I believe I just read the dumbest thing I’ve seen this year. This Cleveland blogger/writer said this on twitter (https://twitter.com/CLEsportsTalk/status/649973171291090944). He/some in his mentions comparing how overpaid athletes are and the fact other people that work for $9/hour and how they work harder.

First off, I do believe Tristian Thompson is worth $92M, I just don’t believe he’s as good as that contract and he should not make more than John Wall. But, I can’t get mad a Tristian Thompson for trying to get as much money as he can. We all want to make as much money as this can in this country. It’s a capitalism country and we all want to cash in as much as possible. Yes, he is being greedy and selfish right now. But, would I do the same thing if I were in his shoes? Heck yeah. That’s why I’m not getting on him for trying to make as much money as he can, because everyone would want as much money as they can get.

I said this “Athletes are overpaid” thing is getting really old and I’m sick of seeing this topic because that you are worth as much as someone willing to pay you. Also, fans give the athletes the money, so if you do believe that athletes are overpaid then stop buying the league pass, stop buying, jersey’s/shoes/etc…, and stop going to games. They would not make as much money as you like them to make if you do not watch them play any games. And the comparison to someone that have a regular job is crazy because people do not pay to watch you do your job, nobody is buying your merchandise, and nobody wants the shoes you have on your feet.

I also have fascination on why most fans and critics always saying the owners should be paid more, while the players should be paid less. It’s fascinating because fans are not watching the owner jump. I also believe that’s why a lot of people are fascinated in college football and college basketball because they like it when the owners(NCAA) get the large majority of the money being profited. People like the owners profit, not workers. I just find it so funny.

Good post but was a bit confusing in the begining. Do you or don’t you think he is worth that max contract?

In the new CBA I believe he’s worth about 5/60-70 million. I’m just not mad at him for being selfish with his money

He’s not worth the max but it seems like Cleveland disrespected him. Andy Varejao stated that Cleveland did the same thing to him during his contract negotiations leading to him making a firm stance on his personal value. Its not like these guys don’t have value plenty of teams would love to have Tristan’s services. Whether or not he truly sees himself as a max guy or not defeats the purpose after you did disacknowledge a mans integrity. I’m just surprised he didn’t go the Monroe route and sign for the qualifying offer.

Now he lost leverage, he can’t sign the QO. So if he doesn’t sign with the cavs he has to sit out a whole year and this process starts over again. He should just take the $80 million because now he is risking losing 2 years to this and possibly making 7 million next year on the QO. The cavs have the trade exception from haywood for $10 million and a first round pick they could use to go get someone like zach lowe said maybe markieff morris or ed davis. both making about 7 to 8 million for the next 3 to 4 years. They are close to thompsons level and for half the price if either team would do it, it would make sense for the cavs, even if they had to throw in the rights to cedi osman with the first round pick. Then thompson is basically stuck sitting out this year with no pay with a lockout looming in 2017.

The Cavs used up their 5 year rookie exception on Kyrie Irving I thought, so I assume they can only give Thompson a 4 year max deal unless he takes a one year deal and tries for a 5 year deal next summer.

No other teams managed to get Thompson to sign an offer sheet this summer as I guess they thought Cleveland would match.

I believe that only Portland or Philly have room to sign him. I don’t see Philly doing it but Portland might just take a punt on him perhaps.

If I was Thompson, I’d have taken a 4 year deal and wanted a player option next summer to keep things open. That way he can opt in if his stock hasn’t risen or he can opt out if he thinks he can get a better deal elsewhere.

the 5 year rookie exception is for giving a contract the year before, which means he couldn’t have signed a 5 year deal last year, this year he can.

he should have taken the money, what other team is dumb enough to pay this guy a max deal… he’s a rebounder, that’s pretty much it. yeah they should use their trade exception and get a cheaper guy to do the dirty work.. Varejao is coming back and they want to assert love more, so why would you pay this much for a backup..

Let’s be completely honest, Tristan Thompson is not worth anywhere close to the max.  It’s laughable to think he is.  He’s not Lebron, KD or Anthony Davis. He’s a high energy guy who is a monster on the boards.  If Cleveland pays him max money to be a role player, they are idiots.  I don’t dislike Tristan Thompson at all but paying a guy that much money to play his role???  Absolutely insane.

Athletes AND owners are way overpaid. None of them deserve close to what they get. Why? Because fans have to pay for it. I need $200 for a terrible seat at a Laker game. So I’m never going.

Fans should go on strike until they charge reasonable prices. $40 sounds right for general admission. A little more than double a movie. Right now, at an arena, $40 will get me two beers… bad beers. These players are great, they’re why I see the game, and I hope they get a slice of whatever TV package happens, but I don’t think anybody deserves that kind of money when I can’t afford a game.

People should stop making this owners vs. players. This is owners and players vs. fans. And we are not winning.

To Cleveland Power Forward Markieff Morris. Morris has made it known that since they traded his brother Marcus to Detroit his wanted out. This allows him to be closer to his brother in Detroit. His only making 8 million a season and with Cleveland’s TPE they could use it on him. Plus he makes for a great back up forward to Kevin Love.

To Phoenix Power Forward Patrick Patterson and Small Forward Terrence Ross. This gives the Suns a back up big man and a shooting wing. Two things that Phoenix where looking at in the draft and free agents. Sor

To Toronto Power Forward Tristan Thompson. There’s no better place then home. The Raptors have the cap spaceth to sign TT to either the 3 or 5 year contract that he wants. Place with the draft and signing of free agents it allows the Raptors to trade Patterson and Ross. Plus the Raptors have there own draft pick thar could be traded to either the Cavaliers or the Sun.
