valentineI’m watching the Jazz Rockets, and Rudy Gobert is dominating every aspects of the game.
Before half time, and he’s already got 18 rebounds, 14 points and 3 blocks.
This guy is the new modern-day Mutumbo. Unbelievable, even against a pretty weak Houston Frontcourt.

r377ParticipantNote to kids wanting their team to tank and get a high draft pick. Gold can still be found outside of the top 5 picks. Gobert was a 27th pick. Nurkic was a 16th pick. Dieng was a 21st pick.

TRC1991ParticipantDenver initially had Gobert if I remember correctly and traded him…
I don’t think any of us figured he’d become this dynamic of a defender

JoeWolf1I saw him for the first time at the combine, and I knew the guy would be able to block shots. I actually remember saying on this site, that I think he could be the closest thing to a modern day Manute Bol, but I’m blown away by how good of a rebounder, and overall defensive player he is so early into his career. Kid has a hell of a future ahead of him.

Jr. ROXASParticipantThat guy is TOO mobile. 7’2 people should not be able to run that fast and jump that quick and high man seriously. Watching him is such a contrast against watching Hibbert who as a fellow 7’2 person looks like he has his feet nailed to the ground. Jazz have a scaaaary frontcourt now with Favors and Rudy.

HitsterParticipantThe Jazz had numerous high draft picks in recent years but Gobert could turn out to be one of the best. I’d got him around 15th in my mock in 2013 and this site had him late first round so I think we were all surprised that he fell so low.
Even if he had gone mid first round, he is still playing well above that sort of level now. Personally I felt if he had been an NCAA player he would have definitely gone in 12-15 range.
Having often said Whiteside is putting up Mount Mutombo like stats, it’s nice to see Gobert being mentioned in the same stats comparison. Either player will have a very long way to go to compare to Mount Mutombo and every team who drafts a tall raw defensive big always hopes they have found the next Mutombo.
Mutombo is one of my favourite ever defensive player and it’s always amazing to think he made most of his All Star and all NBA teams after the age of 30 and there was always the rumour he might have been older than he actually was.
