Am I getting ahead of myself, or would Tyler Ulis be a top 8 pick this year if he were 6’2”? I know there are always the "what if" questions, but I watch this guy play and the game seems to just come so easy to him. And if he were even 6′ tall, I think he would be a lottery pick. He has elite speed and quickness, he’s a great passer, has a high I.Q., great decision maker, good defender, can score, and he seems to also be the energy and intensity guy as well as the leader for Kentucky. When I watch him play, you can just tell he has understands the game of basketball and is able to do whatever he needs to for his team to win. To me, it appears to me that he has pretty much all of the skills that would translate to the NBA except the size. And because of this, I don’t think a team would use a early to mid-first round pick on someone who is 5’9”. At the college level, it doesn’t really seem like there is anything you can exploit in his game unless you have a bigger guard who can post up. Keep in mind, I’m not BBN biased because I hate Kentucky, but I love Ulis’ game.

What are your thoughts on him, and what he could possibly do while in college and at the next level? And what are some weaknesses in his game?

His only weakness is that his jumpshot, although very good right now, isn’t on par with Isaiah Thomas and Nate Robinson as he lacks the elevation that they get on their jumpers. But that may not even matter as his game is completely different from theirs as he thrives off getting his teammates involved.

What if Rabb and Diallo were 7 footers?

What if Korkmaz and LeVert were 220 lbs of muscle?

What if Jamal Murray and Malik Newman were 6’7”?

Like I said, there are always the "what if" questions. My main question was what does everyone else think of him as a player as he is now, and what he can bring in the future. I was just saying, that I believe if he were between 6′ and 6’2" as a point guard, he would probably be a mid lottery pick becuase of his skillset and knowledge. And it’s unfortunate for him that the only reason teams won’t take him that high is because he doesn’t fit the prototypical build and sature of an NBA point guard.

Color me crazy, but I would take him in the first round right now.  Dude plays with a ton of heart and no fear.  I would love him as a backup PG on my team.  I think he will be a high level backup PG.

i dont see him being a lottery pick at all.but late 1st to mid 2nd round, sounds more like it.i think he’s a better version of flip pressey.

ulis’s is an outstanding playmaker, great competitor and pesky defender.thats a joy to watch when he’s on his game.

I liked his game last year.  I think he ran the team well and I liked his speed and energy.

Maybe that Kentucky team didn’t utilize their talent well enough.

Maybe they should have gone with Ulis and Andrew Harrison in the backcourt.  Aaron Harrison at the 3.  KAT at the 4 but shooting more outside shots and 3’s opening up the paint for WCS.  I think WCS and Towns got in each other’s way a bit last year.

Then use Devin Booker as a 6th man.

Didn’t watch the game last night, but they won, beating a very good team.

This might be Kentucky’s Redeem Team.

I’ve been following Tyler Ulis since high school. Seeing him flourish last year at Kentucky was great, so I have high hopes for him this season. So far, he hasn’t disappointed! He takes care of the ball and doesn’t shy away from big moments. He’s a general out there and moves like he’s on skates. His on-ball defense is excellent. With the way that he plays, him being 5’9 is almost irrelavant in regards to the next level. ALMOST. I would definitely take him in the first round, as long as he continues to become a more reliable shooter.

At the next level, I see him as a pre-injury TJ Ford.

He is the complete opposite of T.J Ford- T.J was a scoring guard who turned the ball over at an insane rate, he had a terrible Assist/Turnover ratio pre injuries. Nothing a like at all

I also am a Tyler Ulis fan for all of the reasons listed above.  He also seems like a positive guy who would be a great locker room presence.  If I were an NBA GM I would use a late first round pick on him.  If I got lucky and got him in the second round, I would be very happy.

The kid is very skilled, has good pacing and changes his speed easily, can shoot the long ball, has a very tight handle, takes care of the ball, is a good decision-maker, and even scraps down low for rebounds against bigs.  He is an energy player who pesters on defense.  On top of all of that, it was obvious during the Duke game that he leads his teammates and commands the respect of his team.

That said, will he be a first round pick?  I think that if he leads Kentucky to a championship, he will move into first round discussions.  Can you imagine if this kid had Andrew Harrison size?  He would be high lottery material.

I would take him in the lotto if he were 6’0”-6’1”. He has the skillset to be a starter in the league even with his short size.
