Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantThe Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Clippers, Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks are pursuing free-agent forward Kenyon Martin, according to league sources.
Martin has spoken with executives from each of the clubs and is hoping to make his decision next week.
The veteran of 11 NBA seasons will be eligible to sign and begin playing with a team as soon as the Xinjiang Guanghui Flying Tigers complete their season in the Chinese Basketball Association.
Martin signed a $2.6 million deal with Xinjiang during the lockout, but left the team in late December in hopes of returning to the NBA.
The CBA’s rules, however, prohibit him from joining an NBA team until Xinjiang’s season ends, whether after the regular season or the playoffs. Xinjiang is currently out of the playoffs, which means Martin could potentially sign with an NBA club when the CBA season ends Feb. 16.
Martin’s priority is to join a contender on which he’ll have a sizeable role, according to a person close to Martin.
The Clippers and the Knicks can offer the $2.5 million mini-midlevel exception. San Antonio can as well, but it is unlikely to do so because of the luxury tax, sources said.
Atlanta is also limited by luxury tax concerns. Miami can only offer the veteran’s minimum of $1.4 million.

Wavy BagelsParticipantI’m intrigued to see where he lands. I believe it’s a toss between Miami or LA, though.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantI think he’ll probably sign with the Miami Heat. The Clippers have a young nucleus and probably won’t win this year. At this point of Kenyon’s career, he’s looking for a ring now.

Wavy BagelsParticipantYou think he’ll play at the 5? They’re pretty locked up at the PF with Bosh and Haslem.

IndianaBasketballParticipantMiami is the logical choice.
They’re the top contender and he’d play a "sizeable" role. Signing Kenyon Martin will assure that they NEVER have to play Eddy Curry. Joel Anthony’s minutes will take a small dip, but Martin can do what he does, while also giving offense.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantAlthough he’s undersized, he adds some toughness and defense. They’ll probably go with an undersized line-up at times when Bosh comes out of the lineup and play Martin-Haslem-James-Wade-Chalmers. It gives them more flexability.
Instead of having two good bigs, they’ll have three bigs. Not to mention, Bosh can play center against certain teams.

IndianaBasketballParticipantMartin will fit right into Miami’s defense. Not very big, but quick and athletic.
Martin is an upgrade over Anthony in every way. He’s probably even an upgrade over Haslem to be honest.

Malik-UniversalParticipanthim and haslem are virtually the same player at this point in their careers
but if i was martin, i would go to mia anyways

Wavy BagelsParticipantAn upgrade over Anthony? Yes. But potentially an upgrade over Haslem? I somehow disagree. You believe K-Mart is a better rebounder/15-ft shooter then Haslem at this juncture of his career?

PulseGlazerParticipantHe might want to go to Miami, but he’d be most useful to the Clippers. They need defense, toughness and frontcourt depth, as they have absolutely none of any of those. His energy and athleticim fit really well with the Clips, as well.

While he is a much better fit with the Clippers, they most likely need another two years to start gelling and Kenyon Martin, at this age, does not have time to wait. He’s going to be 35 this year and is probably a season or two away from retiring. Sure, if he was 31, he would play for the Clippers but at this age, he doesn’t have time to wait.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantIf he wants playing time he should go to the Spurs,If he wants to tag-a-long and try to win a ring,he should go to the Heat..Denver still can use him..The Celtics need him,but what can they offer?
0 - Posted on: Fri, 01/27/2012 - 3:14pm #629286
PulseGlazerParticipantI guess – I don’t really see it as waiting. Some guys go anywhere that’s great to get a ring, and some want a bigger role. He could have a huge impact on the career of the next superstar.

M-DYMESParticipantI wouldn’t count NYC out. Something tells me he’d have a strong bond with Melo and Amare.

HitsterParticipantThe Spurs are apparently wary of going into luxury tax and with Splitter playing well behind Duncan and Blair then K-Mart’s minutes might be limited there. The Heat perhaps offer the best win now chance but might NY sway him or even LAC, if he could get in there and do well then he could earn another deal with them and ride shotgun to Blake Griffin and CP3 if he opts in/resigns this summer.

IndianaBasketballParticipantI don’t think Haslem has been the same since his injury last year.Haslem is a better mid-range shooter and rebounder, but I think Martin would bring more to the table. It’s not like Martin is a bum rebounder and mid-range shooter though. I think he’s the more versatile player, especially at the defensive end.Like I said though… Probably.0 - Posted on: Fri, 01/27/2012 - 4:13pm #629302
Chilbert arenasParticipantTrina will get him to play for Miami
0 - Posted on: Fri, 01/27/2012 - 4:25pm #629305
FastAndFuriousParticipantI think Miami as well with his career starting to wind down and at age 34, I think he just wants to win now, Martin also has earned 108 Million dollars over the course of his career so I don’t think he would care too much about the money.
Miami is a place he could bring toughness at the PF/C spot and get a ring or like Lebron said 4,5,6,7,8 rings lol

Mr. 19134ParticipantI actually like the Spurs because Duncan, Blair, and Splitter are their only good big men and Duncan and Blair both need limited minutes so Splitter and Duncan split C time and Blair and Martin split PF plus Martin already is close friends with current Spurs starting SF Richard Jefferson. I don’t believe Martin is better then Haslem right now. Plus he fits the Spurs new style perfectly.
