UNC vs. Kentucky game thread
I said it yesterday but Henson and Davis are so similar its silly.
Should be a good game, I expect UNC to win, but I expect it to be close
Goooo Tar Heels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CBS is playing it.
Zeller's skill is pretty impressive, He is a really smart basketball player. He's besting Davis (right now at least) by positioning and solid moves.
Jones is the man..seems like he learnt how you use strength against longer and versatility against bigger guys..
still waiting anything from AD to show why he is SO much better than Henson
How do you guys feel about Terrence Jones? Last year I wasn't a fan he seemed a little robotic and a bit of a tweener in the bad way, not fast enough for SF, not strong enough for post, but now he looks a little smoother and maybe in better shape. He is starting to make me a believer in him being a true SF.
^^^^^ Yea the whole McAdoo love was really confusing to me, they had him as the 3rd overall pick and he is clearly someone who needs a few years in college and even then he is not the type of game changing player who would be that high of a pick. He is also clearly in between positions.
For a big guy (250) Jones isn't very strong and you're right he's too slow to play SF. I don't think he's a true SF, but I think he can play. I don't think he's going to be a complete player at the next level, but there are a lot of pros who aren't very good defenders. I think Terrance has a lot of Antoine Walker in him to be completely honest.
Thats a good comparison JOE. Your'e right he is still missing something but I don't know exactly what.
too bad Barnes got in foul trouble because looks like he is on his mission to destroy UK only by shooting
another who impressed me(actually he always impresse me) MKG 8pts 7 REBOUNDS it's amazing to fight like that in the post next to AD TJones Henson Zeller ect..he is a true warrior..if basketball wouldn't be about scoring he would be the best out there lol
and Anthony still seems non factor offensively..warning?
I think kentucky wins this as the home team and they seemingly play harder then UNC on defense. I love kendall marshalls game but lamb and teague are gonna give him problems
@lalaila MKG played a great half; fighting for offensive rebounds, got barnes in foul trouble, and scoring all the while having no offense run for him. To be honest thats the match-up I love watching thus far. They were going AT it for the first 6-7 minutes of the first half. I think MKG has the advantage when he puts the ball on the floor against Barnes, as those fouls were really pretty silly and the result of being a step behind. Really excited to see the second half of that battle
TJ may not have a great deal of speed but he knows how to skillfully weave his way past guys and create shots. He's like a taller version of Pierce. I love Jones.
Bullock reminds me of Kevin Durant in his footwork
Yeah, McAdoo looks like a 3 or 4 year player so far this year
This game is fantastic. Marshall never fails to amaze me with his control and vision
Hadn't seen any of PJ Hairston until today and granted he's having a very good game shooting wise so far, but he looks a lot like Barnes. Looking forward to watching him more this year
MKG is a SF He's 6'7 not 6'6 and he is 230. Good size just on that alone but also think about how long his arms are, how athletic he is, and how hard he works. No question about his position. he has played great defense on Barnes and Barnes has only score when he has been wide open through a screen or off a wide open shot from a loose ball. Hopefully that continues because Barnes worries me alot. This game was hyped up during the summer and so far it has lived utothe hype.
Davis needs to watch Henson and learn from him, stay another year and work on his half court iffensive game
@Yurple The real question is were people really calling Davis the first pick over all?
Wow. Completely overslept and only get to see the last 5 minutes...
I don't think anyone was doubting that Davis was raw/unpolished offensively...but UK doesn't seem to get him many opportunities offensively either (aside from lobs).
He has the touch, which is more than you can say for many past raw bigs.
YUPYUP lap you're self. This has been a GREAT GAME. NBA preseason game as far as the talent. You want threes? Face dunk,Defense,Post footwork, slashing? This game has had it all
WOW what a shot
If this doesn't go to OT I'm gonna flip. So pissed at myself for this.
Kinda anti climactic with Zeller losing the ball
YEEEEAAAAAAHHHHH BUDDDDY. UNC players were stunned because Henson never gets his shot blocked. GREAT GAME UNC played very well, hopefully the rematch will be in the title game
Damn, UNC just lost that game by going with Zeller on the block. Barnes has come up big so many times in the clutch, they should have isolated him to win/lose the game. Great block by Davis on Henson, if John had just thrown up a pump fake he could have gone by Davis for a dunk/lay-in. Still, great game, and the Barnes-Kidd-Gilchrist matchup was great.
I did pick UNC, but Kentucky played really solid defense at the end of the game. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist won his match-up with Harrison Barnes and I could not believe Henson just paused after Davis blocked him. Huge mental lapse by UNC, Kentucky earned this one. Really hope we get to see a repeat down the line. Kentucky's perimeter defense was taken advantage of fairly constantly, but I loved how they swarmed Tyler Zeller. He still made his presence felt, but they shut him down at the end of the game. Doron Lamb stepped up big time and Kentucky did a surprisingly solid job of holding onto the ball. Fantastic game, lived up to its billing.
why the hell didnt henson foul after he got his shot blocked? There was 5 seconds left and he just started back peddaling on defense when the guy was right in front of him.
McAdoo isn't skinny. You see his arms at the free throw line. He's actually very muscular. Just is clueless on the court and can't shoot and doesn't have a position. Other than that...
Surprised that it was blocked. Hell i was even surprised i kind of stopped for a second because i couldn't believe his shot was blocked lol. One thing i forgot to mention is UK also doesn't go to Davis much in the half court so don't bash him too much for lack of offense. He can score if he got the ball as much as Henson but he is the fourth/fifth option on offense. Hats off to UNC and the fans because they played a great game, couldn't play much better than that considering the defense that was played on y'all.
I really like P.J Hairston. I dont know why he doest have playing time .. its maybe because he is bad in defense but if i am Roy Williams i will give him 25 min per games. He is a great scorer
Great game.
Harrison Barnes getting into foul trouble really hurted.
Kendall Marshall is the BEST passer in the country, regardless if he leads the country in assist or not, he can really pass ball, if he can get more confidence in his shot, watch out.
PJ Hairston and Reggie Bullock got choppers on deck lol, they are good shooters in other words.
Terrence Jones played out of his mind in the first half and that monster dunk in the first half was sick.
Doron Lamb is a really good scorer made some huge shots.
MKG is a bit undersized for the next level, but he has the intangibles and ability to get it done at the 3 spot.
Marquis Teague started off the game with a steal and layup, then had a super quick crossover on the next possesion and seemed as if he was about to show the world why he was the #1 PG in the country last year, then it seemed he lost his confidence after a few bad plays. He hasnt showed me much at this point, he has all the tools, but he's gotta be more than just a guy who dribbles twice then pass it out if he wants to be a lottery pick.
I don't think Barnes foul trouble hurt that much because they actually still scored and hit threes and extended the lead while he wasn't in the game. Kidd-Gilchrist had a harder time guarding with Barnes out of the game but easier with Barnes in. Barnes couldn't score with him on him but he still took some bad shots, shots that wouldn't have been taken with him in the game. He was a ball stopper a couple of times when swinging the ball was working perfectly for UNC
my thoughts:
after that block i was like: "OHHHHHHHHHH YEAAAAHHH that's what AD potential is all about" but then i slowed down..actually not a little bit but pretty much dissapointed in him..blocks rebounds and defense won't give you 1st pick in this freakish draft it might not be enough even for top3..yes he showed the touch by catching ball and that little spin jump hook but tha's it..even alleyoops didn't worked for him and it showed he won't dunk that much in the nba too..and he is afraid to try to beat Zeller of the dribble don't say he hadn't opportunities to do it..guy like Perry would have crossed Zeller at least twice in this game...
T.Jones: almost non factor in the second half but i'm impressed how he learned from last years bad bad game againt Henson and UNC..
MKG: where those he can't score things came from?? he is the most active agressive mentally tough guy in the whole nation..jumpshot is the easiest skill to improve and he already isn't terrible and he is 6'7 232 with the frame to be even much stronger he is athetic..and after his game i have no need to talk about his defense and all-around game..this is where he is elite one..and remember he is even younger than Drummond 18yrs and about 2 months
Harrison Barnes hmm still not a big time leader but great shooter with the most nba moves out of all guys out there..
Henson: i see more and more lottery potential 6'11 220 already don't have the shoulders like AD but still can get another 10 15 pounds and he is as good if not better defender and his offensive skill set continues to improve..i just don't see why he should not be a good nba player..
Joe Johnson 6'8 240
Richard Jefferson 6'7
Beasley 6'7
Caron Butler 6'7
lou Deng 6'7/6'8
Bron-Freak
Durant-Unguardable
Melo 6'7
MKG is the perfect height for a NBA SF. Small Forwards aren't all Durant of Bron then are mostly 6'7 6'8 and MKG actually seems to have longer arms than all of them and if I'm not mistaken that is WAY more important than where you're head ends up on the height chart. He's also 230 which is a very good starting point or a weight he can stay at and just get stronger. He's also only 18 years old.... At least he will be Gereld Wallace IMO

With two top teams playing, with as many as 12 NBA prospects playing in the game, I imagine many of you will be watching.
