A no-brainer since he is a guaranteed lottery pick.  Elite offensive talent led nation in assists and scoring but really dropped off at the end of the year.  Defense and turnovers are big question marks.

It’s easy to find things in question for any athlete. Perfection is rarely found. The fact is that Trae Young’s abilities will give him an enormous advantage in today’s NBA and if he’s available when Cleveland picks, I couldn’t imagine them passing on him.

Obvious decision after the freshman season he had, even though his efficiency dropped off big time in conference play. He was not surrounded by great talent in college, which you could argue both helped and hurt him. It helped him in the fact that he had the ball in his hands almost all the time and was able to put up unprecedented individual stats but it hurt him in the fact that he was relied on do to much and a lot of the flaws in his game were exposed once defenses were really able to scout and gameplan. It would have been interesting to see how he would have performed at a school with more surrounding talent and where he wasn’t the sole focal point of the offense, because that would likely give a better simulation of what his nba role will be, at least initially.

Young obviously gets compared to curry a lot, but I don’t see him being on Curry’s level as a shooter. He has a similar shooting stroke and range but is not nearly as consistent as curry, even as a college player. I think his playmaking ability might actually be his most useful tool eventually at the next level, more so than scoring. Continuing to add strength, learning to play off the ball, and defense will obviously need to be areas of focus for him at the next level. It’s honestly kind of hard to project him at the next level at this point, but there’s no way he makes it out of the top 10 in this draft.

Young and Booker would be the less disciplined, more crazy version of Curry and Thompson. The could put up 80 in one game to beat a good team, but lose the next against a poor team. They would shoot more 25-35 foot threes than any duo in history.

I like him Cleveland post LeBron era. Tra Young, Jordan Clarkson, Rodney Hood and Larry Nance Jr would be a nice group of young talent to watch grow and mature.

I really question his athleticism and defense Espcially when it comes to dealing with elite nba pg night in night out. But i think he could develop into a real nice PG in 3-4 yrs

I think he is going to bomb out of the league.  He showed no ability to run an offense in the half court.  He will not be able to beat defenses in the NBA and will not be chucking that amount of threes without playing defense.  I would not be surprised to see him drop out of the top 12.  Further more a core of Clarkson, Hood, Young and Nance is straight booty juice.

Orlando and Memphis make the most sense, depending on how the lottery goes.

Knicks and Orlando need 3pt shooting. Trae young fits the bill.   Memphis will have the oppotunity to pick ayton or duncic. The other lottery teams  have point guards already or are picking higher where they can get a surer thing.

The Suns should be hoping to get him. Trae Young, Booker and Jackson sound like Steph, Klay and Draymond

I doubt he will be as good as Steph, but when you think about how Steph has revolutionized the game, it’s pretty tempting to take a gamble on the first college player who’s legitimately earned the comparison.

I would probably take Ayton before him, and would consider taking Bagley or Porter before him, but after that I think he’s the obvious choice.

Trae is an interesting one, been as high as two on the mocks when the next Steph Curry hype was in full effect. If he reaches Steph levels or not, he still has elite shooting ability which I agree I don’t see the Cavs passing on and going in there if LBJ stays he’s on a contending team, will get free shots. He’ll have LBJ, K-Love etc to mentor him plus Kyle Korver one of the great modern shooters will be around him.

Where he will go as always will depend on how the lottery balls fall and relative team needs. The top of the draft is more big centric even if Porter is mainly an SF. Teams looking at Doncic will also likely look at Trae.

As a Phoenix fan I’d love him alongside Booker but we may have to pass on a few guys to take him. But if that pick fell to say 4 then he could be a legit option. The Magic also seem to need that star quality and if they miss out on one of the top couple of bigs might have a good look at him.

With Dallas I just think him and Smith may be a bit too similar although it would be fun to watch.

The Knicks are my dark horse to take him. MSG is begging for a superstar and Trae’s shooting could just give them that. Plus when Porz returns it helps to spread the court.

Overall, I think we are closer to the END of small ball than the beginning.

Even then, I think Trae Young might have a little less upside than Steph.  Not quite as big. Not quite as long. Not quite as quick. Although probably a better passer (at least when comparing freshman skill sets).

More than likely, ends up as a cross between Chris Jackson and Steph Curry.  Could be the Cavs’ new Mark Price if he falls a bit and if LeBron resigns.  If LBJ stays then Trae could help right away.

If not, yeah, I like the Knicks, too.  Could have a killer pick and roll/pick and pop with Porzingas.

Another "face" of the franchise. Will sell tix.

Suns will probably end up in the top 3. I think that is a little too high to take Trae Young.

He’s a better pick in the 5-10 range, and if he falls past 8 then he is a STEAL.

I would rather have SIZE going forward — I think Bamba is THE guy to get as he sets up your defense for 10 plus years.  I think he is a combo of Dikembe Mutombo and Dennis Rodman.  So, even if he never scores that much or gets much of a refined post game then he can still be a great player and a winner.  ALTHOUGH don’t rule out a replacement level 3 point shot (for a center) and a replacement level jump hook and mid-range fadeaway jumper.

Ayton: upside — at least on offense and he also gives you rebounds.  To me, he is a 7 foot Karl Malone. Center-wise he is somewhere between a healthy Greg Oden, Patrick Ewing, and Robert Parish.

Bagley III has upside as does Jaren Jackson Jr.

Wow, you know, other than Bamba or Ayton (although twin towers lineups sound great on paper but they don’t always turn out well), I like Luka Doncic for the Knicks.  The Knicks have always needed a Bird type guy or a Magic type guy, and Doncic could be that guy for them.  They have Porzingas as the big, some other guys, and the guard they took last year. Doncic might be the IDEAL pick for New York.

Doncic-Porzingas could be the best pick and roll in the league.

He might be a guy you should trade up to get.

Why do you think small ball is ending?

More and more big guys are really athletic and have outside shots. I imagine most teams will continue playing one traditional big man along with 4 players with perimeter skills. I can imagine teams with large lineups similar to the 76ers starting lineup, but I doubt the demise of small ball lineups will happen anytime soon.

The end of small ball will be when bigger players consistently take smaller ones in the post. The end of small ball will be when outside players can make a half-way decent post entry pass. The end of small ball will be when NBA teams bring back quick high-low passes.

Right now, small ball works because skill trumps size, every time. However, if skill is equal, size will tip the balance.

Just curious, why would anyone take a "combo of Dikembe Mutombo and Dennis Rodman" over "a healthy Greg Oden, Patrick Ewing, and Robert Parish?"

He looks more like a back up point to me. I think his best, long shot, he-better-really-work-hard-to-get-to-this-level is Jamal Crawford. At BEST.
