Tip off soon. I’m going USA, think it will be an excellent game for them to find cohesion against a well rounded and experienced opponent . As an Australian I’ve already been disappointed once tonight, so hopefully they don’t let me down.

You haven’t missed a great deal. It’s been reasonably steady going, USA defintely trying to pick up the speed

Half court sets are really not ideal for US, they don’t seem to have a second play after their first one breaks down

Refs are definitely not on Team USA’s side.  About 10 of the last 14 France points have been off phantom calls.

France’s main problem  is that they are too shy (Traoré and Batum are the rare ones who try) to get inside on a regular basis and, as they lack good jumpshooters (was p*ssed off when I saw Flo Pietrus take a 3), they can’t knock it down well. Also, Parker not playing very well doesn’t help, he isn’t the go-to-guy he has been in the past European Championship.

The are certainly some soft calls. In the Aus v Brazil game there was about 50 of those. The worst were consecutive unsportsmanlike fouls (tech) that were almost the worst calls i’ve ever witnessed. They barely waranted fouls yet they called them as techs. Seems like they are trying to reduce physicality.

USA needs to learn how to guard post players. Some of the calls down there were touch but we need to adjust. I’d like to see us wear down teams guards defensively. Just get up in them and wear them down. It was a good first game. A lot of France’s player are NBA players or close to it.

Honestly, a lot of thoes calls for France were B.S.  Although we won by 27, we should have won by 35+ and our interior defense is absolutely horrible when Chandler is out.  We have no shot-blocking presence without Chandler and nobody even puts their hands up down there.  LeBron, Carmelo, Durant, and Love let the opposing bigs get right under the rim before they even try to be physical and by that time, it’s way too late.

Ali Traore 12-5 on us in only 13 minutes of play and these were not garbage minutes.  This was when he was matched up with LeBron, Melo or Durant.  If an unknown big can thrash them like this, what’s going to happen when Marc, Pau Gasol and Serge Ibaka come to town?

One thing I really liked that I did not expect though was how good our rebounding was.  France didn’t get many 2nd chances after their first miss and it’s really because of how great Durant, Carmelo, Chandler, and LeBron were rebounding.  Not to mention guards Westbrook and Williams sneaking in a couple of times for some boards too.
