Supposedly, the Timberwolves are calling around trying to see who wants Anthony Bennett. Talk about stock falling off a cliff. I guess getting Payne made him completely expendable.

Who should take a chance on the guy? Knicks? Lakers? Jazz? And what is he worth on the trade market?

I hope he can swing SF these days because the teams that need young guys have PF’s already.

The best chance for Bennett would be a stint in the D league. He needs to get some confidence and develop some basic skills. He wants to be a small forward he needs to lose some weight and develop a mid range shot. I think his best shot would be to work on his post game and watch Sullivan tape all day, but I don’t know if he is tough enough. Maybe he’ll wake up and realize playing ball in Lebanon sucks.

He slows down the Wolves offense and is overmatched on defense. There have been a few flashes but overall he hasn’t improved since coming to the NBA. The Wolved don’t seem interested in tanking and it seems like Skip has lost patience. I will miss the comedy of him trying to catch Rubio passes.

Bennett has to be one of the worst catches off a pass I have ever seen, albeit I have only been watching the NBA since about 03′. He has such small hands ( cannot palm the basketball) what looks like poor hand eye cordination and struggles with quick decision in traffic.

I was hoping it was just it because he was down on confidence and out of shape however he still is showing the same issues.

So basically what you have is a undersized PF, who struggles in traffic, hasn’t showed an ability to effectively shoot the ball from outside the pant, turns the ball over way to much for his limited possessions and gets bullied on defense. To be more effect and bring more to the table he needs to be able to play the SF, however, can’t.

It is no secret he needs confidence, but it isn’t as easy as it sounds and being traded for the 2nd time in a period of a few months will not do it any help.

For most players I would say he needs to go back to the D-League for an extended amount of time, dominate and seriously work on his weaknessess. But with Bennett has problems are hard to fix. you cannot make him bigger, quicker or complete more passess in traffic. I just am not sure it looks promising for Bennett

he lacks heart. When you are a 6-8 PF you have to be a hard worker and do the dirty work. It is clear he can’t play SF. He needs to hit the glass and work on his body. If he does what ever shabazz did last summer he has a place on the team. The only thing is that he doesn’t seem to have the drive that shabazz has. He is a little like derrick williams only not as athletic. Being a 6-8 or under PF is not easy in the NBA, there aren’t that many of them. I don’t know how the timberwolves keep ending up with tweener bust forwards, we have had beasley, williams and now bennett.

Bennett did the exact same work-out program as Shabazz over the last offseason. He came into camp in great shape and that is likely why he option was picked up.

His jump shooting would be so much more valuable if all those pick and pop jumpers were from beyond the arc.  The cap on his efficiency as a jump shooter by taking all really long twos.  If he isn’t going to start shooting threes, than he needs to quit taking so many long jumpers and should work on his interior game.
