Ive been watching a bit of tape on Michigan’s DJ Wilson recently. I’m intrigued with how his workouts go. I see a lot of potential in his game as a Gallinari/ James Johnson type of combo forward that’s quick and athletic  enough to play the SF on the perimeter, but also a prototypical stretch 4 in today’s league. Lots of potential in his game left untapped on both sides of the floor.

Who does he remind you of?

I think he would be a great fit as the Stretch 4 for OKC

I got Ojeyele going to okc as the stretch 4. While wilson shows signs of being able to stretch it and measure really well consistency wasnt his strong suit and to get minutes on a playoff team you gotta be consistent. Ojeyele gives them shooting, a man ready to play day one,  although there are concerns on defense.

Ojeleye is another one too. I wish he was taller, but if he was he would go higher in the draft haha. I like what I saw from him at SMU

Ojeleye is not going mid 1st.

Wilson could sniff the late first.

I remember watching him in the tourney. Dude is jocking Kelly Oubre’s style like crazy.

I don’t like the gallinari or James Johnson comparisons at all. Wilson does not have nearly the offensive repetiore of someone like gallinari or the playmaking ability of someone like James Johnson. His ball-handling ability is pretty suspect at this point. He was very rarely asked to really create his own offense much at Michigan.

Wilson is long, active and can stretch the floor. He in many ways perfectly fits the description of the modern stretch big but he needs to get tougher and give consistent effort. I think he could benefit from another season at Michigan in a more featured role, but if he impresses enough in workouts who knows.

I see some shades of Robert horry in Wilson. Similar demensions and skill sets. Versatile defenders. Obviously, horry played in a much different but he was one of the original stretch 4s in the NBA. Never really created his own offense much but was extremely effective playing with other players who could and it arguably one of the best role players in NBA history. I think Wilson could potentially find success in a similar type of role.

It wasn’t a comparison of skill set. It was a comparison of how they can be utilized. A combo forward

DJ Wilson does have ballskills and good vision hes just on and off and he lacks the confidence to use his full skillset. I noticed he was on and off throughout the year some games he would be a great shot blocker and perimeter defender, some games a 3 point shooter, some games a good stretch decoy/playmaker but he never really put it all together. Whatever team drafting him has to decide which role they can expect him to execute from a night to night baeis and if they can finish developing him into a complete player consistently.
