Thibs has just got back an all-time favorite of his in Taj for 28 mil for 2 years. Not bad if you ask me. This moves Dieng to the bench where he can fulfill the perfect role for him in this league imo, a game-changing backup big ironically just as Taj was for Thibs when he was on the Bulls.

Meanwhile, the Thunder have now absolutely no PFs, unless they want to start Kanter (yuck). Sabonis was traded, so was Laveurgne, they released McGary a while back and now Gibson is gone. Are they really gonna play Rudy full-time at PF? Or Roberson? My guess is they will play Roberson at PF while Gay is out.

Aren’t Nick Collison and Jerami Grant still there? Not that they’re a great PF rotation or anything, but they can soak up a few minutes.

Collison is a free agent, but Grant is still there. If they do not sign someone to play 4, I would imagine Robertson (it looks like they will resign him), George, and Grant will play most of the minutes at 4. Grant is a solid young player, so I would think they will want to get him some minutes (not starter level, more like 20 minutes a night).

McDermott is going to play most of his minutes at the four in small ball lineups as well. So, an okay little mix there with Grant, Gay, Robertson, McDermott and George. Let’s just hope they don’t have to face the Wolves with Towns and Gibson or the Jazz with Gorbert and Favors in the playoffs, if Hayward comes back.

OKC could sign JaMychal Green if the Grizzlies don’t resign him.  Memphis probably won’t resign BOTH Green and Zach Randolph, so either of those guys could end up on OKC.

Jeff Green is a free agent — he might be a good fit back on the Thunder, as a small ball 4.

Rudy Gay can play the 4 — might be his best spot.  With Russ and Paul George as their main scorers and Steven Adams as their inside defender, they basically need a role player at power forward.  They can use Kanter as their scoring big man off the bench.

OKC should dump Kanter’s salary and sign Paul Millsap

Taj is a good pick up for Minny and gives them a reliable 3rd big man who can do the heavy lifting. He is a good veteran presence on a young team and is a Thibs man too, plus he’s got a nice pay day so all are happy.

I feel like Thibs is putting his mouthpieces on the floor while they still can contribute. Towns,  Wiggins, and company need lots of voices in their ear. They obviously didn’t figure out defense in Thibs year one. I like the deal, Taj brings what has ailed them.
