valentineDid anyone get the feeling that this whole "Signing Day Special" ESPNU is going to do seems a little bit fishy? Apparently Shabazz, Noel, and Anthony Bennett are all supossed to say where they might be going or something on that day. The way the said it, it just seemed like it was gonna be another Heat thing, where these 3 huge players go to Kentucky. I do not know but it just seems like it and I would not be suprised.

The8thDeadlySinParticipantI would hate that.. I am not a huge fan of the way Kentucky has been doing things lately. I know it is effective and wins games but it is sort of destroying the reason lots of people like college basketball.
There were lots of fans who liked college ball because it consisted of guys who wanted to be there.. It was people who planed on playing college ball. Now that its manditory, all the best players are just going to Kentucky to take easy classes and go to the NBA the next year.. IDK, i just dont like it..

The8thDeadlySinParticipantI know man.. I wish there was a baseball type rule where when you commit to going to school, you have to go for more than a year.. I dont think it should be mandatory but if you are going to go, you have to stay at least 2 years.

PrecociousNeophyteParticipantThat day is on April 11th and the last day to announce if you are going back to college is April 10th, you do the math.

DurantsWingspanI am a fan of Kentucky and I still don’t like it. I loved watching the team play together this year and it was great but one year is enough. If they win the title, then pull this drama full tactic, it would honestly really have a chance to change college basketball completely. I like teams being good but come on. Both the NBA and college are just going to be the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. Its not only the NBA the whole world is getting like this. Our whole economy is this. I don’t like it.

DurantsWingspanDo you guys feel the same way I do like this is going to be a hidden thing Kentucky pulls with all three going there? Do you guys think it seems fishy as well?

The8thDeadlySinParticipantEverywhere coach Cal has been, they have had some sort of violation where their accomplishments have been whiped out.. Memphis and the team he was with before that. It would be stupid to think that he isnt doing some shady stuff at Kentucky.

DurantsWingspanThis whole one and done thing is a joke anymore. It was better for college with the high school rule. Maybe it ruined some GM’s jobs, but its better than ruining college basketball. I think when you are 18 you should be allowed to go pro. You can join the Army, you should be able to go pro. If you go, you should go two years. You are right I think they should combine the both and say you can go after HS but if you don’t you have to stay two years.

CavsFan07ParticipantI completely agree with all of your posts in this thread, DurantsWingspan. But as a Kentucky fan, do you not worry of the consequences of allowing kids to enter the draft out of High School again? If that’s the case, Calipari is 100% leaving Kentucky for the NBA. While it is an extremely high profile job, the success wasn’t great until Calipari took over the reigns. Again, I agree completely with everything you’re saying, I’m just a little surprised to hear a UK fan be FOR kids entering the NBA straight out of High School.

DurantsWingspanI am not a HUGE Kentucky fan like they are my favorite team every year. I am just a huge fan of the team this year because 3 players are my favorite three prospects (Davis,MKG,Jones). I am the type of guy to like a team for their players and not because I always liked that team. I agree it would definitley hurt Kentucky if the one year rule was abolished.

HitsterParticipantIf a player wants to try to be a one and done guy then Kentucky seems to be the place to go. I’ll throw in one other suggestion that could favour Kentucky, with so many of their players being one an done guys, top HS players may be tempted to go there as they feel that the current stars may well declare for the draft and not return. For example James McAdoo signed with UNC but then had a load of stars returning and found himself on the bench, if a player wanted to really showcase himself then would he want that scenario.
If Coach Cal can legitimately recruit all these guys, then I always think of him as a great choice for an NBA GM almost as much as returning to the NBA as a coach. I’m sure that Coach Cal would be interested in an NBA return but he does have a nice number at Kentucky with a $3 to $4 million salary a year for at max a 40 odd game season and the likelihood that the team will reach March Madness each year.

chocboywndrParticipantThis whole Kentucky thing is created by NCAA/NBA yes their are some kids that make mistake and enter the draft when they shouldnt but their are some kids who should go straight to the league. The problem is that their is no way back for these guys if they screw up. If a kid doesnt go in the first round he should have the option to return to school. Maybe he can no longer go to a top school but going to a mid major is not a bad thing as we can see from tournament. Forcing these guys to go is what makes it one and done> They should be allowed to go from high school if they go in first round no cant go back to school(Guaranteed money more than enough to goto school if things don’t work out). If they go in the second round the team should hold their rights, if they go back to college. If they go to college they have to go for 2 years. The NCAA and NBA have to get together and straighten this out. If not I think this is a trend that will be habit forming. If your a kid why not go play with your buddies for one year win a NCAA championship and then go to NBA.
