valentineill still take him over rose first of all
with that out of the way this guy is balling for a pg who is only in his second year ever as a pg. he’s helping to lead his team to the playoffs while playing very good defense rebounding the hell out of the ball and dishing out ast which is the best thing you can do as a point guard

whyyouhatingParticipantThe diff between Rose and Westbrook,
Rose 1 option or 2 on a playoff team
Westbrook 2nd or 3red on a playoff teamWestbrook is a beast don’t get me wrong I think he got a chance to be great but give me Rose right now.

The8thDeadlySinParticipantYou said Westbrook is a beast but a 3rd option?? Umm.. Lets look at other third options..
Ray Allen a beast?? No..
Rashard Lewis a beast?? No…
Raymond Felton a beast?? No..
Jason Terry a beast?? No…This guy is a future All-Star and he isnt expected to score alot of points… He is a point guard.. However, he is most defiantly a beast and can be the go to guy if he were on his own team like Rose.. Put Rose on this team with Durant and they wont be any better than they are with Westbrook…

gregoden08ParticipantRose…I think Rose is a better player…I think it’s very close, but I give the nod to Rose.

kurtu17Participanti say the same thing…Rose is the one leading his team and took his team from lottery to playoffs i know its the east but they still gave boston hella problems….his teams number 1 scorer was traded and is still in the play offs…and ppl knock of his distributing game but if he had a bucket getter like durant his assist will be up too…
0- Posted on: Fri, 02/26/2010 - 8:06pm #260777
gregoden08ParticipantNeeds shooters…Nobody on his team can shoot consistently besides Kirk, who is a good point guard in his own right.

BlazermannParticipantlook they put up almost the same amount of numbers i say westbrook puts up better numbers as a bull more points more asts rebs stls plays better d they cant shoot very well they turn the ball over as much as each other my blazer where gonna draft but the thunder got there hands on him

CelticJayhawkParticipantAm I the only person that thinks that Westbrook reminds you of a young J Kidd in terms of his athleticism (yes Kidd was once athletic) and willingness to do whatever it takes for his team to win games? He’s got a great all around game that reminds me of Kidd in a way. He’ll never be as good of a passer as Kidd, but at this stage in his career he’s a better scorer and is leading his team to the playoffs in only his 3rd year. Granted he has guys like Durant and Green to give the ball to, but nights like this (2 boards shy of a triple double) aren’t a fluke. The guys a stud and one of the most explosive, best all-around guards in the game. Not to mention he’s one of the best on ball defenders in the L

LawDeeZeeParticipantI still have to go to D Rose … speculating that a player could carry a team if he were put in the position … and watching a player carry a team are two entirely different things – I like westbrooks game too and he can be a starting guard on a championship team, i just think the difference is Rose could be a Finals MVP for a championship team if he gets his team there
also, people look at this debate so one-sided … people say that if westbrook didn’t have durant he would be able to put up better scoring numbers …….. how about if rose had durant he’d be able to put up better assist numbers?
I’m still taking Rose as my guy if i had to choose

quinceyhodgeswestbrook would be a number one option on the bulls too. and rose would be a number 2 option on the thunder. bulls would be a playoff team with westbrook. i agree without most other people who say its a chris paul or dwill type of debate but i have to go with westbrook. rose scores more (which he has too) but when they both were second options last year werent they scoring about the same?..westbrook is the better defender, rebounder and better at assis. on what team would westbrook be a third option where rose wouldnt also be a third option on that team?
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/27/2010 - 6:16am #260858
armanEvery player in league (except lebron, wade and kobe) would be 2nd option in okc

LawDeeZeeParticipantI don’t think you can equate the two’s scoring ability though when westbrook is averaging about 4 points less per game (which is significant at this point in the season) and shooting around 41% from the field compared to Rose’s 48%
If you put more of the scoring load on a single player, generally their field goal percentages drop, sometimes it’s simply a result of having the ball in their hands more often and having to be the guy creating when the shot clock is running down, game clock is running down, etc
I like westbrooks game too, he’s averaging about 2 more assists per game then Rose, which is also significant 50 something games through the season – I just don’t think russel westbrook could excel as well as rose if that much of the scoring load were dropped on his shoulders
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/27/2010 - 6:34am #260863
quinceyhodgesi feel what youre saying but i have to disagree because westbrook has showed he can be a scorer if he had to be. he passes up shots he could make in order to get it to durant and other players. if he were to drop his assist down about 2 or three and score the points he would be getting from assist his scoring would go up. i would agree if he never showed the ability , consistantly, that he can score when he has to but he has shown that plenty of times

xbadgerhustlerParticipantive thought about this a lot and their respective roles are different… they both bring different strengths to the game. rose if definitely a better pure scorer but i also think that russ can add a lot more POLISH to his game than rose can. rose is a lot more refined (although he has some room to grow too). the guy you’d pick is really dependent on the team you have surrounding the guy. but, if i had to start a team from scratch id probably take rose over westbrook. if i already had a star, i’d probably go with westbrook because he does all the little things.
i think he’s the best sidekick in the game already (RW)

LawDeeZeeParticipantI hear what you’re saying too, I agree Westbrook can score when he has to … I love his game, I’m just skeptical about his ability to handle carrying that scoring load on an every night basis with defenses keying on stopping him
i don’t care what team you throw him on, Westbrook will definately have games here and there that you’ll think he can be one of the best players in the league if he played that way consistantly, but I see Rose successfully handling a bigger role on a night in/night out basis … i have to give him credit for that much when choosing between the two … it’s close though
… if i were drafting and i was 1 pick away with rose and westbrook still on the board, i’d be pretty happy with that, knowing that no matter how the cards fall, i’m going to get a tremendous player
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/27/2010 - 6:59am #260872
quinceyhodgesand westbrook hasnt shown that he can score as much as rose…rose scorers what…4 more point a game?..you put westbrook on the bulls and im pretty sure he would score just as much if not more. i just cant agree that rose is a more defined scorer when he doesnt score much more then westbrook and is the number one option on a team that westbrook would be a number one option also. i understand some are gonna think rose is a better scorer but untill i see proof of that( prob wont happen unless westbrook leaves) then i cant agree with it. alot of people say rose needs a superstar like lebron, wade, bosh and he be the side kick in order for the bulls to take the next step and i agree
for the most part i go with the player who is the better all around player and take in account there position..as a pg i want a pg who can set up his teammates and get assist and secondly be able to score
i do expect rose to score more though since he attempts almost 200 more shots
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/27/2010 - 7:03am #260875
LawDeeZeeParticipant4 more points a game and 7 percentage points higher of a field goal percentage … rose is a better mid range shooter, he’s starting to hurt teams for going under screens, and he’s more explosive attacking the rim
westbrook is explosive, but he doesn’t have defenses keying on him … you don’t go into a game against the thunder saying, we have to stop or slow down russel westbrook – field goal percentage factors into efficiency pretty heavily …. you show me a guy who scores more points a game while also shooting a significantly higher field goal percentage and it’s hard not to say that player is the better scorer
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/27/2010 - 7:08am #260878
quinceyhodgesk rose has that. westbrook has assist, defense, steals, rebounds. may not be by alot but when you have 2 players who are close then the person who does more ( even a lil bit when its so close) then thats who i have to go with
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/27/2010 - 7:11am #260880
quinceyhodgesplus efficiency,double doubles
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/27/2010 - 7:42am #260900
joecheck88Participantits a very tough debate but i think the fact that rose isnt suprising us with his game because everyone expected him to be a beast and the fact that westbrook has basically come out of nowhere(yes he was the 4th pick but at the time it was questioned by many and i dont think anyone expected this much from westbrook this soon) makes it seem like westbrook could be better. i dont think westbrook would be doing as well on the same bulls team as rose. and i think rose would be getting 20 and 8 if he were on okc. but westbrook does bring it much better on d. so in conclusion i think rose is a better individual player but westbrook could be a better championship piece. okc has a brighter future than the bulls as of right now but we all know that could change this summer but even then rose will have to improve on defense.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/27/2010 - 7:57am #260912
quinceyhodgesi just dont see rose getting better assist. his bulls team was better then okc last year but he couldnt rack up the assist he was scoring one more point then westbrook last year when he had ben gordan. take away been and he scored more which was expected. so its not out of the question to say if durant were to leave westbrook would be scoring more just liek rose after his number one option left
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/27/2010 - 7:58am #260913
llperezboth great, it’s closer then i expected between these two. But give me rose.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/27/2010 - 8:54am #260952
dolla130Participantlast season even if u wanted to say the bulls were better then the thunder its hard to rack up assist when ur best player is a chuck and stops the ball or over dribbles (ben gordon) and deng was out noah was not playin the same last yr as this year and forget about the regular season rose’s career really took off after that playoff series against boston i just do think westbrook can rival that performance as the 2nd option rose makes the game easier for his teamates with his scoring and attacking even if he is not racking up assists like durant does for okc sometimes its not about what stat a player gets its about there impact on the game and on floor, if westbrook was on this bulls team he would be steve francis and if u put rose on the thunder it would be like when marbury and kevin garnett were on the t wolves but the difference is durant is the 2nd best scorer in the nba and d rose is way more advanced at this age then marbury was and more athletic
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/27/2010 - 9:10am #260966
quinceyhodgesrose just oisnt the assist type of guy. hes more of a scorer
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/27/2010 - 9:17am #260972
dolla130Participantquinceyhodges
wtf are you watching when u watch basketball rose is a pass first pg its kind hard when your less talented teammates miss all of the time or dribbles to much if deng or hinrich or miller or gibson would shoot higher percentages from the field rose could be easily avg 20ppg and 8 to 9 asst a game
you are probably one of the fantasy basketball geeks who don’t watch the game but watch the stats because it seems to me you have no idea what you are talking about0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/27/2010 - 9:22am #260975
IndianaBasketballParticipantI watch and like both players, but I think Rose is better. If I was building a franchise and needed a point guard to build my team around, I’m choosing Rose every day of the week.
I don’t know if it was his ankle getting healthy or if something just clicked inside of his head, but he’s been unstoppable the last few months. I watched him vs Portland last night and nobody could defend him. Roy tried… Couldn’t. Bayless tried… Couldn’t. Miller tried… Couldn’t. Batum tried… Couldn’t. Camby and Aldridge rotated over to block his shot… Couldn’t. They played under the screen… He made them pay with the mid-range, which is a shot he’s knocking down consistently. He consistently finished above, below, around or through defenders at the rim with dunks or layups. It’s amazing to watch. He also makes the right pass majority of the time. His teammates just need to start making baskets. It’s definitely not Rose’s fault he’s not averaging 8 assists.
He has a unique blend of elite physical gifts that just make him tough to contain. I think the sky is the limit for him. Once he shifts his focus to the defensive end and makes more of an effort to rebound, I think he’ll be just as good as Westbrook in those areas too.

IndianaBasketballParticipantAnother guy saying you don’t know what you’re talking about Quincey… I guess he’s taking it personal, calling you names and player hating too, huh?

llperezpersonally i have nothing against quincey or anyone on this site. But i though it was funny the other day i got into an argument on here and the guy called me quincey like that was some kind of slap in the face.

dolla130Participantits like everytime he posts something it makes no sense …i just sit and laugh half the time because he is one of those guys who thinks he knows what he is talking about when he isnt saying any thing worth posting
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/27/2010 - 9:32am #260981
IndianaBasketballParticipantAnother thing I’ve noticed about Deng and Hinrich is that they put the ball on the floor, especially Deng, after they get the pass from Rose instead of just shooting the ball. That also takes away three or four assists from Rose.
Rose is definitely a pass first point guard who has been thrown into the score first role. I think he had trouble adapting to that at the beginning of the season. I think once he gets a teammate that can take some of the scoring load off of him, we’ll see him defering more. That’s what he prefers to do and everybody knows that… It’s what most people knocked him for on here… Saying he didn’t have what it took to take over games, etc.

quinceyhodgesi respect youre opinon…damn tezo can you get off my nuts just for a second..i mean really i can understand when young gusy do it but arent you a grown man?…anyway you cant put all the blame on roses teammates for why he doesnt get more assits..other teams have guys who drop passes as well. ..you can say if this or if that but we cant go by ifs we can only go by whats going on now. you can say if rose had different guys he would get more assist and maybe its true maybe it isnt but on this team he is and has to be a score first guard in order for them to win…am i wrong about that dolla
as far as fantasy basketball thats a good one..i hate fantasy basketball. ive played basketball on every level (hs college pro) so im far from one of those type geeks as you say

LawDeeZeeParticipantrose is definately a pass first point guard … one of his biggest downfalls sometimes is that he’s not aggressive enough! … not lately, because he’s starting to accept his role of the number one offensive threat … but he deferred way too easily to ben gordon last year – rose is more talented, he’s the best player on the team, i don’t think it benefits them in a win/lose kind of way for him to increase his assists by deferring to players who are less talented, so basically he’s doing what he has to do — really even in college he deferred to everyone else on the team
