Rookie-Sophmore game Players announced
Glad to see my boy ET in this game
ROOKIES: Kyrie Irving (Cavaliers), Derrick Williams (Timberwolves), Tristan Thompson (Cavaliers), Ricky Rubio (Timberwolves), Brandon Knight (Pistons), Kemba Walker (Bobcats), Markieff Morris (Suns), Kawhi Leonard (Spurs), Marshon Brooks (Nets).
SOPHOMORES: Blake Griffin (Clippers), John Wall (Wizards), Evan Turner (76ers), DeMarcus Cousins (Kings), Greg Monroe (Pistons), Gordon Hayward (Jazz), Paul George (Pacers), Landry Fields (Knicks), Tiago Splitter (Spurs).
Good to see Evan Turner on that soph team.
I literally clicked on here thinking they better have ET on the team this year or I'm going Ape Sh!t all over blogs. Both lineups look right. I notice Favors and Wes Johnson didn't make the team.
I was kind of hoping Pek would be on the sophomore team, but I can not really justify taking any of those players off the team for him, especially with his limited body of work.
i bet you the players under the list of.. playing in the all-star game, rook/soph game, and participating in the dunk contest the same week only includes HOFers
I wanna see Irving Go at john walls head lol athleticism vs skill
Dang, no Iman Shumpert???
Happy to see Gordon Hayward on the sophomore team. I had my doubts about him when he was drafted, but I am glad to say that he has proved me wrong. Didn't start out the season too well but over the past 7 games he has really turned it on with averages of 14ppg, 3.3 boards, 2.7 assists, 0.7 blocks, while shooting 49% (4.7/10) from the field. He hasn't made too many 3's while doing it (only 5 out of 18), but he's not being trigger happy like CJ Miles tends to be; instead he's producing in other areas even when his shot isn't on.
Jazz future looks bright with Favors, Kanter, Hayward, and Burks. Can't wait to see which point guard they draft this year. (its looking like that Warriors pick is going to the Jazz!) Marshall looks like a strong candidate, unless Kabongo surprises us all by coming out this year instead of staying at Texas which is what he should do. Also be on the lookout for Scott Machado, if he does well in the tourney his stock could skyrocket. (Right now he should be considered as a late first rounder, but if he does well in the tourney he could go in the late lottery!)
Both have been real solid off the bench.. I can somewhat understand Favors, since Monroe and Cousins are def putting up bigger numbers, but Kanter would kill the other bigs in his class. Shame Burks hasn't seen enough PT to even be considered.
Given the format, I honestly would've rather Shaq and Chuck choose whatever players they wanted out of the two classes, not the ones the NBA deems worthy/ most marketable.
Marshon Brooks > Iman Shumpert.
Shumpert would of been fun to watch in this game, maybe they were afraid of him hot doggin like Westbrook did a few years ago.
Really glad to see Iman Shumpert not on that list. No way he deserves to be in this game with the way he's been playing.
G Money got A LOT of hate on this site... His biggest hater was Sheltwon, who said he shouldn't have even been a first round pick.
You can argue that the Jazz reached for him, but I still think he'll grow into a very good NBA player who'll play a long time.
I was at the Pacers game last night and he's getting a lot better as a player.
I'm suprised Ed Davis didn't make it again, yet another snub.
Tristan Thompson? Has he done a lot this year?
There are two guys I'm disappointed didn't make it.........Favors and Vucevic......Favors has done well in limited minutes and I think Vucevic has done a great job backing up the C position the Sixers.....I know its an All-Star game and fans want more entertainment and speed that comes form guards and slashers.....but I think these two earned it.
Also, I don't think Tristan Thompson warranted a selection.
And for those saying Shumpert should be in the game I think he has hit a rookie wall of sorts (As well as Lin taking off) and he is really a horribly selfish player.......I don't enjoy watching him play.
Thompson and Vucevic is a toss up. Vucevic really deserves to be on the team but I can understand Thompson being selected. And Thompson has been hurt and hasn't been able to play much this year but he's been solid when he's gotten the chance to play. He's putting up 7ppg, 5 rpg, and 1bpg in only 17 mpg.
If he's healthy Thompson should have a very good game he thrives in these type of setting.
2 other people I would of loved to see in this game if Biyombo and Faried. Both of these guys are freak athletes who are energy hustle players who would of put on a show.
I'm quite disappointed that Favors didnt make it. He would be a better fit to this kind a game that Splitter is for sure. I like what Splitter is doing this year but I would rather see Favors
Jon Lauer could've been in talks to make that rookie team had he got more minutes on the court this season. Had a few good statlines in some games.
I'm surprised Jimmer didnt make it,i know he's been inconsistent, but so has Tristian Thompson...
There's too much depth at Jimmer's position and not much depth at Tristan's position thus he gets the nod over Jimmer.
Come on, no Jeremy Lin? Having him in it would have been great. I was really surprised Tiago Splitter got the nod over Favors.
And since they're mixing the Rooks and Sophs, maybe there'll be a spot open cause Marshon Brooks has a broken toe, doesn't look like he'll be ready by the All-Star break.
Is it too late to put Jeremy Lin on the sophs? He's been thriving as of late and I don't think he'll regress back to his subpar stats. He should be able to maintain at least a 16 points and 5 assists average. But as of right now, he's playing at an all star level leading his team to 3 straight wins. I think he should really be put on the sophomore team.
ha I dont think anyone would complain if you put him on the team, but you cant really do that for 4 games of good play, even though he has been awesome. Its just been 4 games
I don't see why they would put Splitter over Favors. They have similar stats with Splitter having an edge at FG%, but I feel Splitter isn't even a real "rookie-sophomore" player because he's 27 and been playing professional basketball in a different country and now here for awhile. Favors is only 20 and was the 4th pick, you gotta choose him in an event like this over Splitter when it's been this close.
Marshon brooks has a broken toe? Shame, Alec Burks has a broken minutes per game.
Norris Cole should play this game, he is better than Knight and Kemba
I'm okay with both lineups. I don't think there are any clear cut snubs, to be honest. I gotta hope for Blake Griffin opting not to play and just playing in the All-Star game so that Jeremy Lin can get in, lol. I can't help but love the guy, no homo.
This year it won't be Rookies vs Sophmores. they are doing it like NHL, where two coaches (SHAQ and Charles Barkley) pick players one by one. Playground way. I'm not a fan of this, but mostly cause I don't like change. When this first started, it was all Rookies both teams. East vs West. Then changed to Rookies vs Sophmores now a mixture of everyone within their first two years. Who knows maybe next year they can do Rookies vs NBDL All Stars. Any thoughts on the change?
I know hes not getting alot of minutes but id love to watch him throw down some carzy dunks! he should be in the dunk contest too
