valentineSo far this is a battle. Josh Smith cant seem to stay out of foul trouble in the games ive watched him and this is no different. nelson and lee are playing very well but the rest of the team isnt really helping them out much on offense. I still agree with where the polls had Ucla ranbked in the preseaon as well as the Pac-10 just not being very good this year. Vcu on the other hand should be a very interesting team to watch as the season progresses

WizardofOzParticipantI hope UCLA loses, just to see an upset. I love seeing upsets in college, except for when my beloved Terps get upset.

stanford hoopsit wouldnt be muich of a upset though. Vcu was a tournament team last year and ucla isnt a ranked team. in alot of polls i dont even think they were top 30

llperezyou agree with the polls having ucla ranked between 2nd and 3rd which almost all of them had prior to the season but then make it sound like thats not very good?
And ucla needs to mature fast. The talnet is there but they dont defend and they make too many mistakes on offense. They had the ball down 1 with a minute 10 seconds to go and turned the ball over twice giving up break away layups to go down 5. That was pretty much ball game right there.

llperezlee got 23, nelson had another double double with 20-12 and honeycutt got 18 and 10 boards. But they dont do the little things. I cant go around making excuses or talking any more hype about the bruins right now. But hopefully they grow from this trip to NY and get it together.
As for the pac 10 as a whole. Washington has impressed me and i do believe they are a top 10-15 team in america. We still have to see arizona play a big name, but they look good so far. Cal is undefeated and just beat temple last night. Washington state is undefeated while playing without their second best player in reggie moore.

stanford hoopsi agreed with third in the pac10. 3rd in the pac-10 doesnt mean top 25 or even top 30. i said before the season that you were overrating ucla. i dont think they are bad but i clearly thought they werent a top 25 and i said as much plenty of times

llperezyeah, right now they defenitely dont look top 25. I cant really defend myself on that one. But the talent is there and hopefully they get it together. Villanova is a top 10 team and the VCU game came down to the wire.

stanford hoopsi dont blame you for that because there have been a couple of years where i overrated my team(maryland) when we were good but i felt we were better then what most people thought

JNixonParticipantYour conference is weak if UCLA is your 3rd best team.
And speaking of Cal, they put up 5 POINTS in the 1st half of their game today. AKA the lowest total in a half since the shot clock was brought into the college game.

llperez@jnixon, yup, the conference is no doubt down still I dont think anyone is arguing that. But caL did beat temple. Washigton did go to the finla seconds with both UK and machigan state. Arizona and washgingotn who were both picked to be top 5 teams in the conference are both undefeated still. The conference is showing solid improvements. UCLA will only get better since they are so young.

JNixonParticipantWashington is the only team in the Pac-10 that really can compete with nearly every team in the country. Arizona is good enough to sneak in the tourny as a bubble squad, and UCLA probably will be good enough to possibly sneak in the tourny at the end of the year too (they’ll be playing in a bad conference after all), but they really suck on D right now. Bad. And that has to improve for them to be a good team. Washington State is an NIT team, Cal basically sucks despite being a decent Temple team, and everyone else is not going to factor much in the national scheme of things.

llperezagree with everything you said. I predicted 3 teams from the pac 10 to get in before the season started with ucla, wahsington and arizona making it. I dont back off that. Washington state and arizona state are both bubble teams who have a chance and i dont back off that either. 3-4 teams in the tournament is a solid upgrade from last year.
