a few trade ideas that i think are interesting:

    trade 1: http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=3n7mbj4

aslo chi has to give det a first rounder

Chi gets an excellent running mate for rose, a better back up point guard and a back up 4 that can stretch the floor. they also make more room for taj to develop his game and get some pt.

warriors get a beast front court of boozer, lee and udoh, an off ball scorer and pargo to play some back up pg minutes

detroit gets rid of a couple of bad contracts, picks up a first rounder, clears room in the back court, and picks up an athletic 7 footer.

props to symbol for that one, let me know what you think.

    trade 2: http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=3pabyc7

pheonix gets a second round pick also

Atlanta gets a legit starting center and more depth in the post.

Pheonix gets a beast power forward. who knows how good smith could be if nash is setting him up? they also get a draft pick.

    trade 3 http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=43rbbkl

minny gets a pure go to scorer and a true shooting guard while making room for williams.

memphis get insurance on both gay and randolph while getting bigger and more dangerous

Sorry man but I can’t agree with any of them IMO.

1st trade = very complicated but the biggest thing I see is that the Bulls give up some of their height for a very fast but UNDERSIZED backcourt. And neither Rose or Ellis are tremendous defenders so that would be problematic in the long run. And I don’t know how the Warriors can play both Lee and Boozer who are almost the same players in terms of production and are also bad low post defenders. And then you replace a young 25 ppg undersized 2 guard with a older 20 ppg scorer. Doesn’t really make sense either.   Pistons get rid of 2 horrible contracts which is good but they give up 30 ppgs for two players who will struggle to score. Not sure if that’s a good idea as well

2nd trade = Not horrible but let me ask you this. Gortat was a proven double double machine in PHX because of Nash. He is their center of the future and they have him locked at a reasonable price. They drafted Morris who can be a good role player but he is not going to be averaging 10 and 10 anytime soon. And Robin Lopez seems to always be hurt so I wouldn’t trust that for PHX who already have weak big men. Josh Smith would flourish but the Suns are giving up a very valuable piece.

3rd trade = Mayo could work in Minny perfectly. Unfortunately, Beasley will get 8 minutes a game probably with Zach Randolph, Rudy Gay, Shane Battier, Sam Young and Darrell Athur eating up all the minutes. There is just no room for Beasley in Memphis

Trade # 3 does not really have good enuf reason behind it to happen. D-Will-I-Ams said he’s ok for now with his role, but plans on putting in work to try to get the starting job. and i think with Wes Johnson having 1 year at SG already will help him for next season.

    # 1 trade idea- i think the Pistons need to maybe get one more ok player back in the trade or wouldn’t happen

    # 2 trade… the Hawks would have to give up one of there role centers and i see it being possible maybe

Has everyone lost their marbles? Josh Smith for Gortat and Warrick. You better up the pot from PHX IMO. A 10 and 10 center on a fast paced team isn’t quit enough for SMith IMO. Better through in Morris and Brooks IMO. Perhaps even a first.

If you’re trying to make a deal like that with those basic pieces as bulding blocks, try Gortat,Dudley(shooter),Morris and a future1 for Smith, ZAZA.

You my even flip Teague and Brooks IMO.

I disagree with those trades, really makes no sense. however, about the Josh Smith comment above, Atlanta is pretty much willing to give him away. there are better options, but if we are still saying to Phoenix, Smith for Robin Lopez, Dudley, and unprotected ’12 first rounder may make it happen. Suns are not moving Gortat! Lopez fills a need for a true center in Atlanta. Dudley is a very good sf as well, and a potential lotto pick in this draft would be awesome. again, there are better options out there, but Atlanta 1, is tied of J Smooth’s attitude and 2-wants to shed salary with their pending sale.
What I would love for them to do is to give them Joe Johnson and his contract for Vince Carter’s expiring one. Fans here in Atlanta will riot, but this team needs to be rebuilt.

I actually like the 1st trade for the Bulls.  If the Bulls can get Monta Ellis AND get rid of Carlos Boozer at the same time then it is worth the risk.  A Rose-Ellis backcourt would be unstoppable then they still have Deng as a third scorer, with Noah as a good center and Taj Gibson as a decent role playing power forward (think of a younger version of Udonis Haslem).  If I were the Bulls I would throw in Bogans or Brewer and a future first rounder to get it done.  … that is probably all they need to do.  They would have a superstar point guard, an all-star caliber shooting guard, a borderline all-star center (in today’s NBA) in Noah and some solid role players around them in Gibson, Korver, Asik, and either Bogans or Brewer.

I like the second trade ok.  Not sure that trading Josh Smith is the right thing to do for the Hawks.  I like Gortat but I am not sure he makes them a better team.  If I were the Hawks I might consider trading Al Horford (who has more trade value) and try to get a center like Dwight Howard or Andrew Bynum.  I like Horford ok but I feel that he is somewhat overrated.  To me, he is a secondary guy like Luol Deng, and if the Hawks can package him to get a legit center then I think they should do it.  If I were the Hawks I would offer Al Horford and draft picks to the Suns for Steve Nash and Marcin Gortat.  Nash gets to go do a contender and the Suns can rebuild around Horford.

    The Hawks would then start:

    PG:  Steve Nash

    SG:  Joe Johnson

    SF:   Marvin Williams

    PF:    Josh Smith

    C:       Marcin Gortat

Then they would bring Teague, Jamal Crawford, and Pachulia/Collins off the bench.

The Suns could then build around a Horford, Frye, Morris, and Jared Dudley front line along with Aaron Brooks at point guard and a bunch of draft picks.

I like the third trade for Memphis somewhat.  I think B Easy would be a good forward off the bench who could provide enough scoring to be an ideal 6th man and he could grab a few rebounds to go along with Darrell Arthur.  I like Tony Allen as a starter, and if the Grizzlies traded OJ that would free up some space at the guard/small forward positions.  Beasley would help fill a void if Shane Battier doesn’t come back and Josh Selby and Xavier Henry (along with Sam Young) could fill the scoring void at the backup 2.  Or, the Grizzlies could start Xavier Henry utilizing his size, solid athletcism and solid outside shooting (hopefully) then bring a great second unit off the bench with a five man rotation that could turn out to be D.A.  as an undersized center, B Easy at the 4, then a three guard rotation with Vazquez (point guard, primary ball handler), Tony Allen (defensive stopper, veteran, energy, can handle the ball some), and Josh Selby as the backcourt scorer and an emergency point guard.  Then they could bring Haddadi in as a center or Sam Young as a 2/3 off the bench in spot minutes.  I really like OJ Mayo as a scoring sixth man similar to Jason Terry or Jamal Crawford, but if we aren’t going to resign him then we need to get as much as we can for him.   … For the T Wolves B Easy could be an odd man out with Love, Williams, and Randolph being the 3 forward rotation.  So OJ would be the backcourt scorer that they need.  But, I like him more off the bench, especially since Rubio isn’t that fast or athletic either.  I don’t think OJ is big enough or quick enough to be an all-star type starter.  But, I think he can be a super-sub that could put a contender over the top.  However, if the T Wolves started OJ then that would give them 3 good passers in the starting lineup in Rubio, OJ, and Love.  I think that OJ has to be THE MAN on offense.  I think he plays better the more the offense is run through him.  I think that that could work in Minnesota since Derrick Williams is more of a finisher than a creator and Rubio is a pass first guy and not really a scorer.  Kevin Love gets points but is more of a secondary option on offense.  This would be an intriguing trade for both teams and could really work.  I think it would work if B Easy could come off the bench in Memphis and if Henry/Selby/Young could replace OJ’s scoring off the bench.  In Minny, OJ would be a good sixth man or they need to hope that OJ keeps improving on defense so they can start him and using him as a focal point on offense.

1st trade I don’t think is good for Golden State. They now have 2 over-payed PF’s, none of which are really effective at the 5, and they deal for Gordon who’s another udneriszed 2. The whole point of dealing Monta is to make them better defensively, and Gordon definitely doesn’t do that for them.

The 3rd deal is good for Minny, but like somone else said above, there’s too much traffic at the 3 and 4 spots in Memphis for Beasely to be effective.

The 2nd, trade however, I think you’re really on to something there. PHX gets a young, exciting, and athletic stud in Josh Smith, who could live off the pick and roll with nash or brooks, whoever’s running the show.

For Atlanta, this deal could really put them over the top even though it does look kind of minor. It would allow Horford to move to the 4, his natural position, and concentrate more on scoring in the post. Gortat would be the starting 5 with Pachulia behind him, creating a nice defensive tandem at the 5 spot. Collins would most likely be gone. Warrick would be a quality athletic back-up behind Horford. The Hawks could then sign Crawford to a new deal, then sign Tayshawn Prince to the maximum MLE.

    Hinrich-Teague

    Johnson-Crawford

    Prince-Williams

    Horford-Warrick

    Gortat-Pachulia

Pretty good line-up if you ask me. I think this deal is very fair for both teams. Well done

Give negatives to me all you want people, ATL may be wanting rid of Smith, but they aren’t going to take justr anybody. Gortat isn’t THAT incredible unless he’s on a team full of chuckers like ORL, and PHX. ATL is going to get back a fair compensation for the guy. It’s not as if there aren’t Kaman type’s still out there and available. Just seems to me Gortat is far too unproven to trade a talent like J-Smooth for. Give me another soid year from Gortat and we’l talk, but not until. And if Gortat is as good as he can be and what everyone thinks of him, PHX more than ikely aren’t giving him up.

BTW, I honestly think Robin Lopez would actually play pretty good beside of Al Horford. Everyone saw what he ws capable of taking it to Bynum and Gasol in 2010 playoffs having Amare beside of him. Imagine what he could do with Horford actually being the main option downlow making terrific passes to a cutting Lopez. Could actualy work SIMILAR to Horford and Noah at Florida.

Have to admit, I didnt realize all the negatives you received, I almost died lol when I read your above posts and then saw the amount :-p

But your undervaluing team chemistry, Smith is a baaaad apple. Talented, but can be a nut case. Your never going to get full value for him, unless its a team with a coach with a lot of rep…think Phil Jackson, Gregg Pop type of cred. A player would have to be foolish to misbehave on their teams. My example above, was only if we were sticking with the Suns. Robin Lopez-Dudley-unprotected ’12 1st rounder would be enough, not equal/fair talentwise, but enough. I like your analogy of Lopez to Noah, I think Lopez, AT BEST, is a poor man’s Noah. About Kaman, I always liked Kaman and has been telling Hawks fans (I live in ATL) that he’s a perfect fit for them, but Ive heard rumors of Kaman for Iggy and Kaman for Granger (Kaman to Houston, Kev Martin to Indy, Granger to Clips). If either is correct, I think Clips would rather having either Iggy or Granger over Smith for the simple fact they can spread for the floors with their outside shots.

I think if the hawks were offered this deal, they’d jump all over it. Gortat is MUCH younger than Kaman, and he has great contract value, meaning he has a lot of years left on a cheap deal for a starting caliber center. Kaman isn’t a great defender, and is old and only has a year left on his deal, plus the offense is going to go through Joe Johnson, Jamal Crawford, and Al Horford, so another offensive threat is really unnecessary. They need a guy to do the dirty work inside, and Gortat would do great at that. Also, ATL could pry Jared Dudley away, who’d be a nice guy to have in the rotation.

Great idea, IMO. Beneficial for both sides

Bobby, I like you man, you did once say you wanted me to be an editor for your basketball site, but these trades are pretty bad. I understand you posted them before Memphis Madness posted his, but how is a Chicago first round pick that intriguing? Answer is, it isn’t. I totally understand why the Bulls would do the first trade, have no idea why the other teams would participate. I would rather have the bad contract of Charlie Villaneuva than the bad contract of Andris Biedrins.

If I were Atlanta, I would set my sights higher than Marcin Gortat. He is not a bad player, but I do not think he is that much of an impact Center, not to mention that Hakim Warrick gives you little depth. The 2nd rounder, again, means little to nothing. Finally, I have no idea why the straight up trade for Beasley would be good for Memphis. I think they can get more for Mayo than just that, and they would have more than likely done so had the McRoberts and first round pick trade went through (15th pick, which is not that bad). I think you take Beasley at your own risk, and I believe Mayo has more to offer than Beasley, especially on the defensive end. They both have attitude questions, but I think Mayo’s future is much brighter. Personally, not a fan of any of these trades.

^^^Exactly, everyone is taking numbers on a team lacking ANY interior presence and a lot of rebounding opportunities as IMPACT ball. I get negatives for that comment and I honestly am enjoying them, knowing the reasoning behind it. You don’t have to get rid of Smith to get a guy ike Lopez who IMO isn’t that less of a player than Gortat. Gortat is OVERRATED. And I’ve never read anywhere that Smith is a headcase. Lazy sometimes, yes, but most certainly not a headcase. If anyone on that team needs to have the firesale pulled on them, it needs to be Joe Johnson, as HE"S the guy who’s allowing this team to stay mediocre.

Hell, trade Smith to Washington if you’re wanting a no impact double double with 2 blocks in McGhee. Gortat is not the evel of player that Smith is. Chemistry aside (which I’ve never heard that ATL players have issues with Smith), you hold a player like Smith for a later date. This is after all a guy who could potentially be a KG type defensively for a team. Thank you MikeyV, you are again a voice of reason.

Yeah man I really enjoy reading what you have to say and you always write in good detail with original ideas. I was out of the country for about six months so I had forgotten about that. if you have any interest in starting a website I could do the site construction and maintenance. That would be pretty awesome. my email is [email protected] if you have any ideas about it.

Let me say that I never thought that any of these trades were perfect, I just enjoy coming up with trade ideas and also enjoy hearing your guys critiques. Now to defend my trades, or at least try…

Chicago. Montas lack of defense wouldnt kill them because they would still have brewer and deng. They are not getting smaller because they are getting villenueva who is just as big as boozer.

Golden State. Lee plays fine at the center and he went 17 and 10 last year while boozer went 18 and 10 in the regular season, that is a beast front court if you factor in ekpe udoh coming back from injury. Ben gordons numbers per minute last year did not go down, and you dont need him to score a ton anyway as boozer and curry will both take on some of the scoring.

Detroit. The biggest concern for detroit right now should be shedding contracts, that is exactly what this trade does. They are not going to reach the playoffs and the players they are losing in this trade will not be a key part of their future. yes they do have to take on biedrins but they are getting rid of both gordons and villenuevas. Also biedrins is a better partner for monroe than villenueva IMO. Any draft picks they can get are awesome when considering that next years draft is stacked.

Atlanta. This team has been lacking size for a long time and the combo of smith and horford isnt going to get them out of the first round again in the east. they need a legit center. I’m high on gortat because he is young talanted and has a nice contract. I think that having gortat, zaza, horford, and warrick gives them the size they need to get back into the elite in the east.

Phoenix. I cant think of a better replacement to step in for the whole that amare left than josh smith. They dont seem to want to rebuild and trade nash so they might as well get him some players he can work with. they just drafted morris who i see as a career back up and they dont need gortat that bad because they have lopez and frye.

Minnesota. This is a good trade for them in every sense.

Memphis. I think this trade gives them quite a bit of freedom in their line up. It gives them a good deal versatality in their line up and in trading OJ they can get pt for xavier henry as their backup 2. They could play extremely long if they go conley, gay, beasley, randolph, gasol. Or they can go small and quick with conley, allen, gay, beasleym randolph. due to beasley, gay, and randolph being able to play multiple positions this could work out great for them. I dont expect battier to be in memphis next year, and neither young or arthur are good enought to take minutes away from beasley. I see it as them getting bigger and deeper.

flybobbyfly, I actually wouldn’t mind a deal involving Biedrins and Gordon. Make that deal, and you can trade Ellis for Iggy or a player of the like.
