Mr.Knick 32ParticipantWith everyone talking about Carmelo leaving (something I stated months ago), If Denver has to move Melo, what about just restarting?
Let’s say the guys the Nuggets want to keep are: Ty Lawson. Here are some deals Denver could do to start the rebuilding process
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=2gxvjpt ( Melo Deal)
Why Do This: Houston gives up 4 good but rotational players and a 1st round pick for Carmelo Anthony ( who’s arguable a top 6 player in the NBA). Denver is getting 4 young players and 13 million dollars in exp contracts. Budinger and Hill are nice pieces off the bench potentially.
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=28bem3u ( K-Mart Deal)
Why Do This: The Suns have a logjam at the wings. If Martin can come back, he can provide a solid low post guy. If not, he’s a exp contract. For Denver, you get someone who can play alright even though the team will be in a rebuild.
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=28bem3u ( Nene Deal)
Why Do This: Utah needs another big man. Nene could be that guy in rotation with Jefferson, Milsap and Okur. Giving up a 1st rounder and AK47 is worth it. The Nuggets get a 1st rounder and AK47 for a season.
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=26gwcmw (J.R Smith deal)
Why Do This: The Nuggets get Beasley and 2 solid players in Brewer and Kofous. The T-Wolves get 2 nice bench pieces. J.R. Smith is a great 6th man and Anderson could provide defense for the frontcourt in rotation.
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=2b6qovm ( Billups deal)
Why do this: Ibaka is a young piece. Maynor is young and Mo Pete is a exp contract. If Denver came to OKC with this deal, even with Westbrook? They would have to take it.
The Nuggets go from
Billups- Smith- Melo- Martin- Nene
To
Young players like
Ibaka ( young relentless defender)
Maynor ( point guard who is the polar opposite of Lawson)
Beasley ( solid player, combo 3/4 who could play for another contract)
Brewer ( potential combo wing who could defend and provide some scoring)
Budinger ( shooter, slasher)
Hill ( another big body who can play the 5 and not be terrible)
Kofous ( at best a bench player)Then you add expiring contracts like
Jason Richardson (14 mil)
Mo Pete (6 mil)
Battier ( 7 mil)
Jefferies (6 mil)
AK47 (16 mil)Throw in picks from
Houston ( 2011 1st rounder)
Utah (2012 1st rounder)
Oklahoma City ( 2012 2nd rounder)Thoughts?

HitsterParticipantDenver have Melo expiring in 2011 and if he assume he may move on. Martin expires in 2011 and Billups is a team option, if they look to trade Melo then they may decide to move Billups as well via another trade. Nene has a team option in 2011-2012 and could also decide to try and cash in although the CBA talks may make him decide to opt in.
If Melo wants out then it makes sense to look for the right trade and get something in return although waiting and doing an S and T could bring equal value. Billups could still have good trade value and Ty Lawson is there to take over point duties if needed and K-Mart has a huge expiring deal which will give future cap space or could be used as a trade bait.
Denver could rip it up and start over within a year if needed.
Prior to Collinson going to the Pacers, I had seen a deal whereby Denver sent Billups and Nene/Martin plus maybe a pick for CP and Okafor. This gives NOH Billups to run their point with an option in their favour if Collinson develops quicker than expected and they get an expiring deal or a shorter deal with Nene/Martin compared to Okafaor. Denver get CP and Melo in tandem and Okafor plays alongside Martin or Nene.

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantIf Carmelo wants to leave Denver…why would he want CP3 to join?
Your’e missing the point, he wants to LEAVE Denver and go somewhere else.

HitsterParticipantIf Denver got CP3 then he may just want to stay, any moves to trade Melo will depend on his plans after next summer as teams will not give up picks and prospects if Melo moved on next year. I wonder if the Knicks now regret trading for T-Mac as they would have had the picks and Jordan Hill etc to use as trade bait. Any deal perhaps cannot be done until the trio they got from GSW become trade eligible and Denver would probably want Galinari as the centre piece of this and may push K-Mart as well to get Curry’s lower value contract in return.

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantIf Denver said ” You give us Gallo, you get Melo” The Knicks would pack Gallo’s bag for him.

HitsterParticipantIf NY is Melo’s favoured option then Donnie Walsh and co can sit tight as unless a blockbuster trade comes up then Melo is unlikely to land with another major player before he likely opts out.
The key to the Knicks would be possibly trying to get CP in 2012 as with Melo, STAT, Gallinari and co they have a team that can challenge but not match the very top teams, throw in CP3 and you have a team to challenge Miami and the Lakers.
The Knicks have been here before when Isiah wrecked the cap with some disasterous trades, luckily Donnie Walsh is far more canny and got their cap in good order, they landed them STAT which wasn’t a huge surprise, personally I had Joe Johnson going there at the outset but he stayed in Atlanta. Walsh has added a few decent pieces around STAT and if STAT stays sound and can produce without Steve Nash then NY can get near to or make the play offs this coming season.
They then have cap space, possible play off revenue and a luxury tax payment from the league to look at the 2011 FA market. The possible swapping of picks with Houston should be fairly neutral as if the Knicks get near to .500 they may well make the play offs and be picking below Houston who may need nearer 50 wins to make the Western Play Offs. NY can add another player via the draft which could be used as a squad member or trade bait in the future.

dmo21Participanthow about they blow the team up in 1 big trade lol. This is not serious at all, just some fun. But the nuggets get expiring contracts, good young players, and picks. So here it is, the biggest trade known to man: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=23wn9j2
NJ would have to throw in a couple first rounders. Have fun with this crazy trade!0 - Posted on: Tue, 08/17/2010 - 8:00am #378103
