Status QuoParticipantKevin Love has pulled out of contention for his spot on the USA Men’s Fiba World Cup team due to the trade talks he’s been involved in. It really just looks like its a move by the Wolves to say, don’t get hurt, so we can get the most back in a trade for Love. http://espn.go.com/olympics/basketball/story/_/id/11267219/kevin-love-minnesota-timberwolves-withdraws-team-usa Thoughts? Assumptions? Speculation?

IndianaBasketballParticipantNo Love. No Aldridge. No Griffin. Team USA will be vulnerable up front, especially against a team like Spain. Cousins and Drummond should make the roster now. Durant will probably start at the four.

tuck243ParticipantThey were going to be vulnerable up front anyway… LA has the best defense out of the 3 and even then it’s nothing to write home about… I think they’ll be fine…

SmooveKRYPTParticipantDavis is going to take off. And they have to take big Cuz now.
My updated roster picks.
G: Curry, Harden, Rose, Wall, Kyrie/Lillard.
F: KD, George, Klay.
C: Davis, Cousins, Drummond.
Last spot probably between DeRozan, Parsons, & Beal depending on where they want more depth.

omphalosParticipantIf he impresses with the select team I could see Barnes getting a call-up as a stretch 4 like he did in the playoffs his rookie year.

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantto call any shots. It’s almost nothing they can tell Love and he has to listen. IMO if anybody told him not to play USA Ball its his agent.
A lot of times guys with pending free agencies won’t play and guys that play on teams that want to make a next step playoff step like Aldridge’s Blazers.
Maybe Love fits both catagories as he is a free agent after the season if he chooses and may also have plans to play for a championship hopeful playoff team.
If I were Love and I wanted to win a NBA championship and I was pretending to be a devious creep, I would go to USA basketball and fake a injury. Then be traded for Harrison Barnes or Anthony Bennett and a pick or Mitoric and McBuckets straight up. Either way I would be going to a potential dynasty team. If I was a troll and wanted the team I go to, to be in the best possible situation to dominate, thats what I would want to be.

TallmanNYCParticipantLove doesn’t want to get hurt or to hurt his reputation. Love didn’t get too much playing time in the last Olympics despite USA often actually needing his rebounding ability. If I were a Big, I would never want to be evaluated based on my performance under a Coach K and that staff. USA was actually pushed by the Gasol brothers because the coaches wouldn’t play Chandler and Love. So why go play, for free, and potentially have a couple of bad games or maybe not get much playing time and then have that hurt your value when you are trying to sign up a contract this summer?
Anyway, they probably don’t think they need any big players. And with Lebron and KD I suppose they don’t.

Status QuoParticipantLebron James isn’t on this USA World Cup roster. As far as your other points in regards to losing value for your next contract, I’m sure NBA GM’s don’t put much weight into individual performances from Team USA competition. Another thing about Olympic and World Championship (now renamed World Cup of Basketball), most players who participate in this competition generally have career years. D.Rose wasn’t spectacular for the last World Championship Team and he won most valuable player award, Durant went on to be the hottest name in basketball not named Lebron James after competing for Team USA. No one plays bad in these games, you’re looked at to fill a role, most of the players come back saying they have learned alot from the experience in terms of leadership, team work and general knowledge of the game. It’s not like Coach K is alone, he has always had NBA head coaches and hall of fame college coach teaching alongside him.

Jr. ROXASParticipantIs the US team really that ignorant to snub Big Al. I mean, now without Love, Aldridge and Blake, the need for a big is at an all-time high. And Al Jeff is a top 3 big in the league right now.

felixthecatParticipantWell they just invited Milsap, that doesn’t bode well for Faried, whom I had making it before Milsap was announced. Either way expect to see alot of Davis at the four, then Durant sliding down there too. I agree though, no AlJeff, when we need another inside presence. USA still gonna win it though. Our shooters are the best in the world.
