Lotto StudParticipantIn a head 2 head match-up coming up this season in the SEC, between the 2 players who would come out as the victorious 1 on the stat chart? Might I remind you both are promising players on the scouting reports for potential, and are highly touted bigmen.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantThompkins has the edge,he’s more seasoned and the team’s offense is centered around him..He might be among the top 15 picks next summer…
Sidney hasnt played competively in over a year…not sure how he overcome the rust..
but if he plays with maturity he could become a top 5 pick..0 - Posted on: Mon, 08/23/2010 - 5:33am #383204

TRC1991ParticipantI like Thompkins better but I think Sidney has more natural talent…Thompkins has bust written all over him…Raw offensively, not heavily recruited, freak athlete…i’ve seen it hundreds of times before

OrangeJuiceJonesParticipantThompkins isn’t a freak athlete, nor is he raw offensively. He’s a highly skilled player who lacks athleticism. Think Al Jefferson.

Demarcus OnealParticipantThompkins is a decent athlete and is very polished offensively with a nice 15-17 foot jumper THompkins may do better right now since Sidney hasnt played in a year but a in shape Sidney is more talented by Thompkins but not by much

bighoopsfanParticipantVernon Macklin of the florida gators is more athletic and skilled post player than both of them in the SEC. He will be the best big man in that confrence. Macklin is coming of very solid Nike skills academies (Lebron/Amare Camps). Due to his lack of touches in the gators jump shot heavy offense, Macklin skills are not shown to the best of his abilities.

Howard Thompkins is not raw at all, and he was a 4-star/5-star recruit. In fact, he’s probably THE most polished PF, not only in the SEC, but in the nation. I’ve seen him play a bunch, and I went to about 5 UGA games last year, and if you think he’s raw, you obviously have NEVER watched him play a moment in your life.

Vernon Macklin isn’t better than Thompkins man….get it together. They played head-to-head twice last year, and Thompkins outplayed him by a very good bit both times. Macklin isn’t even all that athletic really. He’s just long. Macklin is a VERY slightly above average college big, he deserves no mention in this thread to be honest.
To answer your question, I’d take Thompkins over Sidney. Thompkins is a better passer, can score a little better RIGHT NOW than Sidney can facing-up and posting, and Thompkins, while not a great defender, is better on that end than Sidney is. Sidney may have more long-term potential, but even that’s arguable, and I’d take Thompkins over him. Thompkins seems like a David West clone, while Sidney could be another Zach Randolph or even Chris Webber
