Suns

I was reading another thread and both sides made good points so I would like to ask two questions. Is Amare Stoudemire not a good enough player to build a team around (I think he is) and if so why does Steve Kerr believe otherwise? He is a great player and young. Why trade him?

Steve Kerr does crazy

Steve Kerr does crazy things.
Yes Amare is good enough to build a team around.
However, the Suns have way too many holes to fill around him.
There is no guarantee that Amare wants to stay in Phoenix after this season. The Suns don't have to trade him but if they have a chance to get a lot of young talent in return then I would pull the trigger.
Nash is getting old. Lopez will never be even close to as good as his brother. Richardson is more of a good 6th man to bring off the bench. Barbosa is another solid role player to bring off the bench. Earl Clark is the only legitimate starting young piece that they have around Amare right now.

Actually Barboas isn't a bad

Actually Barboas isn't a bad starter but I think he is more effective coming off the bench. I forgot about Grant Hill who is OLD.. It seems to me that Nash & Amare will never get enough help to really contend for a title. The Suns future doesn't look bad but it doesn't look good either.

if Amare had a better

if Amare had a better supporting cast he could carry a team.

The roster for this year

The roster for this year doesn't look that bad though, I mean obviously not contending but not a lottery team either I think. I'm not sure if they still have Barnes or not.

Nash
Richardson
Hill
Clark
Stoudemire

Barbosa
Lopez
Tucker
Amundson
Dragic (sucks)

Yeah Barnes is gone. Yep

Yeah Barnes is gone. Yep that team isn't bad..they should make the playoffs if healthy. But nowhere near a title contender. To me its all about winning titles. Being a descent team just means you get stuck with mid 1st round picks for the next couple years. So the chance of surrounding Amare with other young stars is difficult.

The Suns have a decent

The Suns have a decent looking young core.

C-Lopez
PF-Stoudemire
SF-Clark
SG-Richardson

If they get a young PG that can run and gun watch out. They are a very long and athletic team. Lopez can play in this system. He is nothing like his brother but he is athletic, can block shots, rebound, and he can run. Put a PG that can shoot on that team and let them grow.

if you could get the right offer for Amare

then yeah you should trade him, say if Atlanta offered Teague and Josh Smith, the Suns would be crazy not to take it

i read that lopez will likely to be the teams' new center

pg- nash
sg- richardson
sf- clark
pf- stoudemire
c- lopez

need to trade hill too old and stoudemire

but the deal with the warriors was not bad because you get wright, belinelli, beidrins, and randolph that's great players

Yea Teague and Smith would

Yea Teague and Smith would make them a ridiculous team in the run and gun. But the Hawks would have to get another young PG, so Crawford and Smith would make more sense for the Hawks. That would be a good running tandem as well

Yeah Dragic does suck. He is still fairly young though so he should get better. I don't ever see him being a starter for any team though.

He's too weak and small. He

He's too weak and small. He is like Travis Diener, and I wouldnt let Diener even play on any team, much less start. They both are 12th men.

Dragic: Good or Bad?

I think many of you expect too much from a first year European player. It's somewhat similar to a college rookie coming into the league but with some other major adjustments. Americans always expect instant success and it isn't going to happen very often.

1. He has to learn a new way of playing in the NBA that is very different from the European style.
2. He has to learn a brand new culture and language. Never underestimate the difficulty of doing such.
3. He has to adapt from being a star in Europe to a role player in the NBA.
4. He has to learn how to work with new teammates and a new coach.

If you factor in all of the above, I would be amazed if any foreign players succeeded their first year in the league. I don't know if Dragic is good or bad, however, I do know you can't judge him off of last season. I also know both the head coach and management is very high on Dragic, so he must have a fairly good set of skills.

This is the year you can make your judgments on the guy.
