I thought I would start a topic because it is pretty clear that 1 or both of these guys will be gone by the time the season ends (or at the beginning of next season). First, here are the stats they are both putting up this year.

    Gordon: 15.8 ppg 2.7 rpg 3.3 apg 1.3 spg (43% FGP, 38% 3PFG, 78% FTP, 2.1 TOpg, 32.5 mpg) PER: 15.47

    Evans:  12.6 ppg 4.3 rpg 4.3 apg 1.2 spg (41% FGP, 15% 3PFG, 80% FTP, 2.1 TOpg, 24.8 mpg) PER: 17.97

In my opinion, NOLA should move Gordon for a 3 who can help them out offensively (possibly Jeff Green, Luol Deng, Granger, and etc) anbd keep Evans. Here is why….

Judging statistically, Tyreke has had a better season. Yes, his FGP is 2% lower than Gordons and he is not a good mid range or 3 pt shooter, but all around, Evans has been the better player. Tyreke has been banged up and playing through it for the majority of the season, and once he gets healthy both shooting percentages should go up. Also in wins Evans is averaging 27 mpg, and in losses hes averaging 22 mpg, so clearly he needs to play more. I feel that since his rookie season he has been criticized too harshly for regressing statistically. I think alot of that regression has simply been that he has struggled with nagging injuries and has been repeatedly put in bad situations that have not allowed him to thrive (and also, a decrease in minutes each season). The way the Kings moved Evans from position to position and his inconsistent playing time this year (including DNP’s due to injury) I feel have really affected his confidence. He is a unique talent with alot of potential, and if given the chance in the right situation he could become an upper tier guard in the league.

Unfortunately, Gordon just is not the same player as he was when he earned his contract due to significant injuries. He has lost a step or 2, and it really limits him on both ends of the floor. He can stilll shoot the ball and score relatively well, but his struggle on defense (as a Pelicans fan) is tough to watch.

The fact of the matter is, whether it is Gordon or Evans, one of them needs to be traded. The Gordon Holiday and Evans coming off the bench experiment really has not been effective. I mean come on, paying a player 44 million to play 25 mpg is ridiculous, and we all know that Evans is not a SF. I really think a Holiday, Evans, Green/Deng/Granger, Davis, and a center (possibly they could trade for Asik) would be a good lineup. Both Evans and Holiday have good size and are an athletic back court duo that have the ability to make their teammates better.

What do you guys think, should Evans, Gordon, or both go?

Pelicans should commit to Evans or Gordon as their starting SG.

    Deal the other one.

If I were to make the decision I would keep Evans.

Younger(not much), not so injury-prone, Gordon 3-point shooting could be hnadled by Morrow and Anderson upon return.

Good quality SF or C would be nice for Pelicans in return.

I like Gordon but having 2 pick and roll guards to match with Anthony is big time. Carmello is on the market why not make a push for him  either trade Gordon straight out for melo or get some young players or picks and clear his contract off the books and sign/ sign and trade for  melo. They do have a huge trade piece in Gordon who expressed once he doesn’t want to be there.

davis has a per of 26.4

melo has a per of 24.6

    evans . 18

    holiday 17.5

    Anderson  19.1

that’s one of the highest per starting units I’ve seen in the league if that was to be put together.

Another player they can also go after is Greg Monroe  the pistons need a SG and has an expendable big who plays the center better then the 4.

they can go after both monore and melo this off season that’s if carmello takes a cut like LeBron did.

the pelicans have picks they own , Austin rivers, aminu

keep in mind the knicks own no pick 2014 or 2016  they could use a deal with NO rather then lose melo for nothing.

The question shouldn’t be who SHOULD they trade since I’m pretty sure they are both being actively shopped but it shoud be who WOULD trade for them and their horrible contracts.

I wouldnt call Tyreke’s contract horrible, he is producing well enough to be deserving of 11 million a year. Gordon however, is a different story.

I think NO would trade Tyreke Evans, even though I wish they’d trade Eric Gordon because I think Gordon needs a change of scenery.

Evans isn’t as good of a fit, specifically due to the fact he needs the ball in his hands and he’s a below average shooter. Gordon doesn’t need the ball in his hands to be effective and he’s a much better shooter. Gordon fits alongside Jrue Holiday and Anthony Davis better. Gordon is a player who can space the floor and has the ability to drive past defenders as well. When Evans isn’t dominating the ball (which is why he’s coming off the bench because he gets to dominate the ball more w/ the second unit), he’s sort of useless. He was benched a couple of games ago by Monty Williams. There was no reason mentioned, but the game before vs Dallas, Williams said that Evans was basically playing selfish basketball.

Gordon hasn’t been healthy the last two seasons, but he’s been healthier than Evans this season. Evans had surgery this off-season and came into the season overweight. He’s had nasty ankle sprains several times this season. Personally, I think Gordon will be MUCH better athleticially next season after an entire summer of training, etc. He’s basically only been able to rest/rehab the last two summers.
