Now that Thon Maker has reclassified, I’m curious where he fits in the 2016 Mock Draft?

He’s definitely not the player his Legendary Mixtape Status would suggest, but his upside is ridiculous.

I’ve got him between 6 and 14. He’s definitely not ahead of Simmons, Brown, Rabb in my opinion. (Not sure why Skal is 22 on this site)

Also, if he goes to a big program like Kentucky or Kansas, what kind of impact can we expect as an NCAA freshman?

He’s going to be a top 6 pick..He’s long and plays with a solid motor, Defensively he could be a nightmare with time
Makers game is reminiscent of a Kevin Garnett when KG was in HS.
I know he has age questions and that could ultimately raise red flags.. .

I personally think Skal should go top 3 from this class and think he could easily be the best player from it, which is insane considering how I feel about Simmons and Brown.  I don’t know if I have ever seen a big man with as smooth a jumper as Skal has at the highschool level. He already has a bona fide NBA skill in his midrage shooting.  Pair that with his length and athleticism and you have yet another head scratcher from the NBAdraft.net crew.  Maybe they haven’t seen him play??

If he shows he can add weight he could be extremely special.

I agree, they probably haven’t seen him play recently. He sat out most of last year with a back injury. I have seen him twice this year and has impressed both times. I was at his game against Oak Hill and it might have been the most impressive game I have seen from a high school player, shot 13-20 (65%). Literally being double and triple teamed (highlights are on youtube). He’s like a created player on a video game lol. I think the only thing Thon has on Skal is speed.

There’s a lot more to basketball than a mixtape. But sometimes to look awesome in a mixtape, you actually have to be awesome. Such is the case of Thon Maker.

I look forward to seeing him make thons.

I think Thon’s potential will certainly land him a top 10 spot in next year’s draft. He’s thin, and has some work to do, but the potential is there. Look at Noah Vonleh in last year’s strong draft. He went 9th and was considered even higher, despite being a couple years away from NBA produciton.

I think Thon is a better prospect than Vonleh. He’d have to flop next year to not be a top 10 pick, IMO.
