Apparently there is going to be one soon.

An investment group wants to bring an NBA team to Las Vegas.

The group, International Development Management LLC, said it’s close to purchasing an NBA team to play in its proposed arena.

The “deal” has a lot of loopholes to clear. The investment group must first strike a deal with the county to fund construction of its proposed arena.

Chris Milam, CEO of International, told the Las Vegas Sun the group has a team “under contract.”

The NBA would still have to “okay” to a team in Las Vegas, which still might not be a lock.

Detroit, Minnesota, and Sacramento have been floated as possible teams. The Kings deny it. Detroit’s owner also owns The Palace so that does not make a ton of sense. I cannot see Stern allowing another good market (Twin Cities) lose a team to a small city. Seattle, Vancouver, and the Twin Cities? These are 3 million plus metro areas with good corporate bases, and they would be trading them in for Memphis, Oklahoma City, and Las Vegas? That is a big downgrade in all instances. Milwaukee won’t move because Herb Kohl is the Senator from Wisconsin. He is tied to that state. Memphis and New Orleans always are going to have their names get thrown out there. New Orleans would probably be the team being mentioned. A few months ago, Shinn was supposedly selling the majority stake to Gary Chouest. The deal hasn’t been finalized and is probably in doubt with the oil spill and the uncertainty in the industry of which Edison Chouest Offshore is a part. I think Chouest is the only one in that ownership who is tied to Louisiana. Shinn has always been a carpetbagger.

Kings would want 2 but, the owners of the kings own the palms so they would not be allowed to have an nba team in vegas, bc they have a sports book at the palms. I dont see this happening but if it did Memphis,New Orleans,& t-wolves would be caniddates, but is having an expantion team out of the question, before the bobcats came there were 29 team,so having an odd number of team shouldnt matter, idk what gonna happen but should be interesting to see how this all falls out.

i was under the impression that stern said no team would ever play there as long as NBA games are on the sports books?

There was a ton of trouble going around up and down the vegas strip. Don’t know if this would be a good idea, but it can happen. Haven’t the Maloof’s been trying to move the Kings to Vegas?

I live in vegas and they were talking about this on the radio the only way vegas can get a team is if they get an arena built which may be happening pretty soon also the Maloofs if they wanted to could move the kings out here because there is no betting on their team anyway if the kings are playing u cant bet on them at their casino u can bet on other teams but not the kings. But from what the people on the radio have been saying Stern doesnt want an NBA team here. He believes that the gambling thing will be a problem. That is a dumb thing for him to say because one thing the gaming commission keeps an eye on is gambling and most of the illegal things that happens when it comes to gambling doesnt even happen in vegas.
