Rondo is clearly a proven player in the league and is definitely in the top tier as far as PG’s today. Watching the Celtics the last couple of games (I’m watching them play the Pistons right now)…Rondo’s been showin out. It’s no coincidence the Celtics have been pushing the ball alot more and thus allowing Rondo to shine and fully show what he can do. If he can make guys like Chris Wilcox and JaJuan Johnson running the fast break look good imagine what he could do in an offense with more capable big guys that can run. i wish the C’s made a trade to get some guys to run with him but I know its more likely they trade him. I think its really a matter of personell for Rajon, he seems trapped right now with the Celtics. I really wish he could be shipped out to a team that ran the ball…literally any team and i think you’d see him put up a near triple double every night. I think the Lakers or any other team would be smart to snag him before the deadline….where do you guys think Rondo would fit in best at?

The C’s aren’t trading Rondo, they aren’t in a good rebuilding position at the moment, their best bet is to hope that they draw a relatively easy matchup in round one(Dwight-less Magic?), Someone gets hot in the second round and carries them to the Conference Finals, hope say a Philly or an Indiana upset a Miami or Chicago, and just ride on the momentum like its 2010 all over again.

I think jaycee isn’t saying that the Celtics should want to trade Rondo but instead that he could be used a more effectively by another team that runs a up and down offense.. I’m inclined to agree with him too.. The Celtics wouldn’t dare trade him but for his sake getting out of town wouldn’t be the worst thing for him…

They should look to trade some of the other "Big 3" guys before they think about dealing Rondo

I’m not sayin it’d be smart on their part….but if their front office really wants to push to win another championship with the Big 3 I don’t think THEY believe Rondo includes that. I don’t think Rondo for Gasol straight up is in any way good for Boston but I’m not sure that’s what they plan to do. But think if they remain with the current team you have Pierce steadily declining for another 3 years along with a bunch of role players.  A roster like that screams mediocrity like right now rather than a power in the east like they’ve been in years past. Trade him, blow it up and start from scratch if they don’t feel like they should move the Big 3. And what I’m saying is Rondo needs to be on a team where he can run and play with guys like Amare or BG or even Tyson Chandler….or even more athletic players in general because watching him the last couple games he definitely thrives in the fast pace offense

For the people acting like the Celtics wouldn’t trade Rondo, just think back… Ainge has already tried to trade him. He was highly critical of Rondo before Rondo’s extension.

Word was the Pacers were going after him before the season.

I think he can be had for the right price.

@aamir I’m just curious why you say they aren’t in a good rebuilding position? They have (barring a future trade) close to 40m coming off the books at season’s end, two mid 1st round draft picks in their possession, a ‘possible’ return of young stud Jeff Green, and Doc Rivers already signed to an extension along with Rondo.

Jae Evolution, Well, there is a difference between "rebuilding" and "retooling". The cap space gives them a great chance to reup without missing a beat while being competitive until the time comes.

Rebuilding would imply blowing everything up, meaing letting all of the big three walk, and then going from there.

Reuping or retooling would be their best bet, but all I was trying to say was that if they went into next season with say Rondo, Green, Tyler Zeller and another mid first round guy, than they wouldn’t be good enough to contend, but with Rondo there, they wouldn’t suck enough to tank the next two or three seasons.

But they are in a good position to play out the season, get Allen and Garnett to take a massive paycut, and go from there. The future is bright, but all I was trying to say is that rebuilding is somthing entirely different.

Rondo should not be traded, he’s going to be a leader for this Celtics team for years to come, and will help get the most out of Green and whoever they nab with their first round picks this season. If they draft well this year and retain the Big 3 for smaller salaries they might not even need to bottom out to contend again, instead nurturing their young guys until they are ready to take over.

I’m a Celtics fan, Rondo is my favourite player in the NBA and he doesn’t need to leave, nor should he want to. There aren’t too many places where you’ll get a coach as good as Rivers who believes in you.

Rondo is by far the best player on the Celtics and has been for the past 2 seasons.  Pierce, Garnett, and Allen are all old and sluggish.  Sure, they are definite Hall of Famers, but they don’t go out and put up 25 points a game like they used to whenever they were a younger group of guys.

Rondo is still very young, and if you’re team is struggling with veterans, you obviously need to build around a younger team.  Rondo is that team.  Allen, Garnett, Pierce, and Jermaine O’Neal are all guys who you could get a some young potential out of, which Boston will need.

So in my opinion, if you are looking ahead to the future, you try trading the core of guys you tried to build around in 2008 and you start fresh with some young, promising talent.  Rondo himself can turn a lot of 15 PPG scorers into a 20 PPG scorer simply because of some of the insane passes Rondo can pull off.  Boston needs a high energy, lob catching player who is young and still developing his game.

Kenneth Faried from Denver comes to mind.  Faried is a guy who goes 120% on every play, rebounds and defends very well for being an undersized PF, and can dunk the ball with his incredible leap and athleticism.  He and Rondo could make a dynamic future lob duo in Boston, kind of like Chris Paul and Blake Griffin are new over in L.A.  On a side note, Faried’s willingness to play defense will only help him get playing time as Doc Rivers prides himself on watching his team play stellar defense.

Now that I think about it, Rondo and Faried have played together.  They played in a pick up game/tournament over the summer.  For those who think there would not be a connection between these two, take a look at this!

Yeah,Ainge have talked about trading Rondo several times and criticized him in public a few times..So i wouldnt be surprised if he finally did trade him….Word has it that he and Rondo still is upset with Ainge for bad mouthing him to the media…And the Boston media has constantly reported on Rondo’s childlike attitude..But some have said he has matured a little since his rookie year..

There is reports in Cali this week, that the Celtics & Warriors have been talking about a Rondo deal involving Curry & David Lee..

Rondo is an elite point guard, but he has too many holes to be your best player…Rondo is a great complimentary player,if you already have a guy thats better than him….So i say trade Pierce while you can,out of the so called big 3,he might be the only 1 that can bring in a young star….

Wha sense would it make to trade Rondo? That’s dumb he’s the future of that team. The Big 3 are nearing the end of their run and have expiring contracts that would benefit a lot of teams.

If anything trade Jermaine O’Neal’s expiring contract for Anderson Varejo…a definite upgrade and the guy hustles

nothing of the such has been heard out here in the bay, if you got that from bleacherreport please check your IQ. We got offered Rondo for Steph during the CP3 mess cause Boston planned on flipping Curry for CP3 w/o an extension while we wouldnt flip Curry for CP3 w/o an extension. That is where that rumor orginiated , and the FO loves Lee to death
