TallmanNYCParticipantI’ve been feeling these two players are going to be busts. They have something in common in that they look like monster athletes while playing in Europe but many years into being professionals they still have serious holes in their game. I’m going to go on record as saying that neither Biyombo or Vesely will be good starting NBA players. They may start some games as coaches wait for them to learn the game. Biyombo really causes me concern. Who cares how old he is. He has been playing professional basketball full time for four years and he still can’t hit a 5 foot jump shot. Sure he will block shots. That is nice, but so does Birdman Chris Andersen. They both basically project to that level of player to me. Marginal starters at best. Vesely at least has developed some sort of shot, though from the highlights it is just standstill three pointers from Euro range.
Anyone else want to go on record and call out a bust from the top ten picks?

TimbosliceParticipantI’ll get killed for this, but I think Derrick Williams will be a bust. I think he can be a good player but people seem to think he’s a cornerstone of a franchise type player and I just don’t see it. As far as biyombo, I don’t think he’ll be a bust just because I think he’s projected to be a Ben wallace type player… Doesn’t score but a defensive monster. As long as he blocks shots and rebounds he’ll fulfill his potential

JimmeredYaWabafetParticipantJan Vesely, really hope Biyombo does well and turns out to be something. Hopefully he doesnt exceed my expectations for him cuz i would be hella pissed at the Kings organization for trading the type of player that fits their team needs for a guy who doesnt at all.

WizardofOzParticipantVesely does have some bust potential, but he’s been growing on me ever since he was drafted by thie Wiz. I don’t think he’ll ever be a shot creator, but he hustles, and will be able to score on garbage buckets using his length and hustle. I also think he can develop a reliabe 3-point shot. He’s not a good shooter right now, but his mechanics look pretty good. And he’ll be great in transition. I think he becomes your classic 3&D SF that can make 3’s and plays solid defense.
I think the player most likely to bust is Biyombo, but he could easlity prove me wrong and become a defensive force for a team.

Johnny ChillI think both of them will be bust, considering how high they were drafted.

surveParticipantthe guy that stands out to me is Vesely, no doubt about it, I just dont see why he is so highly ranked. I am not sold on Marcus Morris, depends on what you call a bust…he will be in the league for a while but I think he may be mediocre. Also, I think Darius Morris has a lot to improve or he will be a free agent before long.

OllstarParticipantkemba and bismack. thats a bold prediction because for so many reasons they should show production. but think about it and you’ll find alot of reasons why they might be busts.

BasketballGuru24ParticipantWouldn’t be surprised if derrick williams is a bust. Dude expects to pay small forward when he doesn’t possess any of the skills of a small forward.

iguapops420ParticipantTristan. He’ll have a good career, but nothing near worthy of the 4th pick. I’m not even sure he’s ever goin to be a starter IMO.

Hoops MaestroParticipantI see bust potential for Jonas Valanciunas and Bismack Biyombo. Biyombo will no doubt stick in the league, but the 7th pick is too high for a hustle guy.
I think Vesely is ready to play in the NBA already, from the highlights. Kanter will take some time to develop, but should be fine.

TallmanNYCParticipantI see a lot of problems with how people describe these guys. Some people described Biyombo as a "Ben Wallace Type". First of all, that isn’t a type. There is only one short no offense center in the modern era who was all-star caliber. Ben Wallace was a unique player, he isn’t a "type". Tyson Chandler is a type. There have been plenty of really tall centers in the NBA who have brought defense and that has been enough. But short ones, not so much. In the case of Biyombo, short and kind of skinny. He looks much much weaker than Ben Wallace and that might mean that centers who have 40 pounds on him might be able to go right at him.
Vesely also has me worried. Wizard of Oz is hoping he becomes a 3&D small forward. He seems to skinny to defend the post against big guys and he doesn’t show any mid-range moves or post moves yet. So that seems to be the only option for Vesely to be a full time starter. But consider that not a lot of Europeans have come over and been even average at defense much less been so good that D is their thing. And hoping that a guy who shoots 45% from free throws becomes a legit NBA 3PT threat also worries me. Though somehow Vesely shoots around 35% from Euro three, so maybe there is potential there.
I just wonder if these guys would be considered so crazy athletic if they had played in the U.S. college games and all they have is athletisim at this point.

B-ball fanParticipantI really don’t see the problem with his height, he is long and his standing reach is high. You don’t block shots with your head. Biyombo isn’t undersized, his standing reach is a tenth of an inch shorter than Dwight Howard’s.
I see bust potential in Brandon Knight and Jan Vesely. Knight was unproductive in college, is a poor pick and roll player, and has some physical limitations. I just don’t see his game translating to the NBA. I think that people overrated his shooting ability. He is known for his work ethic, so it may improve, but he has a low release point and struggled to gain separation from college defenders, and didn’t put up great numbers in college. There is also no guarantee he will ever become a great play maker.
In Vesely, he just seems like a classic tweener. If he was a good rebounder, than I could see him being a great 4, but I don’t think he has the skills to be a starting 3. He isn’t a great shooter and ball handler, and a player his height will struggle with perimeter defense. I hope he does well, though, because he seems like a great transition player to fit with John Wall.

dolla130Participantthe reason why i say alec burk and derrick williams is
1. berk cant shoot and being sg in the nba should be able to shoot at least a lil and then you have the people who try to compare him to dwayne wade and i hate when people college sg to him that cant really shoot and could get 2 the basket randy foye comes to mind a very ovverrated player comming out of college and he was a bust and im not saying burk will have a bad nba career but he wont live up to the comparison or the expectations of being the next dwayne wade because d.wade has something neither he nore foye have and that is elite speed and leaping ability and thats the one thing wade had comming out of college even tho he couldn’t shoot
2.now from williams i see more borderline all star then superstar he wants to play the 3 and he cant he has no playmaking skills, he is an ok rebounder cant defend and is a ok shooter that standing jumper is not gonna work in the nba, cant handle the ball and i think nba 3s will torch him and expose him and to me he reminds me of jj hickson

ryan27ParticipantEnes Kanter: I’ve never seen him play. Everybody knows that players improve by getting game time and playing in competetive games, but he just hasnt played in an real games in a couple of years now- I have to think that is bad for his development. Sure, he could turn out okay, but that is a huge risk for a guy that just got drafted 3rd overall.

lukestine13ParticipantEnes got experience practicing with Kentucky and destroyed sullinger at the nike hoop summit.
Burks has a good mid range game and working with jeff hornacek will only make him a better shooter. Also Hayward only shot 29% from the three in his last year at college and in the nba he was over 40% no doubt due to working with Hornacek.

TallmanNYCParticipantResurecting this old thread. It got me a lot negs but so far Vesely has been a non-entity. I don’t think I’ve even seen a highlight of him dunking yet.
Biyombo hasn’t been great, but it looks like the athleticism is really there. The shot blocking is really good. I haven’t really caught much of his game play though because I don’t exactly linger on Bobcat games very long and he doesn’t play much.
Look over the rest of this thread and see how your predictions are turning out.
