I haven’t gotten the chance to watch him play, but I saw he leads Iowa State in a lot of major categories. What is a player you would compare him to?

His game is similar to James Johnson. He’s an intriguing prospect due to his combination of size/skill-set/and versatility to play both forward position.

he had a triple double… he has pg court vision and good handles as far as bringing the ball down and spotting open players, create for others, not really an arsenal of dribbling moves or isolation handles but reads open lanes with the ability to draw contact using his strength and decent quick first step, tho not very explosive going at the rim, good rebounder (even offensively), and shaky jumper with an ok stroke

he’s like the igoudala of iowa without the explosiveness and tenacious D (tho i couldn’t tell you how much of a defender he really is)

Oh yeah still bitter about that whole situation. Mess.eee I think has it right on with the James Johnson comparison but I think he has a higher ceiling. He’s a great rebounder and good finisher inside, his outside shot is still shaky but has good athleticism to make up for it. I wouldn’t say he has PG vision.. But he’s definitely a very good passer out of the post.

I heard someone say once Anthony Mason and I am going to have to agree with that.  Their size and skill set is pretty similar.  And river09, I am going to have to agree with you.  I can’t even imagine what we would look like if he and a healthy Mbawke were starting next to each other.

Maybe being forced to transfer has changed him…but when he was in HS and at Minnesota, he was an ultra douchecanoe…

He reminds me of Diaw too, he loves the high post and distributing from there.  His passing is his biggest strength, in my opinion.  He’s a luttle chubby and needs to work on his body, I’d guess he’s around 275.

His outside shot isn’t great either, but he’s a bruiser and his mid range game is pretty solid, so it’s not the end of the world he can’t shoot 3’s very well.  I think he’s a borderline 1st/2nd round type player, 28-38 range…If he comes out.

There are not ten better prospects than Royce White. In this draft where talent, skills, and size are a combination that do not seem to mesh with most of the names, he has it. He is an impossible guard in college, and a tough guard in the NBA. This isn’t some imaginary scouting report skill set that never appears on the college court. This is a guy with legit power forward size and legit guard handles and vision. This isn’t Thomas Robinson getting praised for making a 7-footer. He has a respectable shot. I think that his diagnosis, awareness, and medicine for his social anxiety disorder has  taken away fears from his past. What he has done with so little around him is special, and there is no intelligent reason to think he is a 2nd round talent. None. Don’t just regurgitate the same old nonsense. One scout or analyst being dumb doesn’t make it true.

I guess I’m just not as high on him as you are.  I’ve seen him play a handfull of times, including when he went off for 18 and 17 vs Kansas.  There is a lot to like about his game, but being overweight and having a history of attitude issues will scare NBA teams.

He’s kept it under wraps this season, but even in the first game vs Kansas he threw a fit and pouted on the bench.  28-38 is probably where he’d land this season.  He’s probably better than the 28-39th prospect.  I’ll give you that, I don’t think Patrick Young is a better player, but look at players who’ve dealth with weight and or attitude problems and their stock drops. I also don’t think his jumper is very good.  He reminds me of John Henson, from the standpoint his J looks pretty solid out to 10 feet, but he can’t hit free throws or play the pick and pop.  White is very nice on the roll because of his strength and passing ability. though.

Right or wrong, that’s how it is.  Cousins went after Evan Turner and Derrick Favors, White’s weight and past attitude (whether he’s fixed it or not) are going to make teams nervous taking him too high.

His shot is much better when off the ball in terms of catching and shooting than shooting off the dribble, but then again the number of guys his size who are ball dominant pseudo-points are basically him and maybe using the loosest definition Draymond Green. As the season has gone on and teams have adjusted their defense to try to slow him, he has been taking more jumpers in the flow of the offense.

The thing with White is that you cannot guard him with someone who can’t move his feet. He will blow right past him. If you put someone smaller on him, he goes to the block and initiates the offense from there. The college answer is to play zone and make him just a passer and hope the rest of the Cyclones miss. Let’s be honest, Arizona gameplanned for Florida to try to make Patric Young beat them. Meyers Leonard is so talented he got his college coach fired because the guy almost broke down bemoaning how soft he and his teammates are. Fab Melo, in addition to never leaving the paint defensively, was arrested last summer and still is not in as good of shape as White. This draft is nowhere near deep enough to justify White dropping that far.
