The8thDeadlySinParticipantIt looks like both players are going to have terrific years. Rondo could be an MVP candidate if his team is successful and Irving could lead the Cavs to the playoffs years sooner than anyone expected.
Who is going to have a better year??

220ParticipantIf you’re talking statistically then probably Rondo overall. Irving scores better, but Rondo is a great rebounder, he gets a lot of steals, and gets a lot of assists.

omphalosParticipantRondo is going to have a better year, hands down. It’s a little insulting you’d even compare the two really, but people are forever sleeping on Rajon.

akhan786ParticipantYou seem to not understand that both are elite PG’s and no one is sleeping Rondo.
Rondo is imo a top 3 PG in the league and is still better a better point guard than Kyrie but Kyrie is catching up fast. Rondo is leaps and bounds ahead of Kyrie defensively and is really only the weakness in Kyrie’s game.
Some could say that Kyrie is a bad "PG" because he doesn’t get as many assists but assists aren’t an accurate representation of whether a player is a good PG or not. Imo whether the offense runs smoothly or not is the barometer of a good PG. When the Cavs’ offense is in Kyrie’s hands their offense is a thing of beauty especially with Varejao down low. Kyrie will never average more than 8apg because he’s a score first guard, but that necessarily isn’t a bad thing. As long as he’s not being selfish and the offense runs smoothly, he’s doing his job as a PG.
The thing that Kyrie has a leg up on Rondo is that Kyrie is a transcendent offensive talent. The kid can literally score from anywhere on the court. Layups, jumpshot, post game he has it all.
But still Kyrie needs to shore up his defense to be known as a Top 5 PG in the league because last year he was at a Steve Nash level of defensive ability. It’ll be interesting to see if he improves upon that this season.

druneave3ParticipantIrving>Rondo easy and I love Rondo

BostonkingsParticipantRondo by a lightyear, the only thing Irving does better is shoot. Rondo is a better passer, rebounder, defender, floor general. Rondo can score if he wants to, the only thing he’s missing is a consistent jumper, and even that looks better than it did in previous years. So Rondo >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Kyrie

benjo34Irving is a good Pg and he’s going to be only better but right now Rondo is the best Pg in the league

The8thDeadlySinParticipantI really like Rondo.. But, I like Irving too.. Rondo is the only PG in the league that is a consistant threat to get a triple double. That means he plays every part of the game well. Also, he is an amazing defender. Irving on the other hand is almost unguardable when he goes to get his own shot.
I like Rondo to have the better year beause he is going to have to score more and provide everything he has been doing for years. I could see Rondo ending the year averageing 18 points, 11 assist, and 6 rebounds a game.. Add in his almost 2 steals a game and Rondo may be the 3rd candidate, behind Lebron and Durnat, for MVP..

jeff416ParticipantIrving is a better scorer, but Rondo is easily the better player right now. He just does so many things well. Even though his jump shot still sucks, he is a great defender, passer, rebounder, etc.
Irving will probably average more ppg and have a better 3pt and free throw percentage, but Rondo will likely have the edge in every other statistical category

3–6 mafiarondo right now without any doubts. if i had a champion caliber team i want rondo running my offense.
with that said, kyrie in two/ three years…
edit: thinking about it, i might be wrong… who would you rather have on the heat as a PG?, im thinking kyrie even right now, that’s a special case though
