lalailaParticipantIf you guys notices I have said several times, that I would take my guy Domantas over Poeltl or Ellenson and here we go… we were able to see match up of two of them.
Not saying one game changes everything but it’s another good point to make in Sabonis favor for me.
Domantas 19pts 10 rebs 2ast 2stl vs Poeltl with 5/4/2 and Gongaza destroyed Utah.
This is is skilled and his touch starts to show that with some time he not only will be versitile post scorer with nice moves but will extend his range maybe even to the 3pt line.
He is the best rebounder is this draf too and it’s been said already rebounding usually is the best translating skill to the NBA.
I mean I am not screaming he is next Kevin Love and take him top3 but he just has to big one of the top big man taken clearly in the top10
THoughts?

chall23ParticipantHe has really good feet around the basket. Maybe not Okafor good but he had a couple moves yesterday that made me think wow… I also think he is a better athlete than people give him credit for. He’s not an elite level athlete, but I think he’s an NBA level athlete especially with the array of post moves he brings. If he can show 3 point range semi-consistently in workouts I personally can’t see how he wouldn’t be a top 10 pick in this draft.

llperezloved his game last night, but I still question his strength/size down low vs legit bigs. He didn’t single handidly stop poetl, poetl was double teamed all night. I jst feel like sabonis has a very methodical low post game where he almost always dips his shoulder into his mans chest and goes up the same way. Very little variance to his moves down low. He can offset this a lot by continuiong to develop his jumper. Defensively hes nowhere near the impact poetl is. I think people are getting too caught up in one game here.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantHes definitely in the discussion for top 10. I could see him going anywhere between about 8 and 20 based on circumstances. I think he’s a better player than poetl right now but I don’t think he gets drafted before poetl because poetl will project as having a higher upside.
Hes more of a traditional pf and those types of players aren’t really in vogue right now. Hes not really a rim protector or a guy that will be able to switch and defend multiple positions on the pick and roll. He also doesn’t really stretch the floor (at least not yet anyway) so playing him with another traditional big could create spacing issues.
However, his skill set still does have value to an NBA team. Hes an effective back to the basket scorer with a variety of moves. He also finishes well in traffic and has a very good feel for the game as a passer out of the low post or pick and roll. And he’s a solid rebounder who knows how to anticipate and get position. I’d like to see him develop his range and face up game a little more but I definitely see him being at least a serviceable NBA big.

ExumInfernoParticipant5 to 15, hard to figure out which teams need him and which may pick someone who plays a different position due to draft needs.
Sabonis is playing great, and the highest might be to Minnesota as they do have a spot for him but then it is Toronto, Milwaukee and others.
Best fit, they traded their pick if they make the playoffs, Portland.

The Scare Crow RisesParticipantBut I would take Sabonis in the top 5
Lets break it down
Simmons and Ingram are definitely 1 and 2, after that it’s a crap shoot, a team like Minnesota needs to find another big man to groom next to KAT, so IMO they’d be smart to take Sabonis over Bender, Rabb, Skal and Brice Johnson, they’d compliment each other well
And let’s be honest here, unless their plan is to Trade Ricky Rubio and draft a PG they wont take another wing(Lavine, Wiggins, Shabazz)

r377ParticipantI like watching Sabonis play. He is an old school, back to the basket, post player. He has a good IQ.
If he was a couple of inches taller he would def go higher in the draft. I think he is too small to play centre in the NBA, I think PF is where he will be.
For a PF he is a good rebounder, is prob slightly above average for speed, good bball IQ and is excellent in the post and around the rim in offense (he does get double and triple teamed at times). I would say he is only an average defender and not a great shot blocker. He does have some shooting touch, which I think he will improve on in that area. I would take him over Brice Johnson and possibly Rabb.
He is used well and focal point at Gonzaga but for him to be successful at the next level really depends on where he goes and how he is developed. 3 point shooting and fancy guards trying to get theirs in the pros may really hinder him. If he goes to some junk team like Kings, Sixers or Nets he could really struggle, but if he goes to a good team, with good coaches and teamwork that will get him touches on offense he could really be good as a pro.
Stretch fours and outside shooting is getting more and more popular in the NBA – he would have been much better off being born 20-30 years earlier….
I know they just drafted Lyles but Utah would be a great spot for him to land. A front court of Favors, Withey and Gobert would be ideal for Sabonis. He would have shot blockers there, plus some good vets to learn from. He would also not be rushed into the rotation and Exum would get him touches on offense.
Denver could also be good for him. International flavour with Nurkic and Jokic at centre. Hopefully in time he would replace Faried as the starting PF in Denver. Not sure how much he would get the ball with Muiday though…..
Toronto may look for a PF. Scola is a good vet with a crafty post game, he would be a good mentor for Sabonis.
I think if Scola and Cody Zeller could have a baby together, it would be something very similar to Sabonis….
