Cody is obviously a special talent but I can’t help but wonder if Tyler has always been just as good. He was stuck behind Hansborough and Ed Davis his first two years, would Cody have started? If Tyler went to Indiana instead of UNC would he have put up huge numbers as well? He would have gone there the year after Eric Gordon left which if  you remember they didnt have many options on offense. Tyler would have been the go to guy. If tyler had played 32 min a game his freshman year, statistically (based on his stats per 32 min) he would have averaged about 14 and 8 (cody averaged 15 and 6). I’m sure this factored into Cody’s college decision. But if he did put up big numbers as a freshman at Indiana 4 years ago, and had he declared for the draft, he would have likely been drafted ahead of hansborough. Just something interesting to think about.

Cody was the #1 option as a Fr. and led his team to the Sweet 16 and is the main reason Indiana is favored to win the NC next season. Cody shot 7% higher from the floor then Tyler did (this year, not Tyler’s Fr. year), averaged more assists, steals and had less turnovers. He even got to the line at the same rate as Zeller. He’s not as big (yet), but he’s quite a big younger, has all the same strengths and is further along then Tyler was at the same stage. I like Tyler but Cody’s definitely the better prospect.

If not for injuries his first two seasons in college , I think Tyler Zeller would of ended up getting much more press other than that he was injury prone and btw he isn’t to all the people who said that.  Where he gets drafted this year I think will be heavily dependent on his measureables at the combine.  Things like wingspan which I have no idea what it is will be interesting as will does he really weigh 250 , I had a chance to be around the UNC team at pre game shoot arounds on road trips and he looks to be every bit of 250lbs especially standing next to a guy like Eric Montross who is a big guy.  Though I think athletically he will show better than many think , for his position he is a slightly above average athlete who runs the floor better than anyone in this draft.  I think all the UNC guys have the potential to be much better pros than college players.
