JoeWolf1Tyshawn Taylor lead the USA U19 team with 13 points and 4 assists the other night. Being an Kansan I admit to having a bit of a bias towards KU players, but Taylor is really emerging as a good young combo guard prospect. Sherron Collins( who is not stranger to speed ) said Taylor was the fastest player he has ever seen, and with the international experience he is getting this summer paired with Bill Self and his ability to recruit and develop colligate guards (Deron Williams, Dee Brown, Mario Chalmers, Brandon Rush, Sherron Collins to name a few ) looks to be a real up and comer. His scoring stats aren’t going to wow you, but he is a better offensive player than he gets credit for, last year versus Willie Warren and OU he went off for 26 including 3-5 3 pointers and he is only gettitng better. Although he will have to share minutes with Collins and Henry next year he still may test the waters in 2010 especially if KU is a final four team and if not he will flat out tear it up as a junior.

ckowalskiParticipantMaybe I am missing something but didn’t Deron Williams and Dee Brown play under Bruce Weber on the same Illinois team? Or are you just saying Bill Self recruited these 2 players but did not necessarily land them at his program?

JoeWolf1Self was there before Weber and recruited them both, they may have played one year under Weber

ckowalskiParticipantok, gotcha. When did Self take the Kansas job, somewhere around ’03?

JoeWolf1He took it the job after Roy left for Carolina

ckowalskiParticipantironic that Weber took that illinois team to an undefeated season in ’05 only to lose to North Carolina in the finals isn’t it? For what it’s worth I picked Arizona vs. UNC in that finals and Arizona had a 15 point lead on Illinois with 4 minutes to play and choked something awful. I still had UNC winning the whole thing. Then I had Memphis winning it all last year with Rose only to have them blow a lead in the final seconds. Apparently Self is my enemy.

Lemons4LifeParticipantWeber has always been great with guards. As for Tyshawn Taylor, he’s going to be good.

JNixonParticipantMustafa Shakur and Salim Stoudamire were the reason they lost that game. But I think Tyshawn Taylor needs get a little better on offense, but I think it will come in time. He doesnt seem to be done developing, even though he isnt a real high upside guy.

JoeWolf1you don’t have to be a freak athlete to have a high upside, there have been a lot of players of average or above average athleticism who became great pros, and a lot of “high upside” freak athletes that were busts

JNixonParticipantI said he doesnt seem to be done developing, but I dont think he will get a whole lot better than he is now. I didnt say anything about freak athletes, so where did that come from?
