BasterdInABasketParticipant1. Best SF right now- Lebron James
2. Most Underrated- Luol Deng- DRose gets all the attention but Deng would be a GREAT 3rd option on a championship team
3. Overrated- Carmelo- I’m hoping he starts proving me wrong but he’s starting to remind me of TMac/Vince, all about the numbers but not willing to be a winner.
4. Best SF in 5 years- James- KD will be right there but James is the superior athlete, defender and playmaker.
5. Best Young SF (2 years exp. or less)- Paul George- He could eventually be 20 point scorer. I like him better than Granger as a franchise player.
6. Best Rookie SF- Derrick Williams- I consider him a SF for now since Minny has Love at the 4.
7. Most athletic- Lebron- maybe the most athletic player in history
8. Best Leader- KD- He’s the Tim Duncan of Small Forwards. Quietly leads by example but I would like to see him get in Westbrook’s face some more when RW forgets that hes not the best player on OKC
9. Top SF All-Time- Bird

I May Be WrongParticipantKeeps me busy and very interesting responses
1. Best SF right now- LeBron James = Love him or hate, he is a stat sheet stuffer and a truly one of a kind player. 6’8" with passing skills unmatched and an absolute freak of nature athletically
2. Most Underrated- Thad Young = Honestly, he was my favorite player to watch on the Sixers last season outside of Jrue. The thing about Thad is that he makes smart decisions. He has crafty moves and scores well in his limited minutes. Plus he is athletic and rebounds well.
3. Overrated- Rashard Lewis = Near 7 footer and all he does is hit threes. Which worked before but now that he’s older, his shot hasn’t been so reliable as of late. Seriously, he’s not a good defender, can’t rebound well, doesn’t really create his own shot.
4. Best SF in 5 years- Kevin Durant = LeBron will still be around but maybe he might show signs of slowing down. I’m assuming Kevin Durant is going to bulk up eventually and start being aggressive. This guy can literally be an unstoppable scoring machine and I think a couple of rings will help make him as the top SF in the game.
5. Best Young SF (2 years exp. or less) – Paul George = I’m getting ahead of myself because he may turn out to be a bust and let us all down lol. But he has a tremendous amount of potential and if he can put it all together offensively and defensively, then he’ll be someting special
6. Best Rookie SF- Jan Vesley = Very excited to see him and I think he’ll put up great numbers in the future. He hustles and isn’t afraid to drive unlike other foreign players. Not to mention his long arms will let him get blocks easily
7. Most athletic- Andre Iguadola = I wanted to put LeBron but honestly, LeBron is a POWER dunker. LeBron has his highlights but it’s almost all the same thing. Now Iggy, he is an athletic freak! He’s always good for a couple of jaw droppers every game
8. Best Leader- Kevin Durant = Well, he is still 22 years old. But so is half his team and you need someone to step up and be the man. He’s the man. He has put OKC on the map and led them almost to the Finals. His players follow his lead and he wants to win. That type of attitude rubs on on his teammates
9. Top SF All-Time- Well Jordan can play the SF spot too lol. But if we can’t pick him then I’m going with Dr. J. Erving was a great scorer and helped the NBA gain poppularity. He deserves that spot as the best all time IMO

ilike.panochasParticipantIm surprised anyone would call Danny Granger overrated. Plays for a small market team, gets no recognition, and puts up 20PPG consistantly. I don’t know how he’s overrated by anyone’s eyes.
And yes I did labeled Gerald Wallace overrated. The guy is a good player no doubt about it, I think he is a fine player, just not an all-star caliber player, yet he is often put in that level of player. I dont think hes an all-star player.

JoeWolf1Speaking of Larry Bird as the best SF of all-time, I think there is no excuse Lebron shouldn’t be putting up comparable rebounding numbers. I realize he’s more of a perimeter type player, but with his athletic ability and strength, IMO, he should be a much better rebounder. If he were to work the block a little more, he could get more points in the paint, be in better position for rebounds and flash to the high post and use his great passing ability to set up teammates down low.

I May Be WrongParticipantJust out of curiosity but doesn’t that sound weird to say LeBron is the most overrated but he’s still the best SF in the league? I know he messed up in the finals but there HAS to be like 7 other guys who are more overrated than a guy whose good for at least 25, 7, and 7 a night.

Memphis MadnessParticipantJoeWolf1, Good call. LeBron should rebound as well as Larry Bird. For whatever reason, Bird was a superior rebounder which is all the more impressive since he teamed with McHale and Parrish. Bird was also a far superior shooter than LeBron and might have been a better passer, too.
Another interesting question is will LeBron win more titles than Bird? Bird won 3 and lots of people think that LeBron will win at least 3 but I am not so sure. Bird had 3 MVP awards and 3 titles. So far LeBron has 2 MVP awards and 0 titles. If James can’t pass Bird’s totals then Larry Legend will still be the greatest small forward ever.

1. Best SF right now – Lebron James – the nba has never seen a speciman like Lebron James. The closest one i can think of is Shaq (when he came into the league, shaq wasnt as heavy. He was a lot faster and he had 36 inch vertical! YES SHAQ! he did 360 dunk easily). Anyways Lebron is big, fast, and athletic. On a breakway, there is noone stopping him. However, i still think he lacks the complete set of skills and team hardwares to be call one of the greatest of all time. IF he continues to develop and win a few champs, he will most likely be in the conversation of top 10 players of all time.
2. Most Underrated – Grant Hill. this guy has never gotten enough credit for what he has done. back in the 90s before his injuries, it seemed like he was for sure going to be a hall of famer. now, at age 38, the guy still got 13 ppg while shooting close to 500, and 400 from the 3s. his D is very underrated too. as a lakers fan, i always watch him guard kobe, and yes, kobe had some incredible shots over hill, but if you look at the replay, it was almost perfect defense from hill.
3. Overrated- Trevor Ariza. i was a fan of his when he was back with the lakers. then he got cocky. he damended money, and he thought he could be the go to guy.
4. Best SF in 5 years – Durant has the slight edge over Lebron. Durant has a better skill set than lebron. Lebron uses his athletic ability more. at age 31, he would be a lil bit slower and a lil bit less explosive. Durant would be 27 entering his prime.
5. Best Young SF (2 years exp. or less) – none of them really stands out to me. but i think aminu, george, william all going to have great career. i think the best SF of the futures might be in the 2012 draft with barnes, mcadoo, miller, and jones possibily coming into the league.
6. Best Rookie SF- Derrick William. i dont know if hes going to be SF. but with love playing PF. darko playing C. it seems like he will be playing the SF position. I saw the phillipine game online, and DAMN THIS GUY WAS GOOD! chris paul threw a couple of volley to this guy, and this guy just absolutely destroyed the rim. maybe he will have that kind of pick and roll style with rubio?
7. Most athletic- LBJ. see above.
8. Best Leader- Kevin Durant – this is a no brainer for me. Ever since durant joined the league, he participated in almost every single thunders team event. He was there during summer league to cheer his teammates or potential teammates on. When players were drafted by Thunders, I heard he was always one of the first to call. This guy is an absolute leader and he gets respect from all his teammates.
9. Top SF All-Time – Larry Bird over Baylor. larry has 3x mvp, 3x champs, 2x nba mvp, and is still considered one of the best shooters of all time.

iguapops420Participant@ Memphis Madness-You really gonna put Big Game James at 14 even with his 5 titles and multiple finals appearances. Melo hasn’t done anything, Durant hasn’t won anything and certainly don’t live up to his 30 a game come playoff time, Pierce who has nearly the same role as Worthy minus 4 titles and Chris Mullin who didn’t have a long enough dominant span. Big Game James is one of the most underrated SF’s in history IMO.

omphalosParticipant@I May Be Based: I get what you’re saying, but Lebron has so much hype around him, that even though he is the best at his position, he doesn’t live up to his billing as best player in the NBA in my opinion. Also, I don’t see him staying the best for long with Kevin Durant coming up to challenge him, it’s only because he’s further along developmentally that he’s still better than KD, again in my opinion.

andxxxParticipantPersonally I feel like Lebron’s career is kinda like Shaq’s. Early on he put on monstrous numbers, but never quite was able to win. He needed someone close to his level to play with (Kobe) and he brought his game to a whole other level with how dominant he was. His first year with Kobe they went far, but didn’t win the championship then after that 3 straight titles. Not saying Lebron will win 3 straight, but I feel like he’ll have a similar career timeline.

rileymcshea3ParticipantHow can you say Kevin Durant is a leader when he is just as much as a leader as his pg? Hes a scorer not a leader much like Dirk .Tyson Chandler was the biggest leader on the Mavs. Now if Russel Westbrook played on the Lakers do you think Kobe would let Russel take as much shots as Kobe does?
And Carmelo Anthony overrated?Yeah he slacks on defense but he still is the 3rd best scorer in the NBA ,and top 5 in assist at the sf position and the 3rd best rebounding sf so he is pretty good.

Memphis MadnessParticipantiguapops,
You probably watched more prime James Worthy than I did. I remember watching him on TV in the 1991 Finals against the Bulls, and then I remember him playing the year Magic quit. A very good player but might have been somewhat past his prime by then. Probably one of the best 3rd options ever and a really good 2nd option too, but not quite the first option you could build a contender around.
In 1992 and 1993 James Worthy was the top Laker and they made the playoffs both years but failed to get out of the first round. In 1993 they had a 2-0 lead on the Suns in a best of five series but ended up losing in 5 games.
With my list the top 6 or 7 is pretty much set, but after that you could make a case for just about everyone in the top 15.
The Ice Man could score like few others in history, which is one reason I had him higher. He was also a great first option player on playoff teams. Bernard King’s peak was better than anything Worthy did. King led the league in scoring one year and put the Knicks on his back. Rick Barry was multi-talented and won an NBA title. I have Paul Pierce higher since he was THE MAN on the Celtics playoff teams, was a consistent scorer, and was the go-to guy in crunch time on the Celtics championship team and was named the Finals MVP. PP was not ever a top 4 or 5 guy in the league but I think he was a top 10 guy several years. PP was the Finals MVP on a team that had less help than Worthy’s title teams, and Pierce was the offensive leader on that team. … Kevin Durant hasn’t played many years but he is an incredible scorer and was the main offensive weapon on a conference finals team. He also played well in the 2010 World Championships. His ceiling is higher than Worthy’s ever was. Durant is a top five guy now and I don’t think Worthy was ever a top 5 guy in the league. … Carmelo is ahead of Worthy since he has led several teams to the playoffs as the main option. He only went to one conference finals, but that is more than what Worthy did without Magic. ‘Melo is one of the best offensive weapons in the game and can score from anywhere. He is also a solid rebounder who has been playing at a high level since he has been in the league. Carmelo also has a gold medal. … Chris Mullin played for many years and was the main weapon on the high octane Warriors teams. As a veteran he was a key contributor on the 2000 Indiana Pacers Finals team. Mullin was also a member of the 1992 Dream Team. Mullins’ peak was better than Worthy’s peak. I have Worthy ahead of T-Mac because of Worthy’s titles and because T-Mac had too many injuries and didn’t quite live up to his potential.
Worthy’s resume: 3 NBA titles. Some think that he won all 5 during the 80’s but he didn’t show up until the ’82-’83 season. He also won a Finals MVP which puts him in the company of Bird, Petit, Rick Barry, and Paul Pierce. But, he never won much without Magic and neither Magic or Worthy won a title without Kareem. Playing without Kareem, Worthy only has one Finals loss on his resume. It was Kareem’s team, then Magic’s, and Worthy was the 3rd option. Worthy played in 7 all-star games which was really good, scoring 20 and 22 points in his first two all-star game appearances. In his career he was named to the all-rookie first team and two all-NBA 3rd teams. He averaged 17.6 points for his career (solid) but only 5.1 rebounds with his career high being 6.4 rebounds a game in his 3rd season. His career high for points was 21.4 a game in the 1990-1991 season. He averaged 21.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.2 assists in the playoffs for his career.
So, Worthy has a very solid resume but he didn’t win all 5 titles in the Eighties but his 3 titles is nothing to laugh at. His Finals MVP award and 7 all-star appearances are great but he only has two All-NBA 3rd team appearances which is fairly low. He finished his career with 16,000 points, 4,700 rebounds, and 2,700 assists.

iguapops420ParticipantYou’re right M M, I had forgotten bout worthy not being there for the first 2, but everyone knows James Worthy was one of the big time playoff performers, and was usually the 2nd scoring optinon. Not many Sf’s had that kind f size and breakout speed like Worthy.
The Big 4 /85 playoffs(first Worthy title)
Worthy-21.5,5.1,2.2,(62%FG)
Cap-21.6,8.1,4.0(56%fg) (Finals MVP)
Magic-17.5,7.1,15.2(3.8T.O.)
Scott-16.9,2.7,2.6,(47%3pt)
BIG 4 /87 PLAYOFFS
Worthy-23.6,5.6,3.5(59%fg)
Cap-19.2,6.8,2.0(53%fg)
Magic-21.8,7.7,12.2
Scott-14.8,3.4,3.2(20%3pt)
Big 4/88 Playoffs
Worthy-21.1,5.8,4.4(52%fg) (Finals MVP)
Cap-14.1,5.5,1.5(46%fg)
Magic-19.9,5.4,12.6

As you can see, James worthy’s ability to leak out on the break and score at such a clip was one of the key reason’s for so many championships. Everyone fluctuated save for Magic and Worthy. Most of the time, it was James carrying the scoring load throughout the games, until late when te ball often went down to cap. Everyone played a role on this TRUE TEAM. Perfect balance IMO, which is similar to the Boston Big 3. When you take a look at what the Celtic Big 4 in 08 did, you see that it was really quite similar but not nearly as dominant. Pierce played the scorer paymaker role same as Worthy, Rondo was the primary ballhandler pg same as Magic(too a far less degree),KG often got the ball in times of dire need in the post similar to Cap, and Allen usually played the role of secondary perimeter scorer/shooter much like Scott. Now take into actount the numbers Pierce put up in the only title year of this Boston team and his Finals MVP year of 08.
Pierce-19.7,5.0,4.6(44%fg) (Finals MVP)
KG-20.4,10.5,3.3(49%fg)
Rondo-10.2,4.1,6.6
Ray-15.6,3.8,2.7(39%3pt)
Now as we’ve looked deeper into things, we see that in all reality, Pierce was no where near the scorer of Worthy. Pierce was a great player on a losing team, I give you that much, but who’s to say Worthy wouldn’t have been putting up similar numbers at that young of an age had he not been a winner his whole career. The guy IMO was a better athlete and a more efficient scorer. My case is that while Pierce had a terrific career individually, Worthy had the better career individualy with titles/finals appearances. Not really sure how a guy like Durant can even be considered above James given that he’s played 4 years and only made playoffs 2 times. Chris Mullin had a 5 year span of excellence and not a single title. Throw in Melo and his 24.7pts,41%FG career playoff average and lack of D and Wins VS. Worthy’s career 21.1,54%FG and I see no way that you can put a guy like Worthy below these players. At least not at this point in Durant or Melo’s careers.
I understand where you’re coming from, just think you missed too much of Worthy’s prime and had a slightly tainted view of Worthy based on post prime play along with an average/mildly over the hill team.

iguapops420ParticipantYou’re right M M, I had forgotten bout worthy not being there for the first 2, but everyone knows James Worthy was one of the big time playoff performers, and was usually the 2nd scoring optinon. Not many Sf’s had that kind f size and breakout speed like Worthy.
