Simmons done for the season! I’m ok with him being out to develop his jumpshot and truly heal. Shoot i’m even ok with holding him out if you still believe you need to secure a high pick and simmons could interfere with that. I;m concerned thought that the injury is serious and career threating. Now I don’t know much about it, I just hope that’s not the case, or a case where he keeps having reoccurring injuries on that foot now! Somebody give me some insight on this injury, or what they think is happening!

I’m not surprised, if he’s not nearing being ready to start training then he would be unlikely to play this year. Still leaves a lot of questions regarding who they draft, since moving Ersan and Noel, they have a main 3 man big rotation in Oak, Embiid and Saric plus supporting players. So if they do end up double handed in the top 10 of the draft, all positions could be in play, it’s not like they are filling out their roster.

Not to drive home an obvious point, but slow-healing knee, foot, and/or ankle problems at a young age are not a good thing for massive human beings. I wish Simmons well in his recovery, but to think this is a good thing is delusional even by Hinkie-ite standards.

The rebuild sure has taken too long, they’ve had to give away Nerlens Noel (the guy they started to rebuild with) for nothing because his rookie contract is already up, Joel Embiid’s, Robert Covington’s and Stauskas’s contracts are expiring next year, They’ll have to throw good money at Embiid, probably at Covington too. I really hope for Philly’s sake they get the Lakers pick this year, they don’t have time to spend.

He has a Jones Fracture which is a fracture of the 5th metatarsal(pinky side of the foot).  It usually happens from an excessive inversion ankle sprain or over use.  The injury tends to be slow healing and has a high chance of re-injury.  Look at players like KD, McCollum, and Cameron Payne who all needed a second surgery for their Jones Fractures.

The second surgery KD got was a bone graft which has a high sucess rate for healing the fracture.  So that may be a possibility for Philly and Simmons.

It’s old mother Hubbard’s cupboard again in Philly.  Splitter and Bogut surely to be bought out too.

No Ilyasova,  Simmons, Noel or Embiid (at least for a while) means plenty of minutes for Okafor to pad his stats, change a few perceptions and market himself for a draft day trade.

The problem is gonna be that if Embiid and Simmons heal and they and Saric and this years draft picks all reach potential, in a few years time when they’ll be right in a championship window, they will have no way to afford keeping them all.

Aah Philly..  at least they keep us all with something to talk about

Where was the follow up question to "Lyin" Bryan asking when the Bone Graft surgery is scheduled???

The Facts are that close to 95% of Jones Fractures do Not need a 2nd surgery / Bone Graft.

Simmons was running around in practice w/ teammates, jumping, shooting, sprinting hours before the scan. After the supposedly "bad" scan there was no announcement of a need for a Bone Graft Surgery.

Why not? Either Simmons needs a Bone Graft or he does not.

In the 70 year history of the NBA No player who only had One surgery EVER missed an entire Season – not a single player – Ever. The avg time missed for a One surgery Jones Fracture? 27 games.

Avg time missed for a Jones fracture that DID need a 2nd surgery / bone graft? 66 games. No matter how you feel about the Sixers holding Simmons out, the facts are that the Siuxers handling of the Simmons injury is Unprcedented.

Noel missed his rookie year w/ an ACL. Embiid missed w/ a Navicular bone break. These are confirmed year long recoveries. To miss a Full season w/ a Jones Fracture that did Not re-break is Unprecedented. And this Matters b/c you do Not know if a players NEEDS a bone graft UNTIL he plays & a re-fracture either occurs or it does Not occur as was the case with Kevin Durant.

So what happens next year if Simmons Does need a 2nd surgery / bone graft??? Simmons will undoubtedly miss an Entire 2nd year. Those of us who remember what a disaster Bryan Colangelo was in Toronto are Not one bit surprised by this. Colangelo is a guy who just makes it up as he goes along. What is more concerning here is that this appears to be a pattern Much deeper than simply Tanking. This ownership group is clearly stripping talent & shedding payroll in the interest flipping the team for a profit.

I can’t believe I’m saying this but I actually feel bad for Phila fans b/c Simmons & Embiid WILL leave Phila in the coming years; These are players w/ Super Star aspirations & there is just absolutely No way these young stars can realize these dreams playing for a completely incompetent organization like the Sixers. It is time for Adam Silver to step in & Force the Sixers ownership group – a bunch of New York Venture Capitalists,  who are for all intents & purposes Absentee Slum Lords – to sell this team to an Owner who WANTS to win

I don’t believe any of these 76ers injuries. I just saw footage of Joel Embiid running around the practice facility barefoot with no signs of worry. Usually if you have a torn meniscus you do whatever you can to avoid unpredictable stress like moving agile so you don’t worsen the rip. These guys aren’t injured lol.

I personally thought they should have looked to keep Ersan as he was a nice fit alongside Embiid, they have a ton of cap room and could have offered him a nice deal. Saric looks an ideal 6th man or could have flipped places with Ersan in due course.

It’s ironic they have ended up with the often injured Bogut and Splitter too!

As regards Simmons if he needs a 2nd surgery it should be done ASAP. We could see whoever they draft this summer debuting before Simmons the way things are going. Lets say they get Fultz, it could almost be his team before Simmons debuts.

Embeast can be extended this summer and I’d suggest Philly get him tied up for if he somehow stayed sound and played a full year next season his value could rocket. With his injury issues, he might be advised to resign if money is on the table.
