I know the upcoming draft is not our present priority but I just wanted to point out that Gobert is vastly underrated by this site as of right now. In fact, while Gobert has impressed the scouts present at Treviso, this site has him going at 47 in 2013 (and yes I checked the mock is "up to date" as it was last modified yesterday) whereas on other similar sites (won’t give the name of it but you surely know it) he is mentioned as going as high as 4.

This said, I know I might shock some of you, but I see some similarities between Gobert and Anthony Davis’ games: they have similar size and a similar frame (Gobert is actually pretty strong for his weight) with very nice athleticism, are both good rebounders and excellent shotblockers and have very high FG% (62.3 for Davis vs. 79.4% for Gobert in the French League). Yet it is obvious that Gobert’s offensive game isn’t (yet?) as refined as Davis’. If you see his stats you won’t see any stratospheric numbers as Gobert plays on one of the densest teams in France, Cholet Basket, which limits his playing time to less than 14 mpg but still has 1.3bpg.

What is your take on Gobert? Do you know him and who would you compare him to? Where do you see him go as of right now?

He’s bigger than davis actually (7.2 in shoes I think)… he could develop into a tyson chandler kind of guy.

I think teams and scouts are scared of this guy because he is an Alex ajinca clone in every way

I was about to make a thread on this! Rudy Gobert looks like a lottery pick. And just because Gobert is a tall lanky center from France doesn’t mean he’s an Ajinca clone. Ajinca is/was soft and was a small forward trapped in a 7-2 body, kind of like a taller Jonathan Bender, but Gobert is pretty tough and patrols the paint really well. If Gobert continues to develop his body and his skills I can see him being like Tyson Chandler in the NBA.

The way he plays is much more similar to Chandler’s game than to Ajinça’s game.

Gobert has been called up to prepare olympics with French NT…
