Iowa State, Forward – Royce White

Anyone seen this guy?  He looks pretty impressive to me.  Not much of a shooter, which hurts him at 6’7".  But he’s got decent length, a very strong frame (like 260lbs or something) and amazing handles/agility in the open court for a guy that size.  Great passer.  Turns it over some.

He transfered from Minnesota so he’s actually a bit old for a guy playing in his first season.  But watching him, I’m surprised he’s not getting some draft buzz this year or in 2013 mocks.

Anyone know the story on this guy?

But he has finally shown what he can do this season for Iowa State and has average 13 and 9 for the year. I just remember he had some issues at Minnesota, that included allegations of shop lifting at Mall of America and laptop theft. He was suspended for his freshman season and than eventually I believe he was dismissed from the Minnesota team.

Fred Hoiberg seems to have been a solid coach for him and the fact that he landed a couple of Big 10 transfers in White and Chris Allen (Michigan State) has definitely helped Iowa State become a more competitive squad. He is a good passer and definitely has some bulk to bang down low.

He was a very highly regarded HS prospect as well. Size is a possible issue for him and of course his past will probably be of interest to some as well. He had a solid game today against a big guy in Thomas Robinson, but I have a feeling Royce could use at least another year before being considered a viable first round guy, like many considered him to be coming into Minnesota.

hes awesome really strong, but is undersized he will have to play the four in the league.  He comes with a lot of baggage. in high school he got kicked out of school for yelling at a teacher after quitting.  Then at the U he got kicked out for shoplifting jeans and then stealing laptops.  He seems to have cleaned up his act though and hopefully learned from his mistakes.

What’s with all the unnecessary negging?

    u mad?

Kinda crazy how White, Colton Iverson (A.I.’s brother), and Ralph Sampson III all failed to pan out for Tubby Smith.

As a Minnesota native. I dislike Royce White. No comment.

While at Minnesota, this guy has been the most unlucky coach in the nation.

Royce White is an immature kid who felt the need to shop lift clothes and push a security guard from the mall of america when he was a year away from being a millionaire. Now i am by no means a clothes expert, but i would assume he could have waited a year and been able to afford those if he couldnt already.

"Tubby Smith While at Minnesota, this guy has been the most unlucky coach in the nation."

    This is 100% Fact

Off the top of my head i can think of:

PG Al Nolen missing half a season because of grades

Mbawke having to sit out 2 years because of a rape claim. He had an alibi to

Royce White law issues and transfer

    Devoe Joeseph Transfer

Al Nolen breaking foot and missing almost the whole season last year (Nationally ranked at the time)

and now this year Mbawke tears ACL

Hav you seen the going rate for Buckle Jeans these days??? no wonder he tried stealing em. Though if he had just gone to Old Navy or Kohls, he couldve gotten some styling Jeans for probably 20 bucks.

Anyways, the kids got big time talent. He handles the ball well, hes athletic (though I think he should slim down and gain more explosiveness back), and he’s strong. He does not shoot the ball very well though. In his defense, he’s never really needed to because hes been such a dominant physical presence since his 9th grade season, then playing alongside 4 other Division 1 players in his senior year.

I don’t know much about his NBA potential, but as a Gopher fan and a Minnesotan who graduated the same year and competed against Royce, I really wish he was in Maroon and Gold right now. I think that if he and Mbakwe couldve both played the year they were both here, the Gophers could have been an Elite 8 team, rather than a first round loss to Xavier.

Tubby definitly hasnt been lucky, but he really doesnt help his cause a great deal with the lack of recruiting. He hasnt been able to keep the top players in Minnesota in state, and he’s really struggled to find blue chip prospects outside of the state as well.

For what he has to work with, Tubby Smith has shown he’s a good coach. He got his guys to beat Indiana so that’s gotta say something about him. I was really excited for the Gophers this year because they seemed to be putting things together. Mbakwe would be a stud (torn ACL), Andre Hollins the freshman starting PG (never played well), and Sampson was gonna show some promise (he’s a SF in a center’s body). All in all… Maybe next year

Yeah, he’s got talent. But he’s also a total jerk. He got caught shoplifting at the Mall of America, and punched a security guard. Then, I think he got caught stealing laptops or something. Whoever takes him on needs to know they guy’s a total nutcase.

I knew there was something wrong with him since he has two years of ‘Did not play or collect any stats’ on his career numbers…that can’t be good.  But, I knew just asking would get me the best info versus googling year old articles about a guy who is playing for an also ran in the dwindling Big—however many teams they have left.

Thanks guys.  Have to admit.  If he keeps his nose clean I’m still intrigued.

Royce White is like Michael Beasley’s younger brother only he likes to steal things.  He was busted at the Mall of America for shop lifting and and refusing to let the "rent a cop" arrest him and later was accused of taking a lap top from another dorm room.  He left Minnesota even though Tubby Smith indicated that he wanted him to stay.

I dont codone anything that a kid does that’s wrong, but to call a 16-22 yr old a nut case is wrong in so many ways, alot of people make mistakes when growing up, but in no way are you a nut case for stealing some jeans and shoving a security guard, nutcases are people who commit tons of murders, are in mental hospitals in straight jackets, because they are threats to society, this guy isn’t give him a break.

Caron Butler is a perfect example of being a young teen and making a mistake in case you didn’t know Caron Butler had been arrested 15 times all before he turned 15(Coincedence?) And sentenced a year in jail for firearms and cocaine possesion(Alot worse than stealing some jeans and a laptop).

And you haven’t really heard anything about Butler being a nut case in the NBA.

    People change.

White is a strong big guy with a nice shooting touch, but not a lot of range.  His ability to pass out of the post is at a very high level for a college guy, but he’s not very athletic and has issues shooting over taller more athletic players.  Even more concerning is that taller guys tend to have no issue shooting over him.  He isn’t very fast but the dude is smart and sets a hell of a screen.

He’s a smart intagables type player, but even this year he’s show flashes of immaturity.  I think he’s a 2nd round prospect, but he doesn’t excite me and I think 275 lbs is a more accurate weight than 260.

My comparison, a poor man’s Boris Diaw.

That is absolutely insane (15 arrests before 15).

Pac-Man Jones couldn’t get arrested 15 times OVER THE COURSE OF HIS LIFE even if he tried.

^ I think your underrating Pac-Man. If he really dedicated himself and worked at it, I could see him getting 15.

Just caught a little bit of Iowa State/Okie State.

Royce Dubs is legit. Too legit to quit. He’s 6’8, strong, and aggresive with very impressive playmaking abilities for a post player.

Strong court vision and decision-making. Future 1st rounder no doubt.

He’s an articulate and thoughtful fellow.

Look up his videos on Youtube.

His handles really are amazing for a guy his size. And he’s got bounce too.

If he improves his shooting I think he can be a lottery pick.

He’s a playmaking version of Paul Millsap.
