Sources: Minnesota embarking on head coaching search that includes Sam Mitchell as part of candidate process. List: Van Gundy, Thibs, Brooks reported by woj..

I personnally want to see Jeff Van Gundy coach, I would miss him as a commentator though.. Please no Scott Brooks..

I’d like to see Van Gundy or Thibs. I’m a Wolves fan, and I think this team has the athletes that Thibs could mold into good defenders. I’m sick of watching the Wolves give up 125 points every few nights.

But I think either could take the Wolves to the next level with their respective styles. And I agree, please no Brooks.

I dont see him agreeing to coach an upstart Minnesota Timberwolves…

Thibbs would run that core into the ground, KAT and Wiggins would be used alot like Noah and Deng, they’re not ready to play 38 minutes per game …

As much as people love pile on, the most reasonable choice is Scott Brooks, he is a good defensive coach and has a good history with allowing his young stars to grow into their own roles, sure he might not win you a championship but he can get the ball rolling like he did in OKC, they need a guy who in ome sense earns the younger players respect but doesn’t have an over bearing personality ala JVG and Thibbs…

Throwing a few other names out there, what about Mike Malone or even a college guy like Shaka Smart?

If I were David Blatt right now, he should be looking at the Wolves head coaching gig. Remember, he was supposed to coach an upstart team in Cleveland until Lebron came and I think a team like the Timberwolves can be a good place for Blatt. Not saying the Knicks will be a bad job though since they have Porzingis there but if Phil stubbornly implies the Triangle then he would be at the same position that he was in Cleveland with no coaching freedom at all.

David Blatt is a sound choice and Scott Brooks in their current situation makes sense. Scott couldn’t get the Thunder over the line but he made them legit contenders so he’d be a decent choice for say the next 3 years.

Might a college coach with substantial NBA playing experience like Kevin Ollie be an option.

Maybe a bit of an outside choice Patrick Ewing has been an Assistant for many years and probably deserves a shot at a top job.

Let’s not forget that they’re evaluating for the president of basketball operations position too. Which I think is ridiculous since Milton Newton was the GM also before Flip pasted away. When the Wolves made the Love/Wiggins trade Flip gave a lot of credit to Newton for handling negotiations (and being consisted with Wiggins being in the deal). Even though Flip ultimately had the final say, Newton was still a big piece of that deal.

So with that said I would hope the Wolves at least bring Newton back since he hasn’t really shown any reason to fire him.. And if they consider Van Gundy you already know he’ll want GM duties as well (like his brother does with the Pistons).

With vacancies at T-Wolves, Wizards for definite plus likely to at Knicks, Kings and possibly Lakers, a lot of top guys will have the pick of the jobs and may look for more front office power.

Everyine of us assumes Luke Walton is a lock for Lakers or Knicks but he may have more talent at hand with the T-Wolves and he can find his feet much more there than in a high profile results driven job. Somrthing like the T-Wolves job might just appeal to him.
