TarHeelRavenParticipantWas he out of line? Here is my thought process on this one. Think about the top college basketball programs and their arenas around the nation. Rupp, Cameron, Phog, Dean Dome. Of those four, who has the worst home court advantage? Dean Dome and it’s not even close. Carolina has a true home court advantage in one game out of the entire year……when Duke comes to town. Much has been made about the seating at Carolina where he students are seated behind one basket and that’s it. The premium seats are given to the rich alum who sit on their hands the entire game. it basically comes down to money with Carolina. They get a lot of money from their alum and in return they are given courtside seats. I’m still fairly young at 33 and believe college basketball is for the students, not the rich alumni who come to sit on their butts the entire game. I will give Roy a pass on this one. He has been through an emotional week with the passing of Dean Smith and a tough loss to Duke at Cameron. I think he’s frustrated with the inconsistency of his team also. I think Roy should be mad about his lack of home court advantage, At Kansas, he had one of the best in the country. I don’t know if his rant will make the UNC administration change the seating in the Dean Dome, but I completely understand where he is coming from.

Huh, has it ever been anything other than this? I’m 23 years old, live 5 minutes away from Gampal Pavilion in UConn connecticut, and have only seen the Husky’s play twice in 13 years. Going to see the team play, let alone a good team/ranked team, cost me up to 75$. $100 just to see SMU play! Sports in general is getting a little ridiculous. My boys and I are trying to see the Celtics play the Magic in a month, and it’s almost 40$ a piece for the damn nose bleed seats.
Someone has to pay Roy’s salary, so you can’t blame that on the fans

rickybobbyParticipantI agree with Roy on this one. Crowd is almost always lackluster besides the Duke game or another high ranked opponent. The younger fans/ students definetely need to be placed around the court and move the older fans back some. There’s a reason Duke is always tough to beat at Cameroon, not only are they usually talented but the crowd and atmosphere helps makes them better, and gets into the opponents head.
I also think Roy only mentioned this because he was frustasted. Dean Smith dies earlier in the week, team gets hammered at Pitt, then teams play a great game at Duke infront of a great crowd like always, and gives it away at the end. And then the team plays it first home game since Dean’s death and they were playing their basketball of the season, and the place seemed dead. I could literally here Roy yelling at some of his players through the tv so i can only imagine how it sounded there. I would be pretty upset if i was him too.

theballerwayParticipantNeeds to call out himself.. He recruits well but the players don’t fit. Hes not even getting the most of the players he has. I respect his pedigree but boy then you add in the Academic scandals and no recent championchips or deep runs in the tournament. He imo is an underachiever, they have contended since Henson etc
