my heart goes out to Harrow and his family. Hope his dad can pull through this. As for his career, it looks to be in limbo

Jeff Goldblum of CBS sports is reporting that Ryan Harrow will be transferring to Georgia State after his father suffered a stroke and is in failing health.

And thus begins the wave of probable departures from this years Kentucky team. I would speculate that Noel, WCS, and Goodwin will be leaving as well (draft) with Poythress sticking around for another season.

It’s an awful thing for his anyone’s family member to be in bad health, but this is probably going to be better for all parties involved. Harrow didn’t have the mental makeup or ability to play point guard at Kentucky. Now he can be closer to his family and not have to endure the stress of trying to be something that he’s not. Good for everyone all around. I hope the NCAA gives him the waiver to play immediately, but I’m not keen on their ability to think things through logically.

Agreed. His off the court issues were a major distraction for Kentucky through most of the season. Hopefully this gives him the opportunity to play in an environment with a much smaller spotlight and allows him to further his education as well. Every UK fan undoubtedly wishes him the best going forward

I agree for the most part and I wish him well. I also hope the NCAA grants him waiver. Mental makeup aside….perhaps Harrow was an overrated prospect. I mean I certainly expected him to be a much better pure PG than Teague, (I remember threads here saying if Teague had returned he would be shifted to SG) but he showed poor IQ and leadership. He can score and penetrate but his PG instincts are much lower than I anticipated.

i would think that the ncaa will give him a hardship waiver to play next year. just to name 1 guy, when elliot williams transferred from duke to memphis he got a waiver to play right away because someone in his family was sick. i believe his grandma or mother. I dont really see how they would make him sit out next year. especially in this day & age

I actually would be a little surprised if they didnt grant him a waiver. NCAA is pretty bad but this should be a no brainer.

I heard someone say that he was transferring to Gonzaga but that might just be speculation.

That move would almost make TOO much sense for Wiltjer. He could treat his transfer yr as red shirt yr. Receive the same training that Olynyk received to improve his athleticism and reshape his body. Come back his junior season as more of a featured guy, as opposed to someone who has to take a back seat to blue chippers who are promised minutes.

Has personally stated there is nothing to the rumor of him transferring to Gonzaga.

That said, I’m almost certain he’s transferring. Poythress too. I’m 90% on Wiltjer and 75% on Poythress. Goodwin, WCS, and Noel are all 100% declaring. My guess is Goodwin won’t hire an agent, but assuming he can get a draft commitment (he will) then you can bet he’s going.

As for Wiltjer to Gonzaga, look at what they did with Olynyk, and he’s almost exactly the same player that WIltjer is. I know, he hasn’t shown as much at UK, but it’s a different system that doesn’t showcase his strengths at all. Expect a HUGE improvement if he goes there.

There have been rumors of Gonzaga, but most people close to the program dismissed that as just a rumor. It wouldn’t really surprise me to see him leave, but to my knowledge no decisions have been made yet.

    Smart Man.

He knew he was going to get benched following this season, so why not transfer somewhere else? With all these new recruits (*cough*Harrison Twins*cough) coming in, he knew his playing time was going to get a serious cut.

The only bad thing about his transfer is that he’ll be playing in a relatively little-known league, the CAA, so this might be the last we see of him in the national spotlight for quite awhile. I hope he figures his game out soon, he might get a late second round look if he improves his game.

I feel bad for GSU’s current guards, RJ Hunter and Devonta White. One of them is going to have their minutes cut.

I had a feeling that Ryan Harrow would leave UK. In fact, I called it in January lol:

That not being the point, I thought Harrow if anything would transfer to a program with more “glamour” but I guess there’s no place like home. I wish Harrow all the best, it’s a shame it didn’t work out for him at UK.

Smart decision, I think he’s accepted that the NBA is not for him which is good because he would just be getting limited minutes next year playing behind the Harrisons anyway.

And for the record, RJ Hunter won’t lose a second of his minutes… Dude is ridiculous. That said Harrow, White, and Hunter will run that conference….. That is, if Harrow is as good as he’s thought to be. Harrow was a 5 star recruit so I’d love to see if he could average 20

I think he should’ve stayed and played that Eric Bledsoe role. But it’s hard going from a starter to a bench player. Before the season even start. Politics in sports smh.

Bledsoe never was a bench player he started at sg next to wall.

You were proballly thinking of Doron Lamb who came back and was 6man last year as a soph, started next to Knight as a fr.

Confidence, Confidence, Confidence is the key for ryan harrow. Coach Calipari put unhealthy pressure on the young man to perform at a high level. When he obviously wasn’t ready for that type of role. Which took away the confidence that ryan needed to develop into the type of pro prospect that he had the potential to become. This dumb one & done nonsense that coach Calipari is trying to force upon his players is bad coaching in my opinion. Because some players are just not ready and need years of development before they can even think about going to the NBA. Hopefully ryan harrow can now become part of a basketball environment where he can just focus on growing, developing, and more importantly just have fun playing basketball.

All the confidence in the world isn’t going to make Ryan Harrow taller or stronger. That’s why he’s not a pro prospect. At least Nate Robinson is stacked. You can’t be less than six foot (he is, don’t care what he’s listed at) AND 150 pounds and be the in the league.

He put the same amount of “unhealthy pressure” on 5 players of the same position before Harrow…….and they ended up fine. Don’t give him a pass. He knew what coach Cal was about before he transferred to Kentucky. He played a season at NC State, had a redshirt season last year. If he needed all this time he should have went somewhere else originally. Shit just didn’t work out…….he will have more time to focus on those things you said at Kentucky…..cause he damn sure wouldnt be playing.

Georgia State is moving to the Sun Belt. That aside, I hope he doesn’t get a waiver, because his fathers stroke was a year ago and everybody knows that’s not why he’s transferring.
