joe2324ParticipantIf your the thunder, do you pull the trigger on Westbrook and just get a bunch of draft picks or do you play this game again with him next year like Durant only to lose out and get nothing in return?

220ParticipantIf I’m Sam Presti I’m asking Russell Westbrook what he wants today and doing my best to make that happen. If it becomes clear Russ is out then Presti has to move him otherwise the Thunder will find themselves back in the lottery soon.

joe2324ParticipantI agree. You can’t play games, too much money being thrown around, too many temptations. You need a solid commitment or else trade him.

negguaryParticipantthis was the best time for durant to do this if I’m okc! Trade Westbrook and maximize the assests you get back, preferably Russell and Ingram via lakers! This also gives you the opportunity to "mini tank", Ima perceived string draft class!

ChewyParticipantIf I’m OKC, my first step would be keeping Waiters. He has always been able to score and they will need him to fill some of the KD scoring. But this playoffs he really impressed me defensively. He can be an above average defender when he puts the effort in. That will give you Westbrook, Payne, Olidipo and Waiters in the back court which is very good and young.
Froncourt has Adams and Kanter and Ilyasova (can McGary ever break through into the rotation?). Your top 2 bigs are young.
All these players are the right age to fit with Westbrook’s prime playing window. But now they are like the Clippers who are very strong but no longer in the top tier and are seriously hurting at the SF position.

so in hindsight, they shouldve known KD was leaving and traded him for Harrison Barnes!

PatrickMurphyParticipantWestbrook to Boston for Bradley, Crowder, Brown and Brooklyn’s swap?
Too much?
0- Posted on: Mon, 07/04/2016 - 6:41am #1079655
220ParticipantI’d say that’s not nearly enough particularly without knowing where Brooklyn’s pick will fall. The worst part for OKC is if they want to trade Westbrook he’s a free agent and that would potentially limit what they can get in return. Most teams would be afraid to deal their best player if they don’t believe they can resign Westbrook.

ChewyParticipantwhere Boston gets Westbrook for 5 years- No that isn’t too much. But if I were Boston, I’d try to keep the Brooklyn pick and give them IT instead. IT and Westbrook can’t play together.

joe2324ParticipantNext year’s draft is point guard heavy so you could trade Westbrook to the Lakers for Ingram and the 2018 and 2019 first round picks. This way you get a prospect, you’ll be in the lottery to land another prospect and then you’ll 2018 and 2019 picks from LA in addition to your own. I say move on from Westbrook if he does not sign a long term committment.
0- Posted on: Mon, 07/04/2016 - 6:57am #1079673
PatrickMurphyParticipantI looked at Westbrook to Lakers centered on Ingram. Problem with Laker picks is that the 2017 is tied up with Philly, so the earliest 1st rounder they could trade is tricky (not allowed to trade two consecutive picks).

joe2324ParticipantIf Westbrook stays, I think OKC still has a very good team with some of the pieces they added. This would allow Westbrook to be the true leader of the team. Everyone thought Portland would be a lottery team after losing Lamarcus, but they were very competitive and have a great future.

220ParticipantIf Westbrook stays they’re still incredibly dangerous. They aren’t really a championship contender at the moment, but they have the pieces to make an upgrade or two.

circumlocution75Participantsign —— they Must trade him b/c they can’t allow Westbrook to walk away & get Nothing like Durant just did.
This is shocking OKC really took it to Golden State in the playoffs —— OKC looks like it will Definitely lose Westbrook too eventually.
This was a team w/ Durant, Westbrook, Harden & Ibaka that Stunned the Spurs in the Western Conf Finals & looked like they would be the Heir apparent to Miami & San Antonio as NBA Champions
It looked like a Dynasty on the Rise in the Summer of 2012 & Ironically Golden State just finished a 23 win season & were a Laughing stock in the League
Just 4 years later Zero championships & it appears they will lose All 4 players. I feel Terrible for OKC & their fans

DolanCareParticipantThe Thunder won’t be able to get value for Westbrook simply because they have no leverage. Westbrook has only one season left on his contract, what team would trade meaningful assets to rent Westbrook for a year, then risk him leaving next season?
This is so unfortunate for the Thunder.

joe2324ParticipantHopefully, OKC learned from this because they should have dumped Durant got some value for him. They’re a small market team and its hard to compete with other markets. Hopefuly, they learn from this and run their team like a small market MLB team such as the rays, royals or A’s

Dell87ParticipantTrading to the Lakers actually doesn’t sound bad and it makes sense.
LA gets Westbrook and Sabonis
Okc gets Russell Ingram and a future first round pick.
Westbrook goes home and Sabonis might be a diamond in the rough
Okc gets Russell who can either play pg/SG. Where he gets a fresh start in a small market.
They get the "new" Durant lol in Ingram
And a potential high first round pick.
Win win for both teams

NZBennyParticipantSabonis would not be a part of that deal. Plus getting Lakers picks in two years is dumb. With Westbrook and a year of lots of cap space in free agency they will be a playoff team, which makes the picks so so much less valuable. When trading a star for picks, you want to trade him to a team that has projected high picks from another team i.e. Bostons Brooklyn pick or phillys Lakers for the 2017 draft.
If we’re trading Westbrook, the return will be massive. The lakers would need to give up Russell, Ingram and 2 draft picks, and tbh probably make it a 3 team deal to get more attractive picks. Remember, the Thunder don’t need to trade, so they will only pull the trigger if it’s a good deal. Love brought back consecutive #1 draft picks (although Bennett wasn’t that valued), so Westbrook is clearly worth at least 2 good picks more.

nill650ParticipantThere is only 1 basketball , but yeah it will make them even better in the half court game , if I were Kerr I would be thrilled I had the options I have now, but the truth is that the strength of that death line up will fade with Durant on the court. So they will have to change adapt and probably abandon the formula that got them the ultimate regular season and the ultimate choke job at the end of the run.

surveParticipantcouldnt agree more, just made a similar post. this winning thing is out of control. of course that is the main objective, but at what cost? if you really break down the careers of Malone and Duncan w/o the rings, Malone could be considered the GOAT PF. but when you put the rings in the conversation….its like Malone can never be better than 2nd place…even though Duncan had tremendous help with those rings from ALL-NBA guys like Admiral and Kawhi. in that regard, cant blame KD just like LBJ had to do what he did. difference is…KD prob will never return to OKC, but Washington would likely be his next destination.

HitsterParticipantBoston have a loaded backcourt so may look to spend their assets on someone who played another position than Westbrook. After that we are struggling to find teams with the sort of assets OKC want – the Lakers could offer Russell and possibly Randle but I think they would want to keep Ingram and they cannot move Clarkson.
The T-Wolves got a great package for K-Love with only one year left sop Presti will have hope of getting a similar deal if Wesbrook is on the trading block.
The issue is team’s won’t give up their future for one year and the Thunder cannot afford to lose Westbrook for nothing.
If I was Presti, I’d sit Westbrook down and say we cannot afford to lose you for nothing please let us know if you are considering moving where you may want to go and think you want out come November/December, we’ll do our best to trade you to a team of choice so we assets back and you can get a killer deal with your preferred destination next summer.

RUDEBOY_Participanti would love to hear the reason why kd left okc.was there a problem with westbrook? did westbrook inform him ,he wasnt returning when he contract was up? was he upset about the ibarka trade? i mean the thunder were up 3-1…and only a game away from going to the finals..its not like the situation lebron was in when he jumped to the heat..his supporting cast looked like a d league roster.. and if u remember kd played a huge part in them losing game 6..

RUDEBOY_Participanti would love to hear the reason why kd left okc.was there a problem with westbrook? did westbrook inform him ,he wasnt returning when he contract was up? was he upset about the ibarka trade? i mean the thunder were up 3-1…and only a game away from going to the finals..its not like the situation lebron was in when he jumped to the heat..his supporting cast looked like a d league roster.. and if u remember kd played a huge part in them losing game 6..

joe2324ParticipantI honestly think Durant wants to be the "bad guy" and the villian like Lebron was in 2010. He sees an opportunity to join a super power and make them literally unstoppable. Of course people are going to root against him and burn his jersey. I think hes loving it. At the very least, this will make things very interesting next season so I think its great for the league.

r377ParticipantWhenever there is a trade or FA to change teams why do kids always say the Lakers ?
NOBODY wants to play for the Lakers…… they are years from making the playoffs and had to overpay FAs just to get them to come to LA.
In the last 50 years only Shaq is a big name who actually signed with Lakers as a FA (40yo Mailman and Glove don’t count), so why do kids always think players would want to go there and not compete in the playoffs, not to mention an untrustworthy PG who will stitch you up on social media ?

CU.LIONSParticipantI’m sorry, but some of the trade proposals are very unrealistic for Westbrook. Teams like the Lakers, Celtics Minny ect, can NOT give up huge assets for a player who CAN leave after one year. And I think Westbrook will want to control his own destiny by going into free agency next year.
