RipDeuceParticipantThe Rockets, who will have to live without the services of Yao Ming for the foreseeable future, are said to be interested in trading for Chris Bosh this summer, or signing him next year after he becomes a free agent. Bosh is from Texas and could fill the void left by Yao’s latest foot injury, which could end his career. Instead of having three all-stars this season, the Rockets may have none. Ron Artest is a free agent and the Rockets aren’t prepared to match his asking price, Tracy McGrady has one year left on his deal and the Rockets are actively trying to lose him, while Yao’s career could be over.

Rubio is a beastParticipantEven though Im not at all a fan of the Rockets, but I hope he comes through and is able to play. Right now, I would rather have Yao come back next season than Rubio play for the Timberwolves this season. The loss of Yao is a loss for the NBA, and every fan of the game. My prayers go out to Yao, his family, his friends, his orginization, and his fans.

Scott42444ParticipantNot to be ignorant here, but what is Yao’s diagnosis long-term? I also really like Yao. He does everything right and could retire as one of if not the best free throw shooting center in the league. Unlike quite a few injury prone stars, I don’t think that conditioning has ANYTHING to do with his troubles. When you’re 7’5” and up your body doesn’t enjoy the 82-game (plus preseason, playoffs, and international play) grind of being in the NBA. Plus, he has the largest country in the world watching his every breath. I think he’s not only come off as cool, calm, and collected but I actually think that he’s popular with people a Chinese National might not otherwise be friends with. Ron Artest is a good example. That is one of the major components to sports, going back to the original Olympics, that makes me love them so much. People of all races, genders, colors and creeds can cheer for each other and/or a common goal (especially during some of our darker days in the past when it seemed we might not have anything to cheer together on). I know that this is a little off topic, but I remember hearing someone (maybe it was the Jackie Robinson movie) say that Jackie Robinson couldn’t just be good he had to be great. In all aspects, not just on the field. Yao is that kind of guy and is great for the game. I would love to see him win a championship and I am not even remotely close to a Rockets fan. It would just be good for so many reasons.
What if Yao IS able to keep it together for the end of 2009-2010 and the playoffs? If they added Bosh and resigned Artest, they would have a ridiculous post presence and toughness. It would be fun to watch. Hell, since I’m dreaming, what if T-Mac also got healthy and Brooks gets even better (assuming Scola and Battier are traded for Bosh) they would be a Top 5 team as far as talent goes in the league. If the Bulls don’t get Bosh, this would be a great alternative in this Bulls fan’s eyes!
But, like I said, what is Yao’s longterm status as far as health?

SmooveKRYPTParticipantYeah any trade for Bosh is gonna include Scola and Battier, and Cook as a throw in for $, even though they’ll probably still need another contract to reach Bosh’s salary, maybe Brent Barry(both Cook & Barry expire after the season)…no way they include Brooks because Toronto has no use for him, Calderon is their guy, and Brooks isn’t coming off anybody’s bench!!!
Bosh would be a great fit for Houston if Yao does miss this season, or longer…I think if they can get him, and Artest will re-sign they’ll still be a playoff team!!!

ckowalskiParticipantI think trading battier and scola for bosh is not a great idea. doing this leaves a potential starting lineup of yao (assuming healthy), bosh, artest (assuming resigned), tmac (assuming healthy), and brooks. All 5 of these guys really look to score first. I think they would be like the pheonix suns of a few years ago, very run and gun and not too much d, which seems like a contradiction from everything they have done the past few years and adelmans way of coaching in general, i know. Not to say that bosh isnt a great player and would be an upgrade over scola but there just isnt any balance in their lineup. Battier and Scola are 2 players who are not focused on scoring as much and trading battier means losing your best lockdown defender and you have to put artest on the opposing teams best wing player. i mean, this isnt a terrible option but artest is pretty emotional and with battier gone there is no one there to pull him aside and say hey relax. scola plays tough, physical defense and can body up a bigger PF, which bosh cannot do. Not to mention the state this leaves the rockets bench in. Hayes, Wafer, Barry, Lowry, White, Landry and Cook isnt the best looking bench out there, not to mention pitfully undersized.
All in all i think houston just needs to sign a good backup center and just see how yao develops. right now he is supposed to miss most of next season and the injury could be career threatening.
Also, i still dont think those salaries match up, houston would have to add more players, probably landry at least which means you are cutting into their depth even more and making them thinner in the frontcourt than they already are. And somehow I cant see toronto making this trade, it would force bargnani to play more center minutes and he would get destroyed in the east.

fastdanParticipantToronto isn’t stupid. They arn’t going to trade a franchise quality player for garbage, even if there is a pretty big chance they’ll lose him in 2010. I’m sure they’ll be able to land some young talent or draft picks, not a slew of bench players.
