Danny Ainge was in Volos, Greece to watch Giannis Adetokoubo play in person.
The parade of NBA teams officials continues in Greece, as Giannis Adetocunbo seems to be one of the hottest NBA prospects in Europe. A representative of the Utah Jazz (Dennis Lindsey) was present in the junior league game of the 18 year old Filathlitikos player against Panathinaikos on Monday, 1st of April, and on Wednesday, 3rd of April, Adetocunbo played with the senior team in front of a well known NBA figure.
Danny Ainge, the president of Boston Celtics, together with assistant general manager Ryan McDonough, traveled to the Greek city of Volos (327 klm north of Athens) in order to see the road game of Filathlitikos against the local team named Niki for the second division. A win for Filathlitikos being a big step towards the Greek first division, it was an important match up and an important person was among the crowd.
Many others have already visited Greece and the son of Ainge, Austin, who is also the Celtics director of player personnel, has already scouted personally Adetocunbo. Of course, the player will enter the draft, and it’s expected that he will not withdraw his name.
UPDATE: Filathlitikos beat Niki Volou 75-70. Adetocunbo had 19 points, 9 rebounds, 1 steal, and 2 blocks, and Ainge was taking his notes from a court side seat between the scorers table and the guests’ bench. When the home team lost, its fans started cursing at the winners, and also at Ainge. They thought he was someone affiliated with Filathlitikos. When they were informed who he was, they started shouting at him that everyone in Volos is a fan of the Lakers.
