I don't care this is a basketball forum but the way Mayweather won the fight was a lame as fck! What a shady and punk move... SMH
All I can say is I lost the little ounce of respect I had for Mayweather and I have a TON of respect for Ortiz because after he unfairly lost his welter weight title (he was going to anyways because Mayweather was dominating), he still acted like a gentleman afterwards and said it was a "learning experience".
Yall acting like he didnt get headbutted
This is hilarious. Merchant is talking about Mayweather not fighting Pacquiao.
"I wish I was 50 years younger and I'd kick you ass"
LMAO win for the old guy!
Haha but seriously...Mayweather would beat the pulp out've him...
Now that this fight's done Mayweather should fight Pacquiao now because there is no one else in the Welterweight division the same calibre as him but he's probably going to find an excuse and fight khan or bradley from the light welterweight division next just to get more money instead of fighting Pacquiao.
The way Mayweather Won, was Controversial and Classless..But he became angry after Ortiz headbutted him..The oldest and Dirtiest move in boxing...But when you're Mad you dont think, you just want to Strike...Ortiz Deserved to lose for HeadButting him...As you could see he did it on Purpose...And did something you're not suppose to do in the ring..That is leaving your guard down...
Mayweather can makeup for the bad taste this controversial win ,that has left in the mouth of many boxing fans by fighting Pac-Man...
Floyd didnt do sh!t wrong so go ahead with the crying all of you......Ortiz didnt keep his guard UP so he got knocked DOWN..the fight was IN and he got knocked OUT.......point is he won fair and square as none of the experts said it was illegal not even the ref
As for Pacquio he cant beat Floyd as the best offense is a great defense of course he'll hit Floyd but the problem is he'll lose so much energy doing it and with Mayweather able to counter like no other Pacquio will spend most of the fight on his heels thus making Floyd pick at him like he does and besides he's beat plenty of fighters better than Pacquio
FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR. "THE BEST POUND FOR POUND FIGHTER IN THE WORLD" 42-0
BANK ROLL GOT 0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 THAT MANY ZEROES
Shady move but this is boxing, not golf, tennis, or even basketball. Boxing is not a sport, these guys are gladiators, and in the arena anything goes. These guys get paid to knock the heck of each other and if you decide to be a nice guy in the ring then its on you. Floyd was classless for this, but Ortiz was stupid for dropping his hands.
its just too bad we didnt get to see a fight to determine the winnerl IM aware mayweather was ahead, but fans didnt get to see a legit ending.
mayweather is such a b*tch
i have no respect for him
i have more respect for lebron than this chump
Like i said in a previous post this hit was not in the slightest what would be deemed a legal hit. The ref was completely out of the equation talking to the oustide judges after the headbutt, the ref never resumed the fight whatsoever. This was the kind of shit you would see in the WWE, and furthermore is the equivalent to football where the refs are huddling discussing a call, with the defense off the field, the offense throws a TD and it counts. There are rules in boxing, and anybody has says otherwise is a damn fool and doesnt know the sport, and the actions of mayweather just further cemented the fact that he isn't the GOAT, for the GOAT doesn't have to self proclaim themselves as so, the masses already know it.
wow there are a lot of bi$$hes on this site!! ortiz is a punk, he tried to head butt a guy in boxing and yall are calling mayweather names, floyd won fair and square, he did nothing illegall
LeBron did nothing illegal by leaving the Cavaliers and you still hate him for that.
For someone that preaches, "LeBron didn't do the right thing!" you sure are backing up Mayweather a lot for showing ZERO ounces of self-respect or sportsmanship.
I like how mayweather supporters keep saying he did nothing illegal. YEAH, we get that. What he did was legal. It was also a dirty cheap shot that ended a fight prematurely and every single man in combat sports probably agrees that was wrong.
and kanyedabeast, cutler sucks
Protect yourself at all times. Ortiz headbutted him, had his hands by his side IN A BOXING MATCH, got hit once, STILL didn't put his hands up, and got hit with the "pow, pow, The End" as Lil Wayne would say. Nothing dirty about it. Ortiz was sleep, and he started the foul play anyway. It was legal, so Mayweather wasn't dirty to me.
ask any mma fighter or boxer if swinging on guys immeidiately after touching gloves before your opponent resets is dirty. They will almost all say it is dirty and they probably know better then anyone what should be considered dirty in combat sports. Ortiz was dirty as well, but doesnt mean what mayweather did wasnt dirty as well. If he didnt want to touch gloves with ortiz becasue he was still pissed, then he should have waved him off or shoved him away. But once he did tap gloves, he took part in what is considered by fighters a momentary break in action.
I'm glad Mayweather did what he did: box instead of hug. Totally clean and Ortiz just simply didn't want to keep fighting Floyd. He was getting frustrated as hell, tried to stall, and got caught with his hands on his junk and head in the clouds.
And btw on the LeBron did nothing illegal comment, he may or may not have been involved in tampering. Never going to find out but....
"ask any mma fighter or boxer if swinging on guys immeidiately after touching gloves before your opponent resets is dirty. They will almost all say it is dirty and they probably know better then anyone what should be considered dirty in combat sports."
Ask those same fighters if a lunging headbutt is dirty. And ask them if having your hands by your side in a boxing match is a smart way to fight. Ask them if keeping your hands by your side after getting punched after the 1st hit is smart.
Go back and watch Tyson VS. Holyfield.Tyson would have never bit the ear had Holyfield not headbutted him 2 times without the ref saying anything about it. AS a man, when you are competitively fighting and someone begins to just try and hurt you because they are losing, you lose your cool. Sometimes anger gets the best of you. Anyone who has ever been in a sanctioned boxing match or wrestling match and gets hit with a dirty shot or an illegal blow knows that rage takes over. Ortiz purposely went for a dirty shot, Money simply retalliated IMO. I know how I get when that happens to me when I was boxing in highschool. It's part of why i quit, one certain guy always took cheap/dirty shots and I ALWAYS retalliated. I got tired of it and lost interest.
The shot was a bad call on Money's side, but I personally don't think he was thinking, heres my chance for a dirty shot to guarantee a victory, simply, &$#%#&@! you headbutted me in a BOXING match, so here yah go. PAY BACK.
BTW, I persoanlly think Mayweather/PacMan will happen. Both sides have avoided it enough that it will ultimately HAVE to happen.
I wanna say FLoyd takes it, but a part of me knows just how good Pac Man is.
So let me get this straight... Ortiz headbutted Mayweather purposely, BUT Mayweather is the punk? I'm lost... What am I'm not getting or seeing here?
That's just like in any sport... You don't wait for your opponent to get ready. Once the ref says time in, you go for it. And that's what Mayweather did. I mean, I don't see how that was classless or anything. I guess I just don't get it. I mean, once the ref says "time in", you're not supposed to wait for your opponent. You go for it.
I've seen Peyton Manning hike the ball one million times when the defense was making substitutions. I've seen plays in football where the offense hiked the ball and threw a touchdown when the defense wasn't ready. I've seen players in basketball throw the ball off of another guys back when he wasn't paying attention and then get an easy layup. I've seen it happen in basketball plenty of times. I've seen so many things in sports where another guy took advantage of another guys lack of attention. I just don't see the problem.
"Once the ref says time in, you go for it."
That's the entire point! The ref never reinstated the fight! He simply turned around and was talking to a ringside official. He never officially reinstated it.
"Ask them if keeping your hands by your side after getting punched after the 1st hit is smart."
You say this as if Ortiz had full consciousness after the first hit. He was seeing birds after the first hit. There was no way for him to bring his hands up...
nobody is saying ortiz isnt a punk, They are both punks who actied dirty. And indianabasketball, that is not the way it works in combat sports when two guys are tapping gloves. Its like when you come out to the center of the ring to start a fight and you touch gloves, you then back up and get ready to fight. Its a sign of respect and sportsmanship. It has always been that way and thats the reson an arena full of 15 thousand fans rained boos. You cant honestly be comparing it to any of those other situations where teams are in play and are just nor ready to go. Nobody would boo a qb for hiking a football before the defense was set. Itys totaly different situations. Touching gloves is a ttradition of combat sports that is respected by 99% of fighters. Mayweather choose not to do that and is getting called out by millions for it.
and most guys arent in position to defend themselves immeditely after touching gloves. SO it wasnt like ortiz was fighting with his hands down as you suggest iggy.
I don't know... I mean, you have to blame Ortiz for being dumb more than Mayweather for knocking his ass out. Ortiz knew he messed up, so first he tried to hug and kiss him. Then even when the fight started, Ortiz was STILL trying to hug him. I will say the official looked a little confused with something going on with the side judges, BUT the fight was defenitely continued. Blame Ortiz for being a dumb ass... Not Mayweather for taking the shot.
Ortiz and the official are more at fault in my opinion. I just can't blame Mayweather for taking that shot. It's not like he immediately took it either... I mean, a few seconds went by. Ortiz was too busy trying to hug and had his hands at his waist.
Just a dumb mistake by a young fighter.
If you look at the official at :32 -:33, it looked like he signaled for the fight to continue with his hands.
i agree the fight was continued. But if mayweather didnt want to tap gloves, he should have either shoved him off or just started swinging. But he did touch gloves. And once he does that, he is in the wrong for using the situation to his advantage. And i do agree with you that ortiz should have noticed floyds body language and been more defensive. It was a mistake by him. ANd he is dirty for the headbutt. But that doesnt change what floyd did as being dirty too.
"But if mayweather didnt want to tap gloves, he should have either shoved him off or just started swinging. But he did touch gloves. And once he does that, he is in the wrong for using the situation to his advantage."
Hit the nail on the head.
"It's not like he immediately took it either... I mean, a few seconds went by."
Dude, replay the video you posted and go to 0:35-0:36. Mayweather literally strikes him half a second after the hug if not less.. Seconds didn't go by. Not even one single second.
@ Indianabasketball I dont know what broadcast you pulled up there but you should listen to the actual announcers who where broadcasting, who even stated the official never said fight. The arguement you guys have attempted to make is just completely foolish and assanine stating a fighter should be on the defense at all times. This is absolutely true except, IN THE EVENT OF A STOPPAGE, shit by your jaded logic if someone gets knocked out in the middle of a round while in their corner it is there bad for not having their defense up, which is also considered stoppage. Also Indiana I'm not entirely sure how you could question how people consider Mayweather a punk, I'm just going to assume this is the first time you have seen him fight over his career and have never seen any of his overly arrogant interviews, or you probably missed after the fight when he cursed out and got in the face of a 70 yr old announcer, not exactly something a gentleman and a scholar would consider.
i've heard, havent seen it for myself but read it plenty of times, that the ref did single for the fight to continue. Maybe ortiz didnt realize it. Also wasnt there only 1 second left in the round becasue official time of the fight is 2:59 of round 4. That might be why ortiz has his gaurd down figuring round is over since there is only a second left meanwhile the ref is trying to get the time tables attention to hurry up and start the final second. Ref wasnt exactly on his A game not even watching the action and not fully in control of the situation.
The fact is that it was a sorry way for a fight to end so early with people paying big bucks to watch it. Switch to mma everyone, boxing sucks.
ufc 135 this weekend. Light Heavyweight title fight
jones bones jones
May have been a sorry way for us as fans of the sport, but as a competitor who was already angry, saw the ref give aa slight signal for the fight to resume. The ref looked away to make sure it was going on because he too was confused, and Mayweather took advantage. Ortiz should have realized what was going on after the first shot. Like someone mentioned before, Orti even said afterwards he made a youthful mistake. If he didn't see it as dirty, I see no reason we fans should either.
Personally i applaud Mayweather for using his veteran insticnts on the young'n.
The ring ain't no place for hugs and kisses.
Who you take? Personally I'd like to see Rampage take, but if he shows up with any kind of conditioning similar to his fight against Rashad Evans, I see yet another loss. Absolutely MUST be at his top physical shape.
i would like rampage as well, and he does have a chance. but i dont care what type of shape he comes in my money is on jones. Jones is gonna do big things in the sport of mma and could very well enter discussions with andersen silva and gsp for best mma artist in the world over the next year or so.
- I will never hug another dude im fighting again...
- Bones all day
Then blame the official for never actually saying, "fight". It seems that you're not understanding that the official signlaed both figthers to continue. IF you look at the video I posted, you'll clearly see that. Just look. It's right there. He signaled the fight to continue, but then followed that up by looking over at the side judges. And if you watch the video, it's not like Mayweather just came out swinging... A few seconds went by as both figthers continued back together. He stood there as Ortiz tried to HUG him AGAIN for the SECOND time... As soon as they separated, Mayweather attacked. I just don't see how Mayweather is at fault. I mean, blame the official and blame a young fighther for being dumb.
And as far as Mayweather being a punk throughout his career, I wouldn't be able to tell you, since I'm not a diehard fan of the sport. I was just commenting on this fight. IF anybody is the punk during THIS fight, it's Ortiz. He did something dirty and intentional due to being frustrated, and then acted like a &$#%#&@! about it afterwards instead of just fighting.
"and most guys arent in position to defend themselves immeditely after touching gloves. SO it wasnt like ortiz was fighting with his hands down as you suggest iggy."
Wow. I'm looking at it right now. His hands were by his side.
And I've seen PLENTY of times were guys touch gloves and like immediately after put their hands up to guard themselves. Ortiz failed to do so on the 1st hit, which is not smart but maybe understandable considering Mayweather hit him quickly. But after getting hit once, he STILL didn't put his hands up?? Why would Mayweather not hit him? What was he supposed to do, be a gentlemen and wait for Ortiz to put his hands up and be prepared? Get real. I find it more crazy that Ortiz didn't put his hands up, if you get hit you either guard yourself or swing back. This man just stood there, you have to have reflexes and instincts as a boxer and he showed neither. It's nobody's fault he lost but his own.
@Kanyethebest, right now you are all in support of Quitler, but when you guys go 7-9 this season and the next, allo of you guys are going to kick him to the curb, and just move on to the next guy.
As far as the Green Bay conference game, I don't care what the team doctors say, if you can walk, than your knee is FINE. I don't want to be too critical cause I don't know how he was feeling scpecifically, but what you do is sit for 10-20 minutes, ride the bike a bit, then you go out there and TRY. Make Martz call all shotgun plays if it makes a difference, but don't just pace back and forth on the sidelines. Jason Witten was yelling at team doctors to let him go back in. Manning went to Europe to get an illegal procedure done on his neck, same with Kobe. I'll admit that even Lebron plays through injuries.
"Ortiz failed to do so on the 1st hit, which is not smart but maybe understandable considering Mayweather hit him quickly. But after getting hit once, he STILL didn't put his hands up??"
I think you don't know just how much power a clean Mayweather punch has. He got a clean hit on that first one, Ortiz couldn't put his hands up because he was already seeing birds.
I'm not going to say "Let Mayweather get a free hit on you and see if you could put your hands up" because it's a ridiculous argument but simply imagine it. I don't care who you are, if Mayweather gets a clean hit on your, odds are, you won't be able to put your hands up quickly.... if at all.
He literally paused like 2 seconds after the 1st hit. It's not like he combo punched back to back. A pro boxer's reflexes should be fast enough to either counterpunch or guard with that amount of time.
@aamir, I'm no Cutler fan, in fact I VERY MUCH dislike the man, but I actually tore my acl and walked on it just fine. Still havent had the thing taken care of 4 years later and still walk on it, but it is absolutely not in any kind of consistent run/jump shape. I'm not even able to go balls to wall when playing b-ball. Much less getting tackled. Contrary to your comment, Just because you can walk, doesn't mean there isn't something horribly wrong with your knee or leg. Not trying to attack yah or anything, just thought I'd let yah know a little tid bit of first hand info I've gained from experience.
I'm not a Mayweather fan by any means...but dude knows how to box. If I was in the ring, no way I'm givin out hugs, especially to a dude who headbutted me and we already did the apology session. IDK if I could even bring myself to hug a dude I was batting it out with. Hell I have a hard enough time giving hugs period.
When you in the ring, especially if u are fighting, keep ur dukes up at all times. Mayweather won that fight fair and square. Idc if he didn't adhere to the hugging/forgivness code in boxing. You wanna headbutt me, I'm coming at you 110% and not to knock you out, I want your head. That would be my mentality.
@Igaupops, Yeah, I see your point of view, and you are right.
The reason I said that is because I have had experiecnes where I am hurt but can walk, and I do play(had my career high on a sprained ankle) but when I can't play, I usually am not able to walk.
But thanks for informing me, cause the last thing I want to do is critisize somone when they are in a helpless situation.
M-Dymes, Thanks you. You seem to be the only person here who has the same mindset that I was trying to convey in my post. If you are going at it in a physical sport such as boxing or wrestling or even B-Ball and a guy tries to purposely inflict pain on you and a dirty mannor such as coming at you with a thrusting head butt. Apologies arent the thing you're thinkin abgout, nor is whether or not your making a dirty play yourself. All your thinkin is that you're going to &$#%#&@! SOMEBODY UP!!!!!! HEADS WILL ROLL. Fair win IMO.
@aamir, yeah, I know what you're saying as well. Honestly, the day I messed my knee up I thought like you and figured that since I was able to walk that I'd be able to play still and the adrenaline would eventually take over. The next play down the court, I brought the ball up and attacked in an iso and went for a jumpstop and my knee buckled under me again dropping me to the court in agony. That was the moment I learned that sometimes injuries are FAR worse than they seem. Still to this day when I land wrong or turn awkwardly my knee buckles and i drop to the ground for several minutes. I lost quite a bit of rebounding and lateral quickness due to this injury. In fact, my offensive game actually got better due to having to learn to post up and shoot jumpers instead of attacking all the time, but I feel like my defense as a whole really suffered the most from that injury.
"He literally paused like 2 seconds after the 1st hit."
Rewatch the video and count. You're just making a fool out of yourself.
yeah 2 seconds is way off, but im over it.
so how about the jones vs rampage fight tonight? Jones won every round but rampage kept it competitive until the very end when jones choked him out in the 4th round.
