complete” does not mean “best.” Cody Zeller really can do just about everything well at the college level. Does that mean he’s the best college player of all time? Of course not, but his game is solid all around.

It was still a hyperbole, but it got less ridiculous the more I thought about it.

Almost every time I hear Magic Johnson talk, I swear he doesn’t even watch basketball. If he wasn’t a Hall of Famer and absolute legend, I would seriously wonder if he knows the first thing about basketball. Listening to Magic Johnson almost always makes me want to throw things at the TV. Last night was no different.

Magic meant Cody is the best he’s seen in college this season…Magic sometimes confuses me when he talks about basketball..Sometimes he’s right on the money, other times he doesnt know what he’s talking about..I remember during the 1993 draft when he said Calbert Cheaney would be a better player then Penny Hardaway….

Oladipo has done well, but I see him between 8 – 15, depends on how he ends the season, not a lot of guys like him in the league and if Battier, Bruce Bowen and Tony Allen can carve themselves nice careers, I dont see why Oladipo cant do the same, he just to to be in the right situation…

Do you think he can improve offensively? Can he attack off the dribble?

Oladipo seems to have trouble going left and dribbling with his left hand…Im surprised defenders havent noticed this….His moves are so predictable..He appears to have small hands, becuz when he dunks its usually with both hands or he cuffs the ball..And he has trouble creating off the dribble and in isolation plays….

He’s a very smart kid ,that is playing with supreme confidence..I doubt he’ll if he’ll be as dominant at the next level, becuz of his many flaws….People are getting carried AWAY…A GM will be making a huge mistake if they draft this kid in the top 5…Maybe in the 12 to 20 range is more likely, becuz of his competitiveness ….There arent many nba players that gives 100% the entire game….

He has already improved dramatically offensively. I don’t see why that improvement would stop.
He’s shown some flashes of advanced off the dribble moves. He’s shown a nice inside out move with the right hand (he’s right hand dominant). He had another right to left cross last night for a layup. Plus he has an excellent first step. I don’t see why he couldn’t get a couple of buckets a game off of straight line drives. The good thing about Oladipo’s game is that he can get easy buckets. He’s a smart player who moves well without the ball, so he can score slashing off of curls, cuts, making himself available for dump offs and o-board garbage buckets. Victor’s also a dynamite transition player who generates a lot of TOs. I don’t think he’ll be a player who’ll have plays run for him, but can still chip in offense via his activity, athleticism and off the ball play.

I love his game, he’s going to be a great glue guy for a team. I can see him carving out a great niche in a Kawhi Leonard type role. Dont let the Bulls get their hands on this kid, imagine that

However Dickie V and Magic were just putrid last night

Dickie V and Bob Knight have a tendency to overrate college guys at times. Bob Knight used to have a disgusting fascination with LaceDarius Dunn a few years back, like he really thought he was “a lottery pick.” They tend to get caught up in watching good college players and overreact at times lol

That’s kinda strange. You’d figure Bob Knight would hate a player like Dunn because he was such a selfish chucker. Maybe he watched a game where Dunn used a lot of shot fakes.
