bobbybParticipantI think one of them should be cut. This Lithuania team is similar to what the usa is gonna see throughout the tourney. Clearly Gordon, Curry, and Westbrook are better suited for this comp. Rose/ Rondo only score 2 points a piece, rondo i believe had 4 turnovers.

Winning_TimeParticipantI would cut Rose becuase the other guards are less similar to Rondo.

llperezi am not saying rose or rondo should be cut, but it is interesting how certain gaurds on the team have seemingly be given spots by the fans without question. i have not seen anything from rose or rondo that has seperated them from guys like gordon or westbrook.

joecheck88Participantrose has superstar ability that rondo, gordon, westbrook and curry dont have. meaning he can get his whenever he wants, im thinking it needs to come between rondo, curry, and westbrook. the thing that hurts westbrook and rondo is their shooting. it will most likely come down to the last day because all the guards are so good. rose has a better jumper than westbrook and rondo and is a better playmaker than westbrook. its a tough decision, no doubt about that. any chance they cut kevin love and go with a smaller more athletic group with chandler and odom as centers and gay and granger as 4s. i think its a possibility.

IndianaBasketballParticipantThat last cut is going to be rough…
All I know is that it shouldn’t be Eric Gordon. I don’t even know why people keep saying he’s on the bubble. He’s been arguably the most consistent guard. 3rd on the team in scoring. 1st in 3-PT makes. And other than Westbrook, he’s been the team’s best defender.
Gordon has been better than Billups.

SteroidParticipantRondo is the best playmaker on the team, and he knows how to play with a bunch of scorers, so I don’t know why he would get cut. Rondo won’t be a perimeter scorer, but he will get the ball to others and he’ll take the less athletic competition off the dribble. Rose is their best slasher at the guard position. I don’t see either of them getting cut.

anthony8Participanti think kevin love will be cut, in international game lots of time you see small lineups just like collgege , so i believe Coach K will cut Love because with Odom hes got a pretty good backup for Chandler at Center, And rose, westbrook , gordon, and curry all bring him elements he can use.
PLUS: Kevin love has been battling injuries so why take the risk and keep him for the final spot.

IndianaBasketballParticipantRondo, Billups, Rose, Gordon, Westbrook and Curry.
I can’t see the US keeping six guards.
I can’t see them cutting Love. The US team already lacks size. What if Chandler/Odom get into foul trouble?

joecheck88Participantexactly, my point was that cutting any of the guards would be difficult. rondo could play the role j kidd did a few years ago, curry is a great shooter and good passer, westbrook has been a beast defensively, rose is the best of all of them getting his offense, gordon has been a great shooter/finisher/defender, and billups is a veteran that can come up big and make big plays. cutting any of them would be tough. ill say kevin love should get cut. chandler and odom is very good as a center combo(for fiba) and durant, granger, and gay can play power forward and small forward.

IndianaBasketballParticipantOut of Durant, Granger and Gay, Gay was the only player who looked like he could be effective (strength wise) playing the four yesterday.
Durant isn’t strong enough and is bothered by the physical play. I think Granger can be effective playing the four, but he just didn’t play well yesterday.

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantI would cut Billups and let Rondo be the leading point guard. Maybe cut Billups and Rose to get another big man because all they have is Chandler, Odom and Love if I’m correct. I think team USA won’t play like that again but if they did, teams like Brazil, Spain and Argentina wouldn’t falter.
It’s too late now but I think Curry will be getting cut.

SwatLakeCityParticipantI don’t think either should be cut. Rose is an allstar, enough said. This team does not have much allstars. (Only Kevin Durant and Rudy Gay are allstars to me other than Rose of course) The more allstar we have the better. The whole USA team did not play too well. Chandler had no points and five rebounds, while Durant was 0-4 from 3 point range. Gay led all scorers with just 14. So the entire team struggled not just Rose.
Rondo plays very good defense as does Westbrook and Billups. There are always those games when Rondo just doesn’t play too well. Even in Boston he has those games, but any defense we get from him or anybody is nice to have.
I think the person that should not make the final cut is Stephen Curry. He is nice to have, but this team has a ton of point guards, so one of them will have to be cut. Eric Gordon is also a possible cut, but I think he will make it because of his shooting.0 - Posted on: Sun, 08/22/2010 - 7:44am #382412

IF we’ve learned anything from International ball, it’s that being an All-Star in the NBA doesn’t matter.

bobbybParticipantPlayed a modified zone, wait till some teams just pack it in and you will see alll that playmaking abilty dissapear. If you think Billups is struggling from the field, wait till Rondo / Rose have to make shots. This isnt the NBA , Being and All Star means nothing. Wait till they send them to the foul line, remember there are no clear path violations. USA dodged a bullet yesterday when Lith. got hit with the Tech.

IndianaBasketballParticipantWhich is why I think keeping Gordon/Curry is a must. No point to keep three guards who can’t shoot all that well in Rondo, Westbrook and Rose (who’s a good mid-range shooter, but still not a great shooter).

SwatLakeCityParticipantAllstars always matter. Just look at the dream teams we have had. ’62, Jerry West, Chamberlain and then ’92, John Stockton, Karl Malone, MJ, Scottie Pippen, Kareem, Kobe, need I go on? And then most recently the 2008 olympic team, Lebron, Dwade, Dwill, Boozer, Bosh, Amare. They all had a bunch of allstars and just dominated, clearly deserved the title. This year should be no different. We need all the allstars we can get, especially since we are extremely short on big men or true centers for that matter. Just cut both Curry and Gordon, and let Brooke Lopez come back. I don’t like seeing Odom play Center. It should be Chandler and Lopez.

IndianaBasketballParticipantWhat happened in 2004 when we sent:
Tim Duncan, Emeka Okafor, Carmelo Anthony, Carlos Boozer, Richard Jefferson, Shawn Marion, Lamar Odom, Amar’e Stoudemire, LeBron James, Allen Iverson, Stephon Marbury and Dwyane Wade?
It’s not just about being an All-Star. It’s about putting a TEAM together. Players that can develop chemistry, play a team game, etc. The rest of the world has caught up. We can’t expect to just put together a team full of All-Stars and expect to win Gold.

sc0rebuckets11Participantpeople are talking about “superstars, all-stars”
who cares? none of that stuff matters in international play.
honestly, i dont think derrick rose is as good of a fit as everyone said he was or thought.
his defense isn’t really there, nor his playmaking (which are the most important, maybe behind 3 pt shooting) and we all know 3 pt shooting is a weakness.
rose is shooting 35% (7-20) from the field, 33% (1-3) from 3 & he’s leading the team in TO’s .
